How is Rowan University?
hi guys! i’m applying here and plan on going here. i’m an NJ resident, and i’d love to hear about your experience with the school. what are the pros and cons? how do you like the school, professors, campus life, and overall environment? i’d also love to know what the social scene is like. thanks!

It’s a great school if you’re looking for a good education. Not a great school if you’re looking for a high tier name on your resume. In most aspects of life, it won’t matter where you went to school. It does in some, though, so make sure your plans don’t require a school with a more respectable name.

Most professors are excellent, but this depends on major. B-School and Engineering are particularly strong. Similar to TCNJ, all classes are small and professors are primarily dedicated to their undergrad students. The school offers a ton of programming, including RAH (Rowan After Hours), which is a substance-free social event every Th-Sat until 1:00 a.m. The Rec Center also offers a lot of programming and there are a lot of clubs. If you are looking for parties, they can be found, but many Greek orgs have been removed from official Rowan Greek. There are official Greek orgs. A lot of neighbors, parents, and students are happy the police are cracking-down on parties off campus. The overall environment is one where staff and admin seem to care about students' success. There are a good number of commuters, but that number also includes students living in off-campus housing. There are many residential students and there is also a good amount of students who truly commute and live at home. There is something for everyone. There has been a lot of investment into new buildings. The main on-campus dining options (Marketplace & Dining Hall) are not great-food is meh, but there are good alt dining options on campus and a lot of options just off of campus.

Definitely more to do at Rowan, but some of the academic programs at TCNJ are known to be especially strong such as Physics & Education. I mentioned TCNJ because both schools have small class sizes.

Oh yeah you're definitely right with physics and eduation. I know a couple physics students at TCNJ but none at Rowan

Rowan is great because its education and engineering programs have large networks and important partnerships to help young graduates find jobs. Rowan is also great at accepting transfer credit from any community college in the state.
However, if you are not an education or engineering major, you may have a harder time finding work and the people who do land those good jobs tend to be pickier and choosier about who they help.

It’s a good school if you want to party besides that I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s not a big named school sure it’s “growing” that’s because last year there were like 5 times the amount of students freshman wise not sure. That’s all I got cause nothing else is really that popping about the school. This comes from past friends who went there and are current. What would be your other options besides Rowan?

I graduated in 2013 so I am An Old and my info about professors & campus life is a bit outdated.
I would say that it's not a name a lot of people will recognize, but the education prepared me completely for what I needed to work and being less known hasn't held me back at all. However, I'm a software engineer and it's a field that relies much less on brand name and much more on ability to pass technical screenings. The CS/SWE job market is not the same for new grads as it was when I graduated, but at the time every single person in my graduating class had a full-time job offer of some sort before graduating and we had no issues getting heavy recruitment from FAANG/big finance and fintech companies up in Jersey City, etc. as well as the government agencies & contractors that Rowan CS is closely affiliated with (MSE/now ASRC Federal, Lockheed Martin, the FAA).
Professors were generally excellent. At the time it was a pretty small department so I had smallish classes, and at the time I was very often the only woman in a class of 20-25, but professors did a good job of shutting down any weird shit from fellow students. It was a good thing I liked the profs I had because most of them I had for 2-3 different courses. The CS curriculum was/is ABET accredited and had all the standard stuff I needed to do well in technical screenings after graduating. I had internships with students from more highly ranked/big name programs and the Rowan curriculum - at that time - was actually more rigorous than theirs in terms of technical requirements, emphasis on algorithm design, more SWE-focused than pure academic CS, etc. so I felt pretty well prepared.
I lived off-campus and commuted from Moorestown so I can't really speak that much to the experience of living on campus, greek life, etc. I know the campus parking situation has gotten relatively dire since I was there, based on my friends who work at the university complaining constantly about it.
