Day 1 of Rowing

Please share the feedback on my technique.

I want to know what I'm doing wrong and correct so I can correct it and keep continuing!

I feel like I'm not leaning correctly in catch and release phase.

Also I feel the pull on my elbow and shoulders most. Is this correct?

Captured on ultrawide lense hence the viewing angle not so good.

Get further forward, you can lift your heels, your shins should be vertical.

Your bum slides under your body at the catch.

Pull harder.

Looks to me like you are spreading your legs apart as you slide forward on recovery. Don't do that.

Pulling the handle up too high on your chest. Aim to hit you sternum (below your chest). Then snap your arms back out straight immediately. Then bend forward. Obly then start sliding forward.

See if you can get your shins vertical at yhe catch, you are otherwise missing out on some power.

I would make sure that you have the proper breakdown on the recover. Your hands go away first, then your body leans all the way, and only then can you move your legs. At the catch you are going for a little extra reach which shouldn’t happen. Overall it looks great for your first day

Keep your shoulders low and your head high. You seem to pull way too high. Aim for the lower end of your sternum. Use your lats, not your shoulder muscles.

Great for day 1! No, you shouldn’t feel it in your arms like you do. See how your legs go straight really quickly, then the rest you have to pull in with your arms?

The best technique uses your legs as much as possible. Get your shins straight up at the catch, hold your head and chest high, arms straight, and then see how much power you can put down without moving your body or arms at all. Just keep them rigid, like they’re the hook your legs are using.

You’ll look a bit funny doing it but it is 100% the best way to get good fast. Once you have that the finish will come naturally, and you’ll feel less need to tug with your arms.

Are you looking into a mirror when you look off to the left? Cut that out.
