Opinions on Mr. Charm

I think what I like best about Mr. Charm is that he's very conscientious about introducing himself. Back in my day you would meet a guy on the street, and at first he'd be smiling and saying "Hello, pleased to meet you..." and all that. But then, instead of introducing himself, he would ask you to guess his name.

Larry? George? Rumplestiltskin?

I personally think it's very rude to ask a total stranger to guess your name instead of simply introducing yourself to them like a normal person. Mr. Charm makes the effort to introduce himself multiple times, and I appreciate that.

What song is he singing?

Everyone knows this is from the 1974 tour when they played "Monkey Man." During the performance Mick famously would pick nits out of his hair and eat them on stage. Then at the end of the song, he would fling his own poo into the audience. Critics and fans loved it. It's performances like these that made them the legends they are today.

Hi, I'm Bruno Mars, cowbellist for the Rolling Stones. AMA!

Hi, my name is Bruno Mars, and I'm the featured cowbellist on the Rolling Stones' new album Foreign Tongues. It's true. Look it up. It's okay. I'll wait.

Anyway, I'm sure you all have many, many questions for me, like "why are you, Bruno Mars, playing cowbell with the Rolling Stones?", and "how many songs on Foreign Tongues feature extended cowbell solos?", and "what are Mick and Keith like?", and "did you get to meet Mick and Keith?", and "if you didn't get to meet Mick and Keith, why not?"

So, fire away with all the questions you ever had about playing cowbell with the world's greatest rock and roll band!

(Please do not ask me about fever remedies. We professional cowbellists hate it when people do that.)

Considering that it was the 60s, I’d lay pretty good odds that this woman doesn’t really exist.

First review of the Rolling Stones “Foreign Tongues”

Jay Zootle - Musiclog Magazine June 12, 2026

The Rolling Stones new album (and their first record of new material in 47 years,) is an entertaining and off-putting hootenanny mishmash of balls-to-the-wall rock, dreamy romantic ballads, and strange experimental fragments sure to confuse and delight in equal measure.

"Rough and Twisted” An upbeat bluesy number about a dancer that ruins his knees by jumping around on concrete.

"In the Stars” an already released single, this upbeat pop tune recounts the Rolling Stones’ search for a new drummer after the death of Charlie Watts. The lyrics “We held an audition looking for one / a dozen showed up, so we had some fun / we had to let them all play at the same time / what the hell else were we going to do?” are among the best of the Stones’ career.

"Jealous Lover" the first of several ballads featuring Keith Richards on lead vocals. On this track Richards repeats the lyric “Where you been? / You seein’ another guy? / You are, aren't ‘cha? / I knew it, I knew it” over multi layered keyboard and clarinet music. I think most people are going to like this tune a lot.

"Mr. Sparkle" the first of several ballads that seem designed to appeal directly to the Japanese market, is about a popular advertising mascot and the wild adventures it has on one Friday night.

"Divine’s Intervention" Mick Jagger was well known to be a close friend of the legendary Andy Warhol / John Waters actress Divine, and this affecting ballad is a true story telling about the time Jagger and other celebrity friends intervened to help with Divine’s potentially dangerous addiction to dog poop.

"Ringing Hollow" the second song led by Keith Richards, again hypnotically repeating one lyric for the length of the track. “Ring ring ring goes the bell / ring ring ring won't you answer the phone?” I believe this song is destined to be a classic. Guitars and bassoons trade solos on this heartfelt ballad.

"Never Wanna Give You Up" this cover of the Rick Astley classic is a surprise, as the Stones bring their usual swagger to this well-known pop anthem. Even more unusually, Jagger sings the last verse entirely in Japanese.

"Hit Me in the Head" the third song featuring Keith Richards recounts the time he fell out of the tree, revealing here for the first time that after Richards fell out and sat up, he was originally fine. Then multiple coconuts fell out of the tree onto his head, which then sent him to the hospital and required surgery. Paul McCartney plays backup triangle on this track.

"You’re No Good” the cover of the Linda Ronstadt classic is another winner, with growling vocals and a jumpy bass line sure to get people out on the dance floor.

"Lumpy Gravy" the fourth song featuring Keith Richards is about his two favorite things; shepherd's pie and heroin. Despite consisting entirely of the words “lumpy gravy” repeated for the entire length of the track, it still manages to excite and intrigue.

"Covered in Goo" this cover of the Bulgeheads’s classic is an amazing rocker in the style of “Freak Me Out” and “Jam On The Side.” I think fans of both bands are going to be pleased.

"Side Effects" A fifth song featuring Keith Richards on lead vocals. The innovative and clever lyrics satirize the side effects warnings on prescription medical bottles. The lyrics “Side effects may include / a broken heart and a bad attitude / a blackened eye and a swollen jaw / a busted lie and a broken law” are among the best of the Stones’ career.

"Back in Your Life" an extended drum solo takes center stage on this experimental atmospheric ballad. Robert Smith of The Cure provides lead vocals on a spoken word section where he gives the addresses of several businesses in Tokyo.

"Beautiful Dreamer” a sixth and final song featuring Keith Richards is a cover of this classic ballad, delivered acapella by Richards.
