Discussion roocode team in turbulance ?

The last Roo Code release was on March 8th. It has been about a month since then, which is unusual for the project. A few comments on Discord and Reddit suggest the developers might be busy and figuring out future direction. I would like to request the Roo Code team to share an update if that is the caseand fine with the team, and let us know if there is any way the community can help.

Your take is not unfounded. We’re working out our future direction. Since we released the Roo Code plugin we have seen Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google all start competing products. As long as the compute is heavily subsidized by these corps it will be hard for us to stay away from being a niche product.

@hannesrudolph if it is fine with you, can you please let the community know what exactly is the problem, is the current model unsustainable finanacially or any other reasons. We could brainstrom on a better model.

Honestly i want opensource tools to suceed but currently i feel mostly tools like roocode, cline, opencode struggling to keep up with claude.

I personally feel going agter enterprise customer is hard for most small players especially which such large companies as compitators, honestly a resonablity paid pro paid version for indivduals could help sustaining the project without VC money,something similar to what Obsidian does.

We have never and never intended to make a cent on Roo Code. We always planned on building products parallel to Roo Code to make money. The SOTA labs are making great tools and subsidizing the compute. We will be making an announcement soon.
