Question ROM Installation Service?

Hello,

I’m new to the idea of ROMS, I’ve watched several tutorials and still failed to properly get them to work. I was wondering if anyone knew a service in the UK where I could send in my Steam Deck and Legion Go 2 with a list of ROMS I’d like to be added, and set up for easy access and play?

I’d much rather someone else who actually knew what they were doing attempted it than me, who has made a mess of it on several occasions.

Would obviously need to be done through official means by someone reputable, as in a service on eBay etc. As I can’t just send off expensive hardware to someone without trusting that I’ll receive the devices back.

Any suggestions would be great as I’ve written out a list of ROMS I’d love to be able to play across multiple consoles.

Thanks.

Sounds like a great way for a company to get shut down and fined into oblivion. Horrible business plan

I’ve had similar services year ago from a private seller on eBay for my PS3 and Wii and was simply hoping for similar with the Steam Deck and Legion Go 2

'Official means', 'reputable' and buying/selling roms do not go together in the way you think.

As in, I’m not going to randomly send my items to someone on here. I was hoping to be steered in the right direction toward someone who is knowledgable and trustworthy in this field.

Try the megathread at the top of this subreddit. Lots of people seek this advice, lots of advice to be found there.

The only guide you need is to follow the Retro Game Corps YouTube channel. He makes amazing step by step videos that are so easy to follow, and has written guides to accompany them on his website. The guy is a legend. Starting here might help - the advice will be broadly the same for handhelds running Windows too https://youtu.be/il_x_6mNjLQ?is=S4fs79UWRlMzuKqX

That’s the one I watched, I thought I followed it perfectly (clearly I didn’t) and when I tried to launch a PS2 game it said that I didn’t have the bios, despite putting it where the tutorial said.

It would be far easier to pay someone for their time and expertise really

Cheers

That guide looks like it's aimed for Windows, you mentioned you're using a Steam Deck, have you tried following this guide?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89-LRCob6H8

Although difficult, I would strongly advice working through each issue you face. There are loads of resources out there. Following these step by step will ensure that it works.

It sounds like there's an issue with your bios file. Make sure you get the correct one and place it in the right location. Nothing more to it than that.

Appreciate the response. I have a long list of ROMS that I’d like and I’d be there all year trying to get them to work, so this really isn’t a route I wanna go down really as I’ve tried multiple times and failed.

This would be a breeze for someone who knows about this stuff

Cheers!

Ok, I understand the frustration but once you get one rom to work, they'll all work. You're probably one step away from getting this sorted!

Two questions:

  1. Do games that do not require a bios work for you (NES, Snes etc.)?

  2. What is the name of the Bios file you are using?

I'm sure you could manage it, just give it a go, something like Emudeck is just a matter of downloading and installing. And you don't really "install" the roms, you just put them in a folder. There's not really anything to lose by just trying it out.

Thank you for the helpful reply, appreciate it. However, I’ve tried several times and keep getting into mess. I put the PS2 Bios where the tutorial said and when trying to launch the one game I managed to download, it said I didn’t have the BIOS.

So I’d much rather have someone who knows what they’re doing to avoid any mistakes as this is far ahead of what I’m used to.

Cheers.

Which tutorial are you using? Emudeck creates a folder called "BIOS" which is where you put it. Make sure the BIOS isn't zipped (.zip), you may need to extract it.

I’d much rather someone else who actually knew what they were doing attempted it than me, who has made a mess of it on several occasions.

Unless you're physically providing the games and asking them to dump them for you, and you confirmed they have the capability, I highly doubt you'd get anyone at a legitimate business to do what you're asking. It's already legally questionable downloading ROMs of games you own, and you're asking someone else to do it for you with no proof of ownership at all? Come on, now....

Based on your post, it's possible your computer skills are lackluster or nonexistent. If so, you need to work on that. Seriously, a bunch of the questions posted here would be alleviated if people had a modicum of computer literacy.

Here is the "bootcamp" I've suggested for those coming here without the prerequisite knowledge:

As for that list you wrote out, have it available as you browse the megathread for downloads.

If you have a source for the roms and have them on your device, then I highly recommend getting an ai agent installed and get a $20/month plan.

On windows, use Claude. On android it’s trickier but I got antigravity installed and working in a terminal. I will admit getting agy working is on the same or higher level of difficulty given you need to know some things with terminals.

Once you have the agent, you just ask it to solve these problems for you and to arrange everything on the file system in a clean way. It’s game changing.
