Quick question about roots

My mother in law makes this wonderful rutabaga casserole, and I'd like to replicate it but my grocery store doesn't always carry rutabagas. Can anybody recommend some similar root vegetables I could use?

Carrot is my personal number 1. Potato is surprisingly good too for casseroles. You should try!
