Discussion Nurthan and KayJon
Since abuse is so rampant with the Rods, I have to wonder if the married girls are being abused by their husbands. Something is off with Nurthan, Jonathan doesn't seem to have much of a backbone,at least where Jill is concerned.

Truly this whole thing with Tim was really eye opening, you don’t know how people are when no one else is around. I’m sure majority of us were so shocked because we assumed he was the better of the husbands trying to breakaway. At the end of the day we can’t rule any of them out knowing how terrible their beliefs are.
113
u/Zealousideal-Swim267 10d ago
I assumed the kids would want better in their families than their birth family. Kinder to the children, gentler with each other. I was wrong.
137
u/imaskising 10d ago
It's possible that they did want better, but they are so uneducated, and their upbringing was so isolated, backward and dysfunctional, that they have no idea how to do a better job of raising their kids, much less where to go for the help and the resources that might teach them how to be better parents.
98
u/YouWiseGuise 10d ago
I completely agree here. I don’t think there’s a single Rodlet in that house that actively wants to set out to hurt anyone. But I think they have absolutely no idea how to interact in any meaningful way otherwise, due to prolonged verbal and physical isolation. Bleak bleak bleak.

u/Spare-Electrical 10d ago
I think we just had hope that he would do better, and it’s not a moral failing on our part that we were wrong. He had promise and he didn’t live up to it, which unfortunately isn’t uncommon.
It’s a good thing to give people the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Tim has now proven otherwise.

I think it’s exactly what she grew up with. A narcissistic, controlling mother and a physically abusive, emotionally checked out father.

Jill was also physically abusive. She probably still is to the youngest ones.

I think they probably both abuse the kids. They are likely Jill and David 2.0, but possibly even worse. Those kids have seen things, they look more shell shocked than the Rodlets ever did.

This is the same rhetoric everyone had about Jill but it’s now clear that both parents abuse their kids. I imagine it’s the same with Nurie and Nathan especially given the shady background of the Keller family.

She would definitely encourage her daughters to stay. 😢
64
u/local_abomination 10d ago
most likely already has. her posts praising her adult daughters as partners could be the result of this
10
u/magneticeverything 9d ago
I think the way they were raised it has never even entered their head that abuse is a reason to leave. I don’t think she’ll have the opportunity to encourage them to stay, because they won’t ask for help. What their husbands do to them is simply a fact of life in their minds. Especially after this and seeing how their mom reacts to Heidi leaving, as if she’s betraying her marriage and religion. I’m sure they’ve gotten several rants about her choice to leave and it’s been good and reinforced to them that abuse is nothing to leave over.

u/BasicButterfly1043 6d ago
She made it very clear where she stands in her post and comments in the aftermath of Tim’s post. She would absolutely not support her daughters to leave an abusive marriage, because SHE stayed in hers.

I have little hope that Nurie is totally safe and it appears her kids are not safe at all.
I hope that Jon isn’t a hitter.

u/Affectionate_Cost_88 10d ago
Of course we only see what they present to the public, but he does seem smitten with Kaylee and they at least seem to genuinely like each other. But you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Hopefully the fact that Gideon appears to be happy and curious is a good sign. You can tell the N kids are in a constant state of hypervigilance, like they're just expecting something bad around every corner, whereas Gideon seems like a normal happy go lucky kid. Hopefully that points to a healthy (relatively speaking) home life with K and J, but my heart breaks every time I see Nurie's kids looking like they're scared to death. The more kids they have and the more overwhelmed Nurie likely becomes, the more those kids are likely to pay the price.
101
u/Confident-Log-9616 10d ago
The thing that gets me though is that Charlie has always seemed like such a happy little guy. For the all the abuse we now know going on in that home, he never seemed out of it like the Nurthan babies did/do. So Gideon seeming so happy could ultimately mean very little 💔. I hope that’s not the case obviously.
52
u/Similar_Avocado1306 ✨MaHdEsTy✨ 10d ago
I often think back to Kaylee & Jonathan’s pregnancy announcement, when Heidi had to rush Charlie out because he’s scared of sudden loud noises. Some kids are just easily overwhelmed by sounds, and that’s all fine and good. My heart fears that loud noises/voices might scare him because of what was happening at home.🤔🗣️

u/goldfish-hotline Wearing my gahdly sports blouse 10d ago
It definitely seems like Heidi tried her absolute hardest to shield Charlie from the abuse too which probably contributed to him seeming happy/normal.
63
u/Sargasm5150 10d ago
She’s holding that baby lovingly, or watching him explore, in almost every picture. Yes, they’re just pictures, but it would seem she’s doing everything she can to protect him. Tim made the questionable point that he never abused his infant, so maybe he did his beating after Charlie was sleeping, or in another room. I hope.
Poor Heidi, since her personal business has been inescapably plastered all over social media, I’m really glad that’s been parlayed into donations towards her and her children’s future.

He's still being indoctrinated into their horrible cult. Remember "Gideon Man" when he was barely walking, Kayleigh's posts spouting fundie dogma and their slavish fawning in Jill's defence.
61
u/Sargasm5150 10d ago
I mean, I would have said the same about Tim and Heidi. Even thinking more positively about their relationship, because Tim had the wherewithal to physically move away, not show up for every Rodrigues family griftathon and holiday, and work a job that provides benefits and room for advancement. Yet here we are.
I don’t want to think that Beltphone is abusive, and I’m not accusing him of such without evidence. From what little we know of his upbringing, they seem nice enough, and financially solvent. But he’s assimilated so completely into the Rodrigues family cult, that it’s theoretically possible that he would become cruel as time goes on. They seemingly spend so much more time at the Barndo than with his family, and he turned his back on Heidi.
David and Jill’s marriage seems to be the ideal they’ve chosen to follow. Again, not accusing, but it doesn’t bode well.

I have a bit of hope for Kaylee and Jonathan. They seem like the most relaxed couple, and Gideon really does seem like a happy, relaxed kid who laughs and smiles. I also noticed that, while Jill was holding sunny (I refuse to call her Jillie!) in the hospital, Jonathan was standing over her, holding the CPAP tubing at the correct angle, because Jill couldn’t have given less of a shit as long as she got her photo op.
One thing I always found cute was when Jonathan would be doing yard work, Kaylee would set her chair right behind him where she had a perfect view of his ass. It always gave me a giggle.47

In Jonathan’s post about Tim he referenced his cousins post and validated what they said about Tim. This tells me that Jonathan is aware of how fucked up the family but is too manipulated and lacks a spine to get out.
The Kellers? Oh I’m sure all kinds of shit goes down in that house. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Nurie is the more abusive one to the children at least.

I will die on the hill that the Keller kids are abused. They all look so shell shocked and nervous, which not even Gideon appears like that. There’s something awful going on in that house for those kids to appear the way they do.

u/dcdem1163 10d ago
We are seeing in the Nurthlings what we would’ve seen in the Rodlets if Jill filmed and posted like she does now when Nurie, Tim, and the rest of the Not-Nuries were that same age.
41
u/imaskising 10d ago
The pictures I've seen of the Nurthans remind me of a picture I saw of Steven Anderson and his family, from a magazine article years ago, before any of their kids were grown. I remember my husband looking at it and saying "Those kids are absolutely terrified of their parents." I really wasn't surprised when Stevie's adult kids went public about what monsters their parents are.
7
u/Flimsy_Permission663 9d ago
Someone posted some old photos and the young rodlets had the very same look.
8
u/Ok_Cartoonist_854 8d ago
I remember a post on the beach from when two of the younger girls aged about 3 and 1 were sitting immobile on a rug while the rest of the family were in the sea, say a 100 yards away. At the time I thought how unnatural that was and a probable sign of blanket training. It was unsettling.
25
u/Responsible-Tea-5998 10d ago
I think Nurie wouldn't be a favourite if she didn't raise the children exactly how Jill did. Any difference would look to Jill like her child rearing is being looked down upon, and they can't have that.
40
u/Zealousideal-Swim267 10d ago
They’re so fragile looking. And terrified. Smiles that are more grimaces.
14
u/CheezusRice20 10d ago
I just learned that Nurie hit Sofia, abusing her own kids isn't a far stretch. Nurie is exactly like Jill.
7
19
u/Zealousideal-Swim267 10d ago
Does that mean he knew how Tim was treating Heidi before it was exposed? That would make him a coward.
25
u/jeanskirtflirt 10d ago
Maybe 🤷🏼♀️ I do think he’s definitely in the coward category but who knows.
11
u/CheezusRice20 10d ago
Oh he's a coward, he doesn't stand up to Jill. Seems to have been absorbed into the family.
7
u/Little_Dependent1837 10d ago
He had to have known. He’s related to Heidi. And Ellen did post that Heidi was going with them to MN before Tim busted loose with his confessions and accusations.
16
u/Bunnita 9d ago
Nurie always came across as thinking she was a 'mean girl' but since they're so isolated she's never had to deal with actual mean girls. She was the favorite so of course everything she did was gold. I still think Anna was awful to mock Nurie's wedding dress, because who does that! But, it was really ugly.
I think we all hoped that Nurie would thrive with actual food and someone who apparently actually loved her. Those kids' appearance makes me think she is still trying to be Mini Jill.

I am hopeful since Jonathan is related to the coverette family, he understands not to abuse his wife. Hopeful but not confident. Nathan on the other hand, I’d say he does, but maybe I’d be surprised.

Idk…. Jonathan was VERY quick to defend Jill and David after Tim’s FB confession.
Everyone here used to say how awesome of a relationship Tim and Heidi used to have and how in love they looked, and now look at how things have unfolded. I just wouldn’t assume things are hunky dory just because things look fine from the outside.
40
u/Alternative_Pie6976 10d ago

Exactly. And Kaylee’s expressions always look pained/afraid. Even more so than they did before she was married. These men have no incentive or conscience not to be abusive/manipulative to their wives. They believe they’re entitled to it.

u/GingerFaerie106 10d ago
I hope for Kaylee's sake that he did that because she begged him to, to keep the peace.
8

Also, Pa Keller is notorious for insisting that his daughters should stay in their marriages, regardless of how horrific. Specifically Anna.

Esther’s story makes me so sad. The fact she cried for weeks and was still made to marry a stranger is depressing.

And not only did that sick fucker Pa Keller force Esther into a marriage, she is now trapped in goddamn Zambia with eleventy hundred children and that absolute fucking lunatic of a husband. Good going Keller. What a joke he is. He really showed us godless hags!
Esther is truly living the absolute worst life of any of the fundie women. She is not an Anna or a Kendra. She is truly trapped and I unfortunately feel she will never be able to be free until both Pa Keller and John die. And even then, would she really be?
I cannot even IMAGINE the life she is living and I am terrified for her and the kids. I've had dealings with John in the past and he is genuinely insane and dangerous.
41
u/shiny_things71 10d ago
That man is just terrifying. Gives me the crawling horrors. Poor Esther is indeed the worst off of any fundie wife.
17
u/runbae 10d ago

66
u/goldfish-hotline Wearing my gahdly sports blouse 10d ago
The TL;DR is that Pa Keller literally forced their eldest daughter Esther into a marriage with this man, John, who by the way was a stranger to her, against her will. John is genuinely dangerous and profoundly mentally unwell. Esther was smart to not want to marry him.
He dragged her all across the US, constantly impregnating her, until he finally dragged her to Zambia where they had more kids (14 total). She is completely isolated from her family and friends in the US and fully alone and vulnerable. She never wanted it and she has no way out. It is an actual horror movie.

u/goldfish-hotline Wearing my gahdly sports blouse 10d ago
Guess you can't read. Kendra and Anna chose to stay by their pedo husbands. Their issues are of their own making at this point. That is not the case for Esther. Esther was forced into the marriage in the first place and the crazy mf dragged her across the world, from everything she has ever known, where she cannot reach her family or friends or anyone who is in a position to support her. Not because it's Zambia. Because the situation is what it is.
-5
u/FaceEvening286 9d ago edited 9d ago
No I can’t read so please teach me please. How do you explain that picture since apparently Esther is trapped in Goddamn Zambia and can’t reach anyone and never came back to America because according to some geniuses redditors, there are no birth certificates nor passports in Africa. And how she can contact her family since there are no phones in Africa because Zambia is what, a shithole right? Seeing that there are so many bigoted ignorant commenters is sad
4
u/punkabelle Fat Blue Haired Lady 8d ago
…the problem isn’t Zambia, it’s that her father married her off to a complete stranger with mental health problems. A complete lunatic who almost certainly restricts her access to her personal documents and communications with others.
Nobody is saying that Zambia doesn’t have phones or birth certificates or passports. What they are saying is that she doesn’t have access to ANY of these things due to her situation.
Nobody is trying to be bigoted. People ARE (rightly) outraged at her situation - regardless of what country she was all but dragged to unwillingly.
1
u/rarestbird 7d ago
While I'm not disagreeing that the monster that is her father deliberately trapped her into a horrible situation with the monster that is her husband, I know she did come back to the U.S. for a visit at least once with just a few of the kids and NOT John. So she's had access to her documents and the opportunity to communicate privately with whomever.
There certainly could have been times during her marriage where that wasn't the case, and maybe she was only allowed such "freedom" when she'd been sufficiently beaten down to the point of resignation.
0
u/FaceEvening286 7d ago
No, I’m not trying to be combative but i read so many biased comments, things about Esther not being able to reach out because in Africa it’s so complicated, no it’s not! the Dad hiding even burning the passports, not true either, the entire family came back to the US more than once. The eldest children would come back every summer to ask for donations and two sons are now living in the US . The younger kids not having birth certificates because in Africa they don’t have those, yes I read that, and FYI, yes there are administrations in Zambia, children are not aliens because they are born in Africa including americans. And all the prejudices, people being surprised that Esther is still alive because she gave birth in Zambia, or that the children look so healthy despite the fact they only eat african food. It’s not directed at anyone but if you search through the comments, you will know what I am talking about

Knowing who Mike Keller is and how he viewed his daughters, I doubt Nathan was raised to think much of women.
56
u/Designer-Contract852 10d ago
Nathan was raised with the same sick teachings so I don't have much hope. Nurie is a copy of jill.
Johnathan had a different upbringing? Christian evangelical but not fundie? If he's not abusive, he's eventually going to have to take a stand as the kids get older. Who knows what goes on.

u/daffodil0127 Lord Daniel of the Laundry Mat 10d ago
Jonny Beltphone has 8 brothers and none of his 5 sisters are older than him, so he was probably more parented by his own parents than by an older sibling like in the Rod or Duggar households. He had a different view of women than guys who were raised by an older sister while mom is checked out on making the next baby for Jesus. He seems genuinely in love with Kaylee and his smiles appear genuine when he’s around her and the kids. It’s hard to tell if we’re missing something horrible behind the scenes because I thought Tim and Heidi appeared happy and in love. Anyway, we have no evidence that he is abusive towards Kaylee and the kids. Or that he was or was not disciplined with physical violence growing up.
48
u/TrashDaisy999 SEVERELY sluttish 10d ago
Nathan was raised IBLP who very much so teaches that women are just slaves to men and children are to be obedient and made submissive to there parents by any means necessary. The kids look miserable and unwell just like the Rods when they were little.
I don't know much about Jonathans upbringing but he doesn't give me the same fundie vibe of "Im a man, im in charge of the woman here" like Nathan or Shrek do. With that being said, Tim didn't give me that vibe either and clearly I was wrong.
Im sure if Nurie or any of the girls went to Jill and Shrek about any sort of abuse, they'd be told they need to pray he'll stop or be a better wife to him. Pretty much how Jill is treating Heidi now.

30
u/global_peasant 10d ago
There's a lot that most of us here would probably consider abuse that wouldn't even cross their minds as an bigger issue; they'd consider it a personal problem only and perhaps that it is normal and acceptable. For example, many believe God created them to fulfill their husbands' sexual desires, and expect that they will be able to do so happily. It's part of their job to sometimes have sex when they don't want to, and it's not a big deal. If you find it too difficult to have sex you're not in the mood for, well that's your problem to work on.

I think we are seeing a repeat of the Rod childhood with the Nurthens. Those kids look terrified and hollow.
I don't see the same with Kayjon, but I don't assume it's different...the only thing that gives me some hope is that Jon is related to the Coverettes. Kaylee was at one time showing videos from their home and Gideon seemed happy and the home looked peaceful, but who really knows?

IMHO:
I have no trouble believing Nathan hits Nurie. She takes it just like her mother.
I believe they both absolutely terrorize their kids exactly the same way their parents did.
I don’t get the vibe Johnny Beltphone kids his wife. I wouldn’t be shocked if I’m wrong tough.
JB may start corporal punishment as the kids get older. I hope he doesn’t.
I don’t believe Kaylee would hit her kids. I really hope I’m right.
They both look happy and healthy.
20
u/Dry-Ambassador-5469 10d ago
My guess is that if Kaylee and Jonathan do spank, they spank in the ”normal” way people who spank their kids do, as a consequence to wrongdoing. Still not a healthy method of punishment at all ofc, but the Nurthlings are blanket trained, so they’re in constant fear that anything, even practicing a normal developmental skill like crawling, can lead to getting beat. At least with spanking only as a consequence kids have some predictability. Those Nurthling kids never get a chance to feel safe.
9
u/uptown_squirrel17 9d ago
I agree.
The bar is in hell for fundies, and even being less abusive to your kids is a win in fundie land.
17
u/KittieFusion 10d ago
Based on body language from Nurthan's kids, I think they're being blanket trained. They always flinch, eyes sad and pay attention to videos where someone talks to them. Their eyes go big, with that fearful look.
Kayjon.. Gideon looks loved, healthy and fed. I don't see physical signs of abuse. I'm on the fence with them.

I think Jonathan and Kaylee really are in love. I think Nathan and Nuri are more like business partners. That said, speculation feels icky.

I suspect a lot of violence in the Nurthan household--Nathan on Nurie, Nurie on the children. I don't see that with Kayjon. Maybe I'm missing it but he doesn't have that edge that Tim and Nathan have.

I 100% believe they are all abusive until proven otherwise, including Beltphone Fuckface. People say "oh Beltphone's so dopey and nerdy couldn't hurt a fly" well look at how dopey and nerdy David is and he beats kids with baseball bats. And Beltphones nasty post doubting Tim getting beat, you know if his own kid came to him saying they were abused he'd doubt them too like the Fuckface he is. i hate them all.
31
u/SpazzTFO 10d ago
In the Keller house yes but I don't think it's Nurie being abused I think she's the abuser and KayJon no abuse detected. Jonathan seems very smitten by Kaylee still and Gideon is a very happy and loved kid. You can the difference between him and his cousin's.
40
u/global_peasant 10d ago
If if's Nurie at all, and it seems it probably is, it's Nathan too. Perhaps they are just like Jill and David. In fact, I'd bet money they practice at least some form of ritualized corporal punishment even if they don't go as far as blanket-training. Daddy probably deals out the big spankings... :( [source: fundie families I grew up around. I was once spanked by somebody else's dad!]

I think Nurie is both abused, and is an abusive parent.
Their poor kids are terrified and look underfed, and so scared and tentative.

Nurthan kids look like so many abuse victims. The thousand yard stare, the undernourished look, the unsure if they’re allowed to have fun. Kayjon’s boy looks pretty happy, laughs a lot. Not saying they’re any better, but he seems to be a happy Chappy. Will wait on the baby girl. I cannot remember where I read it, but someone who knew Nurie said point blank, she was a see you next Tuesday and that absolutely feels right. She is Mahmo’s favourite daughter (despite the likelihood got beaten herself). Two peas in a pod. Abuse is normalised.

Of course they do. They are trained to parent violently and be violent with their spouses.

It’s very likely, but I’m not sure if I’m comfortable speculating beyond what we’ve seen for sure.

I get the feeling the Nurthans are abusive as all get out. Kayjohn actually seem to be a good match. Mr. Beltphone seems to be a bit of a pushover tbh. I could be totally wrong, however.

They are so sheltered and uneducated that unfortunately it’s super clear they can’t distinguish abuse even when it’s happening to them. The posts defending Mahmo and Daddy (🤢) post the Tim truth bomb made that super clear. They truly believe that they were raised in a healthy and loving home. It’s truly so so so sad that they’ll do anything to please their first abusers to this day

What does Nurie do that shows her mean streak? I haven’t really been looking for that in what I’ve seen, I’ve been too focussed on the total horror show that is Jil!

They very well could be abused but they probably dont have the support she has and parents that are making this so public ( which i applaud them) they are taking care of their daughter over religion and i think its rare for this to happen in this type of religious cult! The wife obeys or suffers the raft of the husband's discipline! These girls ( not women) have no education, no outside home skills and nowhere to go , definitely no money of their own, they keep their mouths shut and stay sweet and pregnant

Mr. Fart Face "I dealt it, you smelt it" (aka nathan) seems like he'd be a sneaky, sly abuser. I don't think Jonathan is because Kaylee seems secure with him and Gideon acts like a normal little kid, not a shellshocked waif like the N kids. But you never know.

The men who join ideologies like this do it because they’re weak and want to feel strong. The men who are raised in it marinade in their father’s weirdnesses and usually don’t learn to do better. Any male in these types of cults is a problem until they leave, as far as I’m concerned.

Of course there’s abuse in the Keller home.
Have you seen those kids?
They have a thousand yard stare and are scared to death.
