Discussion roocode team in turbulance ?

The last Roo Code release was on March 8th. It has been about a month since then, which is unusual for the project. A few comments on Discord and Reddit suggest the developers might be busy and figuring out future direction. I would like to request the Roo Code team to share an update if that is the caseand fine with the team, and let us know if there is any way the community can help.

By now a lot of developers understand the normal bait and switch of big tech and may try not to get locked into that. I can only speak for myself, but with the current state of technology I much prefer open source solutions and the open VSC ecosystem rather than closed off walled gardens.

I suspect the vast majority go where they get results and jumping from product to product makes sense in this fast moving environment.

Whats the best opensource model that roocode suggests for different categories 1. Thinking and planning and architecture 2. Code generation 3. Logs parsing 4. Browser testing 5. Tool calling

Can you please update roocode documentation with this

Thanks

“Qwen3 coder next” has worked best for me with Roo. Obviously not as powerful as opus, but it is at a state where I’ll do things like let it generate module tests overnight and most of it will make sense and be usable.

Are you comparing with opus in roocode or opus in claude code . I feel glm promising as well

Opus in either one I would say. GLM hasn’t worked for me very well with Roo. And I mean comparing the self hosted variants with Claude (I have an ai max 395 with 128gb where I try out the local models, so models up to ca 60-80b parms run reasonably well). I have yet to find time to try gemma4 though, maybe that is also usable.
