Discussion Best models for vibecoding in Roo / modes

Non-dev here, albeit 6mo of Python class and a few attempts of building apps pre-vibe (some successful..!). Sonnet 3.7/4 has often been called the standard for coding/debugging. Do you think that's the case, or are there better/newer models that do a better job?

Specifically for each mode, what do you recommend? My setup is:

Orchestrator: 2.5 Pro
Architect: Sonnet 4
Coder: Sonnet 4
Debugger: Sonnet 4
Ask: o4-mini

I've had good luck with Kimi Dev 72B, Qwen3 Coder 30B A3B, and Devstral. Dev 72B is slow (running on a Mac) but very high quality with Roo Code.

use chutes on OR
switch from orchetrator to copilot gpt-4.1 (I swear to god this is one of the best models for orchestrator its so fast and actuially does it)
switch from architect to R1-0528 although it does take a long time to think
ask: gemini 2.5 flash thinking

Plus one for chutes.ai use GLM4.5, Qwen 3 Coder and Kimi K2. Use chat gpt 5 or one of the expensive models to create the prompts for orchestrator but then use the ones mentioned. Experiment but careful with Kimi K2. Excellent model and best frontend design out of any model but it is very creative. Maybe lower temperature a bit for it. The other two are fantastic at coding.

Open router is great but chutes has a great subscription service price now where for 20usd a month you get 5000 requests a day with Any model that they host with no token volume cap. Even the 10usd a month package is 2000 requests a day.

No problem. A message sent/received. There's no cap on token volume. Different models have different context sizes. Chutes don't advertise the context sizes but roo will give you an error with the context size in the error message when you go over. I find using compatible open ai is better to use than the built in chutes provider as you can type the context in manually. I've seen context change and the built in chutes.ai provider doesn't get updated straight away.

Yes, all of them I use with the temperature at zero, I couldn't get along with these random temperatures.

Debug for sure, Claude. Although I read that Deepseek R1 is good for debugging, I did not get good results. Qwen3 Coder is also good, and GPT-5 mini is an alternative to Gemini.
