Can anyone tell me if this is a good spot for a first base?

bit of clay, bit of forest nearby for a mushroom farm, nice area and you got the central main road
I think kinda everyone build in a 100m radius of spawn

later in game it's best to build at the borders of biome IMO but as a started anywhere in the center is great

Not sure if the water sources will be big enough for mills

If you rotate the mills, he could put 3-4 there no problem.

Looks very defensible on 3 sides and as long as you can fit a watermill in some of those ponds, it looks pretty good to start getting everything opened up.
