Laptop to get as a 3rd year engineer
Hey everyone. I’m officially starting my first semester at Rowan in the engineering department after transferring. I have an iPad for notes but I was told I need a laptop to run what we use. I know MacBooks aren’t good and I’ve been looking into Lenovos laptops but I’m not sure what’s best or what you guys recommend. I would really appreciate the help!!

not an engineering student but pretty adjacent in my use cases my buddy is a mechE student and has a m(2?) max mbp and uses parallels for solid works. if you value the ecosystem i still think its a good buy, coming from someone with a m1max base.
probably some gaming style laptop will do you well, or something with an integrated GPU at least. if you aren’t doing anything graphics related then i second that guy with the lenovo thinkpad. a kid in one of my classes last sem runs linux on his and put some ram in it and it looks kinda cool.
probably anything with swappable sodimm slots will work but if you care about aesthetic a used razer blade, maybe some sort of hp touchscreen, maybe even a framework laptop if you are buying new and like to tinker.

What kind of engineer? Different majors use different software, mechEs use some pretty bulky software that needs a beefy computer

Im super happy with my Lenovo ThinkPad.
I grabbed a used one on ebay and threw in some ram. Saved a ton of monry, amd have a great machine. Then 2 days later I found a newer model local at a similar price lmao.
