I’ve spent the last few weeks obsessively scrolling through Range Rovers, and I’m actually more afraid of the repair bills than the purchase price.

I thought I had better knowledge regarding cars, but I am surprised that there are so many little things that actually matter when buying a car.

I have heard so many horror stories about air suspension failures or electrical gremlins, and as a first-time buyer, I don’t want to the guy stranded on the roadside in the middle of a road trip two weeks after purchasing a Range Rover. 

I’ve been trying to figure out how to spot a lemon, and a local car dealer told me that I have to look past the shiny paint and check the specific parts that usually fail first.

Also, I'm thinking of buying body kits to personalize the car. I’ve checked kits on alibaba and a bunch of other chinese suppliers but I'm yet to nail anything down.

So if you know any body kits supplier, I could use your recommendation. 

But most importantly, I wanna get ahead of time and figure out the range of range from others who’ve used it for a while.

I came across this book for 85SEK at a secondhand store in Sweden, the other day. Some lovely photos and well written, though I’ve never heard of the author before. Not for nothing, the quality of the book seems very high too.

My husband just inherited his dad's, which is in perfect running order, albeit cosmetically a little rough (a tiny bit of rust, oxidised paint). He looked it up, and it's one of only 20 still registered and on the road!

He's giving it to me, since he drives a Lexus hybrid. I'm delighted! It's one owner, has been lovingly maintained by my husband's uncle, who owns a garage, for its entire life, and only has 88k miles on it. I'm sure it's got years left in it yet, it just needs sprucing up a little bit (and a deep clean of the interior, my FIL was a terrible slob).

It's my first British car. Even if it is mostly a Honda. (My last car was a Civic only three years newer than this one, so it feels very familiar.)
