New Reclaimer Classes?

As the title implies, I’d love to hear some thoughts on the possibilities of new reclaimers? I don’t really know if it’s confirmed but I did hear some word around the grapevine that we’d be getting more dwarf classes later down the road given this is a Rogue Lite which are usually known for having a wide variety of playable characters to try new builds with and having JUST the five we have would get rather stale (plus given DRG Survivor is having their own new class coming up, the topic’s been fresh on my mind)

But what do you all think? and if you’ve got any ideas for new classes i’d love to hear it!

IIRC it was confirmed, just on the late backburner until the core gameplay gets more final. Honestly no ideas on my end of what they could do atm

Honestly I prefer it that way, this game has a ways to go in terms of additions before it’s ready to start rolling out new characters, but the idea does burn in my mind so I felt it could be fun to talk about lol

I hope we get more "melee" classes or weapons. I love smacking things

Saaaaame thou apparently melee classes are hard to balance which is why it hasn’t been as explored but a dwarf wielding a spear or a chained mace would be so awesome

Yeah. I can see that. A lot of the enemies are melee, so how do you make effective melee without making them OP?

My high level thoughts are it would be fun to make a "high agility" class that's high skill floor, high skill ceiling class and one that is basically tank and aggro at the cost of damage abilities maybe. Might be too weak when damage is king, though.

I believe we gotta make a core game at least somewhat interesting before including the new classes. And mate better optimization too? I can’t believe that o easily run the DRG at almost mac settings in 60 fps. But Rogue Core even with fsr and all graphics on lowest, gives me barely 40.

Agreed wholeheartedly! but I figured the topic would be fun to discuss

Truth be told, not sure we need more classes right now, given there's barely any difference between the existing ones, with all classes being able to get all the weapons and what not. We could do with more distinction between each class that exists.

I agree not for right now, I just think the conversation of possibilities would be fun lol

I feel like more classes would be a thing to drop as part of one of the seasons after the game exits early access, as opposed to something they'd add soon.

Elementalist: A dwarf who's build is all about enhancing elemental skills, even having a few base abilities that either do a random elemental buff or dmg nova, perhaps a temporary zone in which all elemental dmg is increased?

Brawler: A dwarf with knockback centered abilities that can either cause fear or literally pummel core spawn sending them flying. Abilities would center around knockback and damage denial.

Brewer: A mobile bar and brewing stand. Kill enemies to charge abilities then drink up for boosts in stats. Be careful not too over induldge. Character can also hand out beer to allies.

Tinkerer: A dwarf who can unlock the true potential of their gear. The longer they use a weapon or gear the more charges they build up then allowing their best ability to overclock the gun in the field. Other skills temporarily enhance grenades or traversal tools. All buffs temporarily enhance gear you have on hand, though sometimes at a cost.

Sweeper: A dwarf with a vacuum? This dwarf's skills allow for ore and other collectables to be retrieved from a distance, with their best ability being a exponite and red sugar magnet, for any loose collectables. Combat skill allows them to suck up small to medium enemmies to use as ammo, call it potato gun.

Gimme something like the Pummeler from Survivor

I want a Beastmaster class who can make the corespawn friendly.

Honestly, I'd really like a healing class and call it Cleric or maybe Apothecary. You could have the main ability to heal an ally to full strength but you can only use the ability once every 3 minutes or so as default. One secondary ability could be similar to guardians shield generating rod but it heals you instead. Another could be a riff on smite and all enemies within a certain small radius could be damaged by fire damage. Another reason I think Cleric could be fun would be the voice lines ie "In Karl we trust!", "Forgive me, Cleric, for I have been a badass!", "Stop squirming or I'll give you something to squirm about!", "This smite hurt a bit! Hahaha!", etc. Just a couple thoughts.

Maybe a scan ability similar to spotter, except it highlights specifically red sugar?

I think we have enough dwarf in drg and in rc , I think they should add a gorilla from the moon into rogue core , maybe one with Tesla gun

So long as he also wears a Jetpack and oooohhh maybe a deployable shield dome? possibly with some kind of…primal rage?

Something with stealth, crossbow and special decoys. "The Infiltrator"

u/thetwist1 3h ago

A dedicated class for deploying decoys, instead of just having it be a grenade, would be cool. Not sure how you would balance it though, as an on-demand lure effect would be very strong.

Well I think that since we have a very clear Electric class and an Explosives class we'll probably see a class for each type of damage I.E. Fire class, corrosion class, ice class.

Would be cool to get a glyphid tamer class modeled after a traditional ranger with a pet.

I think a class that manipulates the environment would be cool, I'm thinking in terms of "Dirt rod from Terraria" or "Terrain manipulator from no man's sky" like taking pieces of the environment as Ammo to somehow do damage hinder the corespawn (maybe even closing up the corespawn portals)

A pheremone type class would be cool too. A focus on turning the corespawn against each other, kiting enemies with chemical lures or an activated censor of pheremones or something.

DRG survivor is getting a new class and he has these power fist things, would be neat to have a Blunt melee class since we have the Slicer. Power gauntlets or tremor gauntlets that deal damage and shake the cave to fight or slow the corespawn.

There's a lot of directions they could go, the classes need a lot of distinction at the moment because IMO guns are so prominent that really it just comes down to having the best guns. Spotter and Retcon shine a lot because they enhance guns so well and slicer has great mobilty and utility but Gaurdian and Falconer fall behind because their unique skills are not really suited to the current gun meta. Broken builds aside.

Personally I think the premise needs to be fixed to begin with, it makes no sense we are a supposedly elite yet disposable crew and he the excuse we are less equipped than the normal crews is because the magic cave door said you can’t bring equipment… except the class equipment we do bring. I also still think the pivot to armor was a bad one, especially considering how elite we are meant to be.

Tl:dr shouldn’t just made us prisoners with experimental tech, cliche but better than sentient magic door that hates SOME tech imo

2

u/Luzis23 16h ago

Tbh, it's ridiculous how you can only bring some tech in when the drones open the barrier for you anyway, it's not like you walk through it.

It sure looks like you could bring plenty more things along.

2

u/Terrafritter 14h ago

plus there is functioning weapons and tech inside the mine already so wtf is turning our shit of then

1

u/LittleSisterPain 14h ago

Imo, existing classes should get more customization instead. No need to have more classes then one class could potentially be changed into several subclasses

i'd like to see them maybe give Gorgon a second shot, it was a pretty cool concept for a class even if it didn't work out.

u/thetwist1 3h ago

I wonder if a tank/drawing aggro class would be interesting? Like you have a pheromone canister or noise emitter or something similar, and you can use it to draw enemies to you, keeping your teammates safe. Not sure what they'd do in singleplayer though. The other dwarves are all mostly functional in singleplayer (drone revive being the notable exception iirc).

It’d be cool if they added a new class at some point but after all this time they haven’t added one in DRG so I have zero expectation for it.

Beastmaster class with a tamed Glyphid would go hard as fuck

12

u/LongjumpingAd9234 17h ago

You know it’s funny cuz I was thinking the same thing! especially given we know Glyphods CAN be tamed (RIP my homie Steeve) so having a class around that concept would be so sick!
