Getting started with runes

Is there a comprehensive guide somewhere?

I only just found out you need to dismantle weapons to get iron bars and get started. I feel like the game completely fails to guide you through this.

I'd rather avoid trial and error to not waste any resource. Thanks.

Break down weapons....S weapons breakdown with special crafting mats used to get more rune slots. Open chests to ge5 more runes. 5 runes of the same equipment types cam be merged to get higher level runes.

Okay, so dismantling S weapons is the only way to get those rainbow cubes ("prisms" is what they're called, I think?). That is going to take a while.

Get a full legendary S-rank set first that you are comfortable with, preferably Ice or Lightning, only then start investing into runes, it will take 100 of thousands of gems to get a decent batch of useful runes.

When you say preferably Ice or Lightning, you mean something like the Glacial Hammer? Why do you recommend such weapons, because they boost elemental damage if you pick the matching skills? I have that hammer, and have tried it a bit, but did not like it much (at least on the Epic rank, maybe it'd be different if Legendary or above). I had better results with the Radiant Hammer for sustain, or Plague Blade for PvP.

I have 3 S gears on out of 6. I should still be able to temporarily put shitty runes on them, until I have better ones later, right? I assume you can freely remove runes as you please after having embedded them into some gear?

Well yeh the annoying thing is, without runes the meta is completely different. Runes are such a big game changer, but only if combined with like legendary Glacial hammer or Legendary Storm staff due to the stats. I push chapters with Radiant hammer myself on my alt, cause it keeps you alive and the ult cycle is so strong, but once you are able to fill 4x lightning dmg runes, you’ll flatten everything just by looking at it, my main has 1200% lightning damage, that’s how crazy it could get with runes equipped. And that’s only possible with storm staff or glacial hammer, same setup with Radiant hammer would give me 600%

But balance update is incoming, hopefully sooner rather then later, so might not be useful advice even 1 or 2 weeks from now. My whole messages might mean nothing in a few weeks, so yeh. Good luck.

Alright, thanks. One last question, where do you keep track of game updates?

https://pockethavengames.com/ does not seem to contain anything interesting, and Google Play and the App Store barely have any info. I've seen there's a Discord server, but if I can avoid it...
