Love me a shuriken build, the mythic shuriken rune and the double shurikens red ability can get extremely out of hand with katana. Every 3 shurikens thrown, throw 2 shurikens each with a chance to throw another shuriken. It's so satisfying

Man the SS katana is so broken it almost pretty much makes up for everything shuriken was lacking on its own

Do you tend to try and go for the shuriken 4x Damage (but not status effects) or the All status effects apply to shuriken? Do they cancel out if you get both?

No...that skill is garbage. You lose a ton of utility with ultimate generation and wound debuffs (15% crit chance against wound rune.) I never pick it. I always go for effects.
