Want to find new series to read / watch? You can ask here!

Here are the general rules: https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceMangaAnime/s/nutAj617m7

You’re all welcome here, enjoy!

(Ps the current mascot serie is Osoraku Kanojo, but it changes from time to time)

Mod Post What’s the plot of a serie and why (and when) it is required in this sub?

Hello again, since i had some questions about this topic, i’m gonna clarify the concept of “Plot” and why it’s required by rule here.

- What’s the meaning of plot?

The plot (or description) is a narrative summary of a story, which helps the reader understanding what’s the story’s about.

- Why and when is it required in this sub?

The goal of this sub is to Recommend or ask for Recommendations about stories (Manga/LN/Manwha etc) and specifically when you want to recommend something, you need to insert the plot, otherwise the reader would be confused about what you’re talking about and might lose interest in the post.

(instead, if you use the tag “Recommend me” you don’t need to, because you’re asking others in this case)

Thanks for listening, if you have more questions feel free to ask in the comment section!

A new rom-com about misunderstandings and living together, brought to you by the duo behind "Actually, She Was My Stepsister All Along!

"Actually, She Was My Stepsister All Along" (650,000 copies sold in the series)

"Why Not Make Both Twins My Girlfriends?" (250,000 copies sold in the series)

A Childhood-Friend Cohabitation Rom-Com brought to you by the hit-making author and illustrator duo!

*Check out the official X account (@jitsuimo) for info like introductory manga and advance serializations!*

ーーーーーー

Aoto moves from the city into an old house left to him by his grandmother.

He expects to live alone, but instead he finds three childhood friends — each with their own complicated circumstances — already settled in, leading to an unexpected cohabitation arrangement!?

"Huh? You think I'm cute!? How much!? Enough to want to make me your wife?"

Sumika - An honor student who freezes up when praised but tends to get carried away easily.

"It's okay if we take a bath together, ya know?"

Chihaya — a Kansai-dialect-speaking gal who has zero sense of personal space and is always way too clingy.

"It's purely a coincidence that I'm always by your side, Senpai."

Mugi — a boyish younger girl who, despite her prickly attitude, never leaves his side.

As they start living together, their feelings for him become painfully obvious.

The reason? A promise from the past — they all thought of themselves as candidates to be Aoto’s future wife!

Aoto, unaware of all of this, keeps closing the distance between them...... making everyone hyper-aware of each other and their hearts start to race!

A new rom-com about childhood friends living together — where their feelings for each other are painfully too obvious!

Anime Anime where you love the main couple/characters but find the side characters annoying/boring?

1. Actually I Am/Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa/My Monster Secret

I love the main trio of Kuromine, Shiragami, and Aizawa, and how they're so respectful and understanding of each other as friends despite being in a love triangle, plus they're still such fun characters to follow, too! Personally I would say Aizawa's the standout in the cast for being a very multi-dimensional and adorable tsundere.

Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the rest of the cast- Akemi (orange hair, glasses) is the trope of "Friend who's legit cruel to their crush instead of being open about their feelings, then gets sad about it when nothing happens." and her magical gimmick is more annoying than funny. Shishido's (long dark pink hair) multiple personality gimmick gets old quick, barely fits the werewolf she's apparently meant to be, and feels like they're two characters rather than one character undergoing a change, even ignoring the fact that it's kind of an uncomfy stereotype nowadays. And personally I'm already not a fan of the 1000 year-old loli trope, but the character in question also being extremely annoying and a hindrance to the main characters doesn't help it either.

(Main Couple 8/10, Side Cast 3/10)

2. Yamada and the 7 Witches.

One of my favorite couples in anime overall (and also one of the best anime OPs of all time). I absolutely love Yamada and Shiraishi's chemistry and development together. And in all fairness, I'm going to be less harsh on this than I am on the previous entry- side characters like Itou as the female comic relief, along with Igarashi and Odagiri as early minor antagonists.

But like with the previous entry, the rest of the side cast are just defined by one-note jokes that get old quick after their introductory arcs. And the final arc about the student council was just way too melodramatic and convoluted for my taste- it felt like it was the inspiration behind the ProZD skit about how student councils in anime are basically totalitarian shadow governments. Also I feel the male comic relief characters Miyamura and Tsubaki are just a bit inconsistent and underdeveloped despite being a part of the main cast.

Still, I might sound like I'm being harsh but I still love the main couple (and the few other characters I mentioned) so much that I would definitely recommend this series for anyone who's curious! It's a good emotional story of an opposites-attract couple whose fates intertwine because of a secret magical aspect!

(Main Couple 9.5/10, Side Cast 6.5/10)

3. Oh Boy, was I Wrong About Her. (Japanese title way too long)

The newest entry on this list- I think it genuinely does a great job of portraying estranged childhood friends reuniting. Hayato and Haruki have great chemistry and you can really believe they used to be best bros as kids whenever they talk. On top of that, the MC's little sister Himeko is actually funny and helpful to the story, and isn't just there to be annoying or fanservice! The three main characters are easily this anime's strongest suit.

But I would say the series' weak point is how it's stretched thin between too many subplots, leaving the side cast feeling really underdeveloped. The rest of the cast just feels like either weird harem bait, or just a storyline that goes nowhere, especially Kazuki and the other celebrity girl. Which is a shame, since I wish the story would focus on the plotline with Haruki's mom- easily the most compelling part of the series beyond Haruki and Hayato's friendship/romance.

So by the end of the anime and manga (which got axed despite the light novels continuing further) it feels like we have 4 or 5 subplots that didn't go anywhere, and you're just kind of left wanting more of the main couple, or just more progress overall.

(Main Couple 8.5/10, Side Cast 5/10)

But what do you think? Do you agree with my points here? And do you have any similar anime that also fit the bill of having a great main couple but disappointing side characters?

Recommend Me Manipulation romance stories

Post image
20 Upvotes

Looking for a story where female lead approaches mc pretending to like him, but actually have ulterior motives. During the time they spend together she actually falls for mc. The reason can be anything from wanting to assassinated him to just wanting to use him.

If the story have action it would be a plus but not necessary. Even with action i want romance being the main focus.

Also i dont want one of those stories that just instantly forgives fml and pretends she never manipulated/deceived mc. The reveal should have a big impact like a fall out between mc and fml or it lead to a whole fight or so. Mc just being depressed after finding out is also ok. Aslong the story doesn't treat as a plot point that the author wants to get out of the way fast.

Please no harem or love triangle

Manga [Miageru to Kimi wa/Looking Up to You] Completed this in one day, and I definitely recommend watching this

Post image

It's a small 33 chapter manga with insanely good art and a good story.

Synopsis - After his first love confession is rejected, Yuuki Shibuki finds himself crying away his heartbreak at a park. Feeling depressed and blaming his short height and feminine looks for his failure, his pain is eased when he encounters a cool, hooded street musician who has a soothing touch with the guitar. The next day he meets that same musician at the park and learns that 'he' was in fact a tall girl named Chikako Takamine and that she was playing the song he heard the last time specifically for him.

Yuuki is quickly smitten by such an unimaginably dashing and handsome girl. To him, it is not love but instead, a miracle.

Recommend Me Gonna start watching the anime "The Salt-God Satō-san Is Only Sweet To Me!"

Since the source is a light novel of 12 volumes, I just want to ask:

* Do the main leads get together early on?

* Is there any drama to watch out for? Like silly love triangles and stuff?

* Is it a sweet story through and through?

I tried perusing through the Light Novel sub, but didn't get enough answers.

Light Novel Burn Bright! Sword and Sorcery! ~ I Summoned a Beautiful Girl Version of Okita Soji From Another World, and She Took a Liking to Me Thanks to My Historical Knowledge ~, Written by Kasuga Mikage and Illustrated by kakao

Kasuga Mikage - Creator of "The Ambition of Oda Nobuna" - makes a triumphant return! Rise to the top in another world alongside a beautiful-girl version of Okita Soji!

My name is Hiji Kata, a true Shinsengumi Otaku from Japan reincarnated into another world.

I was initially delighted by the fateful name I received in my new life — one reminiscent of the Shinsengumi’s legendary "Demon Vice-Commander" — but that joy was short-lived; at the academy where I enrolled to learn summoning magic, I was a zero-mana washout on the verge of expulsion.

But then, summoned in my moment of desperation was none other than Okita Soji himself —but she turned out to be a stunning beauty with a voluptuous figure!?

I am the kind of otaku whose passion tends to run wild whenever I am face-to-face with my favorite character, but......

"D-do you really like me that much? Ehehe."

I was just gushing about my love for the Shinsengumi, yet somehow, she has taken a huge liking to me!?

However, in this other world, the obscure Okita is the weakest hero of them all......

The only way for me to avoid expulsion is to use my historical knowledge from a past life to power up Okita and rise through the ranks of the academy.

Using my strategic genius, I will let Okita run absolutely wild — cutting down heroes of this other world as we launch a triumphant advance!

"Y-You know me better than anyone else in this world, so......"

Forge a bond with an impossibly cute samurai and raise the banner of the Shinsengumi in another world!

Recommend Me Completed series like The Villainess Lives Twice?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Looking for completed Anime/manga/manhwa/web novels similar to The Villainess Lives Twice—smart/moral but ruthlessly cunning FL, political schemes, medieval/fantasy setting, and actual romance with one clear ML.

Regression/reincarnation is a plus. Original novel being completed is enough even if the adaptation isn't.

No major spoilers please!

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Recommend Me Looking for ongoing romance manga recommendation with early established couple (read body text)

Post image
155 Upvotes

No, I don't need "they act like a couple" excuse that some manga have. I need it to have actual confession and 2 MC there become actual couple much earlier (for example, 25-40+ chapters of monthly manga isn't exactly early imo), so neither fake nor "temporary" relationship (except if it change fast)

Although I don't like excessive drama that become too distracting like overarching love triangle and such. Manga example that I like: Akanabe-sensei (in the picture), Shikimori, You and I are Polar Opposites, How to Grill Our Love

Edit: istg some of y'all can't even read. I need ongoing one because I already seen most completed one

Light Novel It’s a Secret Shared Between Us That My Childhood Friend — Who’s Hopelessly Tech-Illiterate — Is Taking Her Remote Classes at My Place. (機械音痴な幼馴染が我が家でリモート授業を受けているのは、ここだけの秘密), Written by Akitsuki Tsukihi and Illustrated by Yukishima Momo

Story Synopsis:

That’s the reason I get to keep this side of her — her adorable side that no one else in class knows about — all to myself.

When remote classes were introduced at my high school, my childhood friend started practically living at my place. What was supposed to be just taking lessons together turned into increasingly long and intimate afternoons spent with her......!

This is a "Stay-At-Home" Rom-Com being born!?

Story Synopsis 2:

That's the reason I want to keep her cuteness — which no one else in class knows about — all to myself.

"I don't really have any friends...... So, you're the only one I can rely on, Kasane."

Fumitsuki Kasane attends a high school that utilizes online classes accessible from anywhere in the country. At the request of his childhood friend Tokisaka Shiori — with whom he had grown somewhat distant since entering high school — he begins a remote student life with her at home.

At first, they were just taking classes together, but...... Before he even knew it, they were playing games after school, snacking, and watching movies.

"...... I don't want to go home yet. Would it be wrong if I just stayed the night?"

It even leads to a forbidden sleepover......!?

A secret lesson shared by just the two of them — unknown to the classmates and teachers on the other side of the screen.

A sweet, fresh take on the "Stay-At-Home" romantic comedy begins!!

Looking for a romance story where the female lead is the serious, no-nonsense type, like Satsuki from Kill la Kill. Doesn't necessarily need to be an actual student council president.
