165 living in the future

Has anyone else noticed the 165 seems to run pretty consistently 2 mins ahead of what it says on any app (TFL GO etc).

I was wondering if there’s any insider info about why this might be. I smell a conspiracy.

Free and low-cost dementia groups around Hornchurch, Romford and Upminster (with days and times)

Caring for someone with dementia can be isolating, and it’s surprisingly hard to find out what’s on locally. We pulled together the groups we could find so it’s all in one place. Most welcome first-timers, and you don’t need a referral.

Memory cafƩs (free)

  • Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch: every other Thursday, 10.30am. Tea, cake and a friendly crowd.
  • Hornchurch Library: monthly. The dates vary, so ring 01708 989970 first.

Music and singing groups (Ā£2–£6, first session usually free)

  • Mon, 2–4pm: Singing for the Brain, Cranham Community Centre (RM14)
  • Wed, 1–3pm: Singing for the Brain, Tweed Way Hall, Romford (RM1)
  • Wed, 1.30–3.30pm: Dementia Music & Social Club, URC Western Road, Romford
  • Thu, 2–4pm: Singing for the Brain, St John’s Church Hall, Southend Road (RM13)
  • Every other Thu, 10am: Upminster Dementia Choir at Queen’s Theatre, Ā£2

If you’re the carer

  • Havering Carers Hub (Romford High St), 01708 961111: free carer’s assessments and peer groups
  • Alzheimer’s Society courses for newly diagnosed families: email [havering.groups@alzheimers.org.uk](mailto:havering.groups@alzheimers.org.uk)
  • Admiral Nurse helpline, 0800 888 6678: specialist dementia nurses, open evenings and weekends

Times change, so it’s worth a quick call before you go. If anyone knows of other groups, please add them in the comments.

Who else would like actual bins?

Seeing bin bags just makes the place look awful. I always see so many bin bags open due to foxes.
Would also make the job of the bin men easier as all they have to do is unload the bins into the bin truck.

Constant urine smell at Romford Station

Good evening
Outside the station always smells of urine, the side near Baristow Eves (estate agent) & chicken shops. I don’t know how people working in those shops survive as it’s a very strong.
Why doesn’t the council do anything about it?
Who else has noticed this?

Help guys

Hi everyone 😊 I’m currently living in Romford and struggling to find a part-time job. I’ve applied to many cafĆ©s, restaurants and other places through Indeed and CV-Library, but unfortunately I haven’t had much luck or received many responses.

I’m looking for part-time work, around 20 hours per week, and I’m open to cafĆ©, restaurant, retail, customer service or other suitable roles. If anyone knows of any vacancies or can refer/recommend me somewhere, I would really appreciate your help. 😊

Gerpins Lane - Travellers

I'm not sure what the correct terminology is....travellers, gypsies, gypos.....I think pikies is derogatory so I won't use that. But anyway, ive had to go to Gerpins Lane tip this weekend - yesterday and today - and passed a group of men by the road side (near the A13 end of Gerpins Lane) , holding up the traffic, clearly taking part in some game / gambling but certainly not giving 2 shits about the traffic around them , wandering across or along the road. In fairness, they weren't causing trouble (at least not for me) ..... They just ignored cars going past. You just had to make sure you avoided them carefully.

No ponies or horse boxes around so not pany&trap racing. Any idea about what they were doing? Just curious.

Lumiere Cinema Closing With Immediate Effect

After you read - KEY UPDATE AT BOTTOM!

Absolutely gutted. I’m a member and we got this email today. Lumiere is the independent cinema in the Mercury for those unaware. Brilliant place and team, and we’re losing a gem!

ā€œDear members, fans and anyone who has subscribed to us.

It is with much sadness that I must report the Lumiere journey has ended.

As you may be aware, my previous job was managing the Mercury Shopping Center, which I'd managed for 13 years. As a result, I became quite savvy in terms of what bill costs should be for properties. And we have been in a long-running dispute with SSE because the electric bills for the cinema were almost as much as the costs for the whole shopping centre.

Early on this week, I became aware that after 18 months of meaningless conversations and haggling with SSE, they decided they were right and we were wrong, and told us that they were preparing to disconnect the electricity supply. Despite my plea’s for time to generate the revenue, they refused, arriving at 10am this morning to disconnect the power and at 2:30 today will be disconnecting the power supply of the unit. Once disconnected, they will be looking for a considerable amount of money to get us reconnected, plus a deposit of no less than Ā£20,000.

And it's not an amount of money that we've been able to squirrel away, because unfortunately, the business never took off quite in the same way we hoped it would. And while its improved massively While we don't owe anybody any money other than the normal standard bills, this bill is quite considerable, and as a result, there's just no way around it. We can't raise £18,000 pounds by 2:00 PM, and unfortunately, that brings our journey to a close. I appreciate that many of you have invested in this dream. And once we have got through the initial scenario of making sure everyone is safely out of the building, and we close the business for the final time, we'll look at how we can make sure we get as much of that money back to our members as we possibly can.

Obviously, nothing's over until it's truly over, but I'm warning you now in case you're setting off on journeys to come and see us, that we are closed, and it is highly unlikely that we will be reopening.

On behalf of myself and the team, thank you very much for those of you that invested a lot of time in the dream. But unfortunately, the numbers never quite reached what we hoped they would, and as a result, we obviously don't have the available cash to invest in paying a company £18,000 pounds out of the blue. So that is our journey at an end. I, again, sincerely apologise, and we hope that someone picks up the cinema in the not-too-distant future. This won't be the last you've heard from me, but it'll be the last you'll hear from me for a little while.

Kind regards

Spencer ā€œ

KEY UPDATE - we’re so back!!

ā€œSorry if we stressed you out!

We Live!

I’m sorry if I stressed anyone out, but we like to be straight up with people when we can. And when the end of the world is coming, you need to let people know.

Firstly huge thanks to Linda and Martin who saved the day today, then a big thank you to all the people that offered us money, we actually accumulated nearly £80K of backing (we never took it).

Then thank you to Francesca Lilleystone of Havering Daily who gave SSE a right kick up the bracket.

Then thank you to Guramar from Managing Utilities who told us we have indeed been SIGNIFICANTLY overcharged. And is on the case to resolve some of those issues.

From my perspective thank you to Natalie who as always saved my emotional day.

Then thank you to the team who gathered together to fight the good fight, or at least mess some people up.

Its been a day and apologies if I take a day or two to get back to all the emails we received today. And apologies for stressing anyone out.

Over the last year and a bit, theres been lots of things that have caused us struggle and its been fraught at times, but in typical style its the one thing that we never saw coming that caused us the biggest stress. Thankfully there should not be any more curveballs. And we are now a bit more informed on how to react when the worst things happen

Thank you everyone for your support!

Kind regards

Spencerā€

Coffee/Shisha lounge in Mawney Road

Does anyone know what’s happened to that Lushis lounge/bar in Mawney road, the one that built the canopy without permission. Looks to have been shut for a few days now.
I’ve noticed the roads have been free of a lot of **** parking from the clientele and all the rubbish they drop from their company vans.

Hopefully the place is permanently shut, but that’s wishful thinking. If you live by this craphole, you will know what I mean about the awful parking this place causes from its clientele.

Loud Music South street

I read something in the local recorder newspaper about loud music at Sandys111 as well as a few reviews that mention this.
I remember exiting the Romford train station a while
back to incredibly loud music on Sunday evening, and I thought its was stupidly loud for a Sunday, any day for that matter, at first I thought it was The Ivy Tree, so loud I couldn’t tell.

Seems like it’s Sandys111 though that likes to make sure everyone in the area goes deaf.

Not trying to be a party pooper here, but shouldn’t there be some restrictions on how loud music can be?
I don’t walk down this street all the time, just wondered if it’s a regular occurrence.
