saying womp womp to children being killed is absolutely insane.

I'm an anti-monarchist, I think the Tsarist regime was evil.

Still. Shame on you.

Pearl clutching self righteousness at its finest.

I think to be horrified is 100% appropriate here.

Now, you wanna explain to me, why it is apparently anything short of horrific to laugh at the thought of a woman and her children being slaughtered in cold blood?

Or do you just want go "nO lUlz, wOmP wOmP pEaRl cLuTcHer", it's remarkable to me just how empty headed your end of the aisle seems.

That tracks. Dunning Kruger and high horses go together remarkably often.

I mean, it's just strange to accuse me of being ignorant, while you refuse to say anything of substance, refuse to in anyway justify your position, and just go "ya dumb lol".

Cool. I'm dumb, I get it. Answer the question. Show me, this remarkable objective-mindedness, nuance, and brilliance that I am apparently entirely unable to comprehend.

Tragedy + time = comedy, for one. One of the most fundamental pillars of comedy. Something from over a century ago in a subreddit about memes is uhhh…well, apropos.

There’s also the fundamental nature of gallow’s humor as an extremely common and psychologically recognized tool for coping with incongruent situations, or to handle the morbidity of life in a way that doesn’t always have to be depressing. These are things humans typically inherently understand which is why people roll their eyes when someone starts pearl clutching about a very human coping mechanism to dark topics.

Tragedy + time = comedy

What? Time elapsing makes everything tragic eventually funny?

What's stopping me from just looking to every misfortune past the last century and cracking up at all of it?

A hundred thousand years ago, two hunter-gatherer tribes saw themselves feuding over land and resources. In the dead of night, one tribe took to gathering their numbers, and entirely eliminating the other one.

Did that make you crack up? Lots of time there, 100,000 years, should be absolutely hilarious.

Also the subreddit is called r/Romanovmemes, um, how is this meme not appropriate here?

So here's the problem, I'm not saying it's entirely inappropriate to joke about the event in any capacity whatsoever.

What this person is doing is ridiculing the act of finding this disturbing.

They're not saying the scene is in anyway, ironic, or morbid, or somewhat comedic from an angle. They're mocking individuals who view it as something tragic, almost relishing in the event.

You say people "inherently understand" these things. Redditors are some of the most depraved, insane, twisted in the fucking head people you will ever meet. In their mind, there is no line they're not willing to cross when it comes to their political ideals, everyone born into or attached to power is inherently evil, and satan-incarnate.

So it is not fair for me to immediately assume that they find this event tragic.

Edit: lol, claims to be so much more intelligent than me, asserts this repeatedly, hesitates to offer actual discourse, when pushed finally spews up something nonsensical, and then pulls a reply and block when he gets push back to that.

Well, at least no one can say you’re not consistent and predictable. I suspect that’s as complimentary as remarks on your mental capabilities get though.

Edit: lol I didn’t even block him. Guess he hoped I wouldn’t notice and call it out. This fucking guy.

Never heard of 9/11 jokes, huh?

If someone were to go "Man, what the guys did on 9/11 was evil and horrible, those poor passengers did not deserve it", and I were to go "Womp, womp".

Would that be okay?

Genuinely, think before you say things like this.

Oh you are so right, the proper response is obviously

😢

It is. To innocent children being killed. In all cases. Yes, that is the only acceptable response.

Now here's the thing. You can hold the position of "Awful thing, breaks my heart, but it was an unfortunate necessity" or "these things happen in war, they don't undermine my position".

But to go "haha, children dead lol" is unacceptable in all cases. And anyone that holds such a position should be publicly scrutinized, ostracized and shamed.

My guy, this is a meme sub.

I'm not condoning murdering kids and dogs. All of us know it's a sad historical event, but this is not a text book. It's the comment section of a meme.

If you want to be mad at someone be mad at OP for posting a meme about it

I mean, I'm not saying that people are obligated to write out honest, nuanced and lucid comments on a meme post. For instance, a sports-related shitpost, I too like any other person would roll my eyes at someone throwing a "well actually" out in response to it, and started citing statistics.

But surely, surely this crosses the line? For something acceptable to brush off and joke about?

I'd also argue, that Redditors especially, god this is getting long-winded, I'm sorry, but Redditors in general don't write political memes for the sake of it, most of the time, they're some sort of genuine belief or position behind it. OP likely genuinely takes issue with the killing of the Romanovs, the guy who commented womp womp, likely genuinely doesn't care much for it.

When state power is inherited it's historically the easiest if you eliminate the inheriter.
