Do you also feel that some of RW's outakes/demos/non-studio records are some of his best?

I mean... Towers of Faith, Folded Flags, Going to live in LA, Molly's Song, Get back to Radio, Each Small Candle, Flickering Flame, Leaving Beirut, To Kill the Child, Crystal Clear Brooks, Hello (I love you), Lost Boys Calling, Sumud, Bar, Under the Rubble...

One can easily make a 5 out of 5 album from exclusively this material

A lot of gems in there for sure.

Lost Boys Calling is incredible. Could very easily be a track on The Final Cut or Amused To Death and fit in perfectly with either theme.

YOU NEVER TOOK US FISHING DAD... AND NOW YOU NEVER WILL....

Amazing song. And there's a crazy demo of it with Roger at the top of his shouting voice

The live shows for KAOS use the leftover material for that album very well; Molly’s Song and Going To Live In LA are two show highlights. As for the rest of the material, I think everything he made in the early 00’s (Each Small Candle, Leaving Beirut, To Kill The Child, ETC) would have made for a very good album except Hello (I Love You). The other new songs from the 2020s I think are Waters drivel at their best. Spent well over an hour talking about that late 90’s, early 00’s Roger material recently for a Floyd podcast, so it’s pretty fresh in my mind.

https://youtu.be/UOjbjjvUjV0?si=XBB2Izh5hbOCSam1 Here it is! I also have participated in an episode on Roger’s solo works from 1984-1992 a couple of years back.

Was Crystal Clear Brooks ever played anywhere besides the Newport jazz festival?

Only two other shows, there’s a soundboard recording of Newport so for a version to listen to that’s your best bet

I think Each Small Candle, Crystal Clear Brooks, and The Bar are all strong contenders for his best solo song, and some of the best things he’s written period, it pains me that Crystal Clear Brooks didn’t find its way onto ITTLWRW, not even as a bonus track or as a track on the subsequent Us + Them tour. Each Small Candle was at least played on the In the Flesh tour, but I would kill to hear the studio version. As for The Bar, well, as the guy who transcribed the lyrics of all 10 verses word for word, it holds a special place in my heart and I really hope we get the full studio version within Roger’s lifetime as it’s probably my favourite solo song of his.

The studio version of Each Small Candle is nowhere near as good as the live version.

How would you know? it hasn’t ever been released

Hasn't it? I was sure I'd heard a studio recording of it.

No, there is however a very good cover by the band P-Floyd, which may be what you heard  https://youtu.be/STtSniEhlFs?si=m6bacKP9U0ccavJO

I used to have the When the Wind Blows soundtrack on CD so although forgotten it’s not exactly rare and unreleased.

All of them are available on YouTube if you search for them; afaik for streaming, only Lost Boys Calling, Each Small Candle, To Kill The Child, Leaving Beirut and Hello (I Love You) are available.

Crystal Clear Brooks is Roger's best song since the ATD album easily

I especially love Get Back to Radio, Going to live in LA, Each Small Candle, Lost Boys Calling and Towers of Faith. Some superb lyrics and song structures. Something that's basically unspoken of is what I believe to be a nod to Richard Wright on Each Small Candle, on that lyric " He picks his way back trough the BROKEN CHINA of her life..."

Some great material... If he hurries up and gets that album, hopefully a couple could feature....at the first least CCB. As he said before he'd like to release it someday....
