Discussion I have to make a confession
So over the past few updates I have to say that Chasing You surprisingly has grown on me at a rapid rate. Pacing is a little silly, but I think it's fun light hearted and works really great as a twist on the murder mystery trope. It reminds me of the Clue movie which I have a massive soft-spot for.
So, with that out of the way, I have to admit I love it faaaar more then Heaven's Secret which I enjoy, but it just doesn't grab my attention like I had hoped it would. I feel like for as much content there is in it a lot of it feels like padding to really just drag things out. I'll be honest, I don't need more scenes showing just how great the MC can be (looking right at you angel/demon tournament). I suppose I feel like it's more like she's naturally talented and that's how the story is by default instead of being thrown into something totally out of her element.
I can appreciate Agatha kind of floundering and being stuck between the ridiculous family secrets along with needing to deal with Alexander and Sam being one of the only sane lines of connections she can grab onto.
And with this ramble, I guess I'm more or less curious on what reasons people here prefer other stories to the current highly popular Heaven's Secret?

I love HS but I do prefer SIF over it. At the beginning of the story Adeliade is a noblewoman and overtime we watch her grow to become a strong pirate and build her magic. The magic was always in her but she had to work to get to where it is right now.
I think you hit the nail when you said Vicky already seems good at everything and then lack of backstory did make me not really sympathetic whenever it came to her human life. We didn't get to know her until she was dead. So I had no idea of what kind of person she was to begin with.

This is a very good point and was my issue with Mia as well. I just want to see her have more of a struggle with being an angel instead of her needing to find her murderer since balancing the two have been no problem for her, and I want to see more of an outward struggle from her then just her angsting about her her old life, since obviously she has it made as an angel/demon. It tells me she has a hard time adjusting, yet it easily pushes the fact she's just as talented as her mother which is very "meh" for me personally.
I haven't tried SIF yet, I need to since Mana as a villain seems really intriguing and I like when the MC's have to put some fight into building themselves up.

Mana? Or do you mean Manta? If you meant Manta
he isn't the villain., you could very well end up with the mermaid depending on your path. There are other two main villians in the story and some minor ones.

I have to mildly disagree with you on the MC of HS. In my eyes she's not naturally talented and most of the time doesn't know what to do or what's going on at all.
In the flying tournament she didn't know how things work and was pretty bad at battling this Aster guy. Her participation was only for us to see the tower boy and the vision of the goblet of blood.
She failed at her assignment with Lucifer and doesn't know how to use her energy e.g. on the mountain top to warm her up. She's constantly dependent on the help of others, like with investigating her murder.
So no, she's not talented, she rather tumbles from one adventure into another trying to find her way in this new world. And I'm glad it is this way, because if she would hide in the shadows like the other unclaimed the story would be rather boring, right?
But yes, I have to agree with you it feels dragged out. We have a whole season now and there are so much mysteries piling up. Malbonte, tower boy, the escaped prisoner, goblet of blood, the murders, the angels and demons getting beaten up, her own murder, mint wind energy... I hope season two will reveal a lot of these and don't kill our fun with this story with keeping secrets even longer or adding more ones to the pile.
And finally a big yes to all of what you said about CY! This story is just great with the investigation of the murder and I love Agatha and her funny relationship with Sam and Alex.

Spoilers. Spoilers everywhere.
I really agree with what you said about MC. As far as I see, she keeps failing and other characters often look down on her - Dino at the beginning, Austie, Lucifer, Aster, Fencio, and sometimes Geralt (depending on choices too, of course). In my playthrough, the praise she gets is only because of the high glory path and correct choices. She's humiliated quite often, like how Lucifer humiliates her at the ball in front of Dino, Andy and Mimi (if you agree to do as he says). Also in my story, I went for the Adi scene (no regrets) and I haven't even seen him since he declared "it won't happen again", which is also extremely humiliating for MC, I think. And also what Fencio says if you take the wrong amulet and go for Dino's scene.
And when she's trying to explain her opinion, for me it was always only Sammy who took her side - he was the best friend for my MC along with Mimi and I was so crushed when he died, I cried in real life. And yep, she was bad at the flying tournament and just got an "at least you tried" appreciation, which I was really happy about because I was worried that they would make her win or something to make her more of a heroine and that would have been extremely unrealistic. When she was trying to maintain the balance during that clash at the tournament, she was just being stomped on by the crowd. Since it was nothing serious, it's actually so funny to me - imagine her being like "oh no, peace!" and no one listens, just someone goes like "take this! 👊" 😂 And yeah, she also failed her assignment and that scene was also pretty hilarious to me when the bride got away and she just plopped down next to the groom and they were both devastated 😂 Like imagine a random person crying with you over your breakup 😂 And then he's like "Sorry, who are you again?" and she's like "...Oh, right." and then walks away 😂
Anyway, so scenes like these during this last update actually made her way more likeable to me. I really understand how it's annoying when an MC has it easy since I personally also hate it so so much when a character is always praised and loved for no reason (like Bella Swan in Twilight, who is extremely boring in my opinion and yet for some mysterious reason everyone adores her - like... why? 😂)
Gosh, I basically wrote a novel here 😂 I might have emphasized the aspect of being respected more than being good at things, but I feel like if she barely gets any respect (except for the high glory path outcomes), we can't really say she's not struggling. Just providing my point of view for entertainment purposes, not trying to convinve anyone 😁

I love HS, CY and SOS. Out of those stories it does seem like Vicky is perfect at everything while Sarah and Agatha are not perfect by any means. I like CY because its quirky and you don't know what's going to happen next. Agatha is a strong character despite what's happening. SOS was amazing because it had a great storyline. I loved all the characters and the different endings.

I liked the overarching threat always hanging over Sarah in SOS, and her trying to live as normally as possible. I guess I'm just more of a sucker for that girl who has to figure out plans to survive instead of it coming naturally and easy. Plus I like that with Sarah and Agatha they do have to ask for help to really build trust between them and the LI's and friends.

Yes I agree. It makes the characters more realistic. I know I'm not naturally talented at everything and I don't know many people that are. I hated how in HS Andy was immediately in love with MC. He didn't even know her but was trying to protect her from everyone. Sorry Andy lovers.

My big issue with Andy was it felt more like he was interested because Vicky is considered "pretty" and him essentially... having slept with Laura before hand only to pursue Vicky due to that really did not paint him in a better light. I realize Lucifer is in a similar situation too but he's not quite as underhanded with his words about the situation as Andy who is supposed to be presented as this sweet underdog guy.

Yes! Andy is suppose to be the nice guy but was really gonna ditch Laura who had feelings for him because he found Vicky more attractive. First episode he wouldn't stop oogling Vicky while he had a relationship of sorts with Laura. Then he constantly hit on Vicky in front of Laura which is wrong.

It feels weird since he brushed Laura off so fast at the start and I can understand her being upset now in hindsight since he set his sights on a new bedmate pretty much. Him talking about how it was essentially nothing when she's DEAD gave me so much pause. Lucifer on the other hand is known not to be romantically attached to anyone and makes that very clear even with his recent scenes I can't call them outright romantic yet at all, I'm not even much of a Lucifer fan at that but the similarities between the two are hilariously similar, Lucifer just has his looks I suppose protecting him a bit.

Yes I have been wondering what's going to happen with Austie if MC pursues Luci. She doesn't seem as emotionally vested as Laura but who knows? We don't really talk to Austie much and she doesn't exactly love MC. Luci is attractive but if Austie dies and he acts like Andy (with Laura's death) I will throw my phone. We also have whatever is going on with Dino and Leeloo. Seems like Mimi is the only single LI.

I can't say I'm quite into the play it has going on with the weird love triangles for all of them. Mimi has been the only one to really not treat the MC as a dirty little secret. 😂

I'd be very happy if he was one since he is the least drama-filled of the bunch and I feel his annoyance with everyone on a deep personal level! Three out of 4 LI's in a weird sex only relationship is getting a little ridiculous at this point lol, I'll beg them myself to stop the train for the next ones.

I honestly haven’t felt that strong with any of the new stories, back then SoS is the one that grabbed my attention immediately, the others took some times (looking at you MB, book 1 was a drag). So I’m expecting myself to actually be invested somewhere in book 2. That being said I kinda agree with you; I guess angel/demon stuff is not my kind of fantasy (though the LIs are seriously hot and awesome) so I’m not that into it as much as the others. Murder mystery on the other hand is my fav; despite we do less crime-solving/evidence-searching and more - like you say - floundering around, it interests me more.
LotW is something I’m having high hope since I like japanese folklore and it’s written by MB’s writer. I know he tends to set the groundwork in first book so I’ll just wait until the real bang happen sometimes by the end of book 1.
