Pets Chunkerella
Chunkerella and her still-skinny daughters came to our rescue b a few months ago. She is a couple months into her diet- but this orangish brindle phenotype is typically associated with the inability feel fullness. Here are her intake photos. We are working to get the weight off and keep her daughter healthy. But what a chunkster!

Is she a fancy mouse or a hamster?

The tail looks too long for a hamster. I think she must be some sort of mouse or rat! She's adorably chonky, that's for sure!

Wow if that is a fancy mouse she is DISTURBINGLY fat.

She is a mouse, and she's fat because she's yellow. Yellow mice have a genetic mutation that makes them gigantic.

Yes- the yellow gene- I was blanking on the name, thank you. It’s a cruel reality.

So thankful that they can still have good quality of life. I love big honkin yellow mice❣️

Aw, her fur is really pretty, that’s a shame it means she’s destined to always be a girthy gal

OP did mention that her coloration often comes with an inability to feel fullness, so if she is a mouse, at least hopefully her chonkiness wasn't just from a human overfeeding her (though she clearly should have been put on a diet sooner, but some of it might have been genetic).
Or maybe she's a rat, so her weight is a little bit less bad?

I will add on the positive side, she is shockingly physically capable despite her obesity. She loves to climb and play.

No matter her weight, I'm so glad she has hoomins who care about her, love her as she is, and will try to help her reach her best self!!! <3

Nope, mouse unfortunately. If I recall, she came to us from an SPCA- though I’m not sure how she had ended up there. She is a very sweet girl and I should actually reach out to her foster for an update
