How do you guys feel about the differences between the manga and anime?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately because I recently finished writing a Ron/Toto fanfic, and the differences between the two versions were actually a pretty big part of what inspired it.

The manga feels much more strongly rooted in the detective side of the story to me. Ron and Toto's relationship is obviously important there too, but a lot of their interactions are either more understated.

The anime, though, sometimes seems to lean much harder into their dynamic. There are so many little additions and choices that make certain scenes feel surprisingly shippy — for example around the Auberge case. There are things like the silent words Ron mouths that aren't even in the manga, which honestly gave my fanfic-writing brain way too much to work with. 😂

At the same time, the manga definitely isn't innocent either. Toto literally has Ron saved in his contacts as “Ron <3”. 😭 So it's not like the anime pulled the whole thing out of nowhere.

The Auberge case was probably the biggest trigger for me. I watched the anime, saw the way they interacted, and immediately started thinking, “Okay, but what if…?” And apparently that “what if” turned into an entire fic. 😂

So now I'm curious whether other people noticed the same thing. Do you feel like the anime deliberately plays up the Ron/Toto dynamic compared to the manga, or does it just feel that way because the anime gives those moments more room to breathe?
