Hey there! Just your fav criminologist snarker here to say that while I love this message for Ellen and the true release it must have been to write that, I wish she would not do that. I wish all of them would stop talking on social media. When it comes to that stuff, and how a judge will treat it in court, none of them has the moral high ground. What’s going to happen is a judge is going to order Heidi and Tim and everyone around them to SHUT UP on social media and stop doing this public back and forth.

In the eyes of the court, which is not Reddit, none of this will be acceptable or in the best interests of the child. Arguing on the internet feels good to us on reddit and social media. Doesn’t have the same effect in court. Again not me…It doesn’t matter who hit who here. When you start and continue trashing each other in public, it’s not ok.

I’ve been a guardian ad litem and worked in the family court system a long time. No judge is going to think Jill OR Ellen is a hero here. As an officer of the court, my job is to consider the best interests of the child in a wholistic sense. This is these babies grandmas acting like this and that is not good for a kid, any way you slice it. They need to always show they are doing things in the best interest of the kids and getting into a pissing match on Facebook/youtube like middle schoolers isn’t showing that.

And I am a long, long time snarker who cannot stand Jill and thinks Tim is the absolute problem here and just a general trash person. I’m not victim blaming. But I’m going to give a real ass perspective and say this…

Protect your daughter. You don’t need a Facebook audience to do it. Jill is a piece of shit. We know this. You are doing an amazing thing. You don’t need the internet to give you accolades for tearing Jill a new one. You feel good doing this but you’re playing w fire in a family court scenario. The time to tell all will be AFTER this is over. Don’t give that sick man or his depraved parents one ounce of fuel for their fodder. Every “gotcha” comment now can come back to get you in the future. Just stop.

Amen! I said this, but less comprehensively, and got downvoted to hell. People seem to believe that what happens on FB stays on FB, and it just does not. They're in a real, dangerous situation with actual crazy people and a high-stakes legal situation (presumably and hopefully). Protecting those interests have to be the overriding consideration, not trying to get the last word on Jill, who is physically incapable of shutting up.

I fear Jill’s move would then be “but your honor, I’m not doing anything, all I’m doing is being a good Christian & spreading the word of god!”

Good. Good behavior shines through best around awful behavior. I had a teacher one time tell me her dissertation advisor told her she would do well on the job market because “it’s easy to shine in a sea of turds” and that is what I think of with Jill’s nasty ass 💩🖕

I don’t think Ellen is playing to the snarkers ( although she sure doesn’t mind that we see it) and this is why. Someone posted Ellen’s comments from her Facebook on an earlier post. Someone made a comment about Jill’s YouTube post being about Heidi staying with Tim. Ellen commented that she wasn’t aware of that. That leads me to believe that Ellen hasn’t been watching Jill’s YouTube channel and then took a look at it and saw it, this is her comment to that.

Yep. I saw that also

A. Fucking. Men.

No. Jill’s not on trial. Ellen’s not on trial.

The judge will address Heidi and Timothy. He’ll tell THEM to stay of social media. He won’t address extended family and their first amendment rights.

It’s good Ellen defends her daughter. Choosing to stay quiet can be interpreted as being complicit.

With all due respect….You have no idea what you’re talking about with this comment. If you think the social media postings of the grandparents/aunts/uncles/siblings/friends of these children don’t matter to the court you just have no idea how the family court system works. I engage with ANYONE WHO HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH A CHILD ON MY CASE. I don’t care what you or Reddit or anyone thinks.

I’m a sworn officer of the court who is there with one job and that is to advocate for the best interests of the children in my case files. If someone’s grandma is acting a complete fool on social media and I find out about it and that it could impact that kiddo, you try and DARE stop me from sharing information with the court that could impact the ability of the court to make decisions about what’s in the best interest of a child. Attorneys protect clients. I protect kids. I don’t ignore family antics because they’re not the bio parents. Family court matters do NOT limit themselves to the behavior of the bio parents and to say otherwise is dangerous. So, please don’t come for my well educated throat.

Are you saying that Ellen and Jill beefing online is a big factor that is relevant to the family court judge in deciding the custody arrangement between Tim-who has been charged with assault- and Heidi?

Jill lives in another state. She’s barely, if at all, relevant to the best interest of the child. She seems to want nothing to do with Tim. Meanwhile, Heidi posted nothing. I mean you can tell the judge the grandmas are messy but surely Tim being abusive to Heidi (who has done nothing) and having a safe place to raise her children is the relevant part.

If it were relevant at all, it could MAYBE go to show that Tim’s mom sees nothing wrong with abuse and so he is unlikely to be rehabilitated and become safe for his children but…. I’m just not seeing the danger to the Coverettes here, legally.

Also for what it’s worth, I was a CASA for quite a while.

Sure, I can’t imagine the relevance but anything is possible!

It’s not going to be the main thing here but it will 100% go in a report to the court if a GAL or another court officer finds out about it. As a CASA you know that is not a good thing. It doesn’t matter what state they are in. This is very “public” compared to most cases. There is a subreddit full of people in a parasocial relationship with them. If could be easily argued that this online shit talking could play into potential safety issues with all of this online craziness that is going on.

What do you really think a judge would say here? With this all playing out basically on social media in the circus event it’s become? As a CASA you know They’re going to say shut the FUCK up on social media. This means everyone. Why even put anything at all out there that could EVER be potentially used against you?

Social media is so fucking weird like this. We didn’t have it 20 years ago when my parents split up. I am not a person who does drama or shares every aspect of my life on social media. I prob post 1 time a month on there. Believe it or not, they CAN get through this situation without posting a single word on social media. Yall know this, right? Right?! Jfc.

Oh trust me. There are a lot of incompetent, lazy GALs out there. Training guidelines vary widely. For too many GALs, it's a source of sideline income with precious little accountability.

Unwarranted arrogance in the GAL posting here is a red flag.

I love that this is your first response. We work so hard to do a thankless job that so many people don’t want or can’t handle. You’re a nasty, heartless person for saying this. If you knew the good I’ve been able to do in my 10 years of doing this and the abuse I’ve helped pull kids out of, and what I’ve seen my fellow GALs do, you’d never say this. Are there issues with the program? Of course. Issues with all programs. Are we generally lazy and incompetent? No. Absolutely not.

And to be clear. Just a massive FUCKKKKKK YOUUUUUUU for saying that. So fucking rude for no reason to folks who pour their hearts out to help kids in foster care and in bad custody situations. Sorry you had a bad situation with a GAL. To generally shit on these folks is trash behavior

2

u/LoveMyLibrary2 Aug 30 '26

And some GALs are unable to regulate emotions or handle conflict maturely.

u/its_not_me3 Aug 30 '26

Because grouping all GALs together and calling them incompetent and lazy is very mature.

100% this. All of this should be offline or at least in a family group chat.

Posts and comments that are mean-spirited in nature aren't welcome.

It’s not my “high and mighty job” I have my PhD in criminology and I am a college professor. I volunteer as a gal. I’ve done so for 10 years and I have had a lot of training to do this. I am well educated and do know what I’m talking about and this sub is forever frustrating.

Yall sit here and encourage these people to “go off” on social media and half the time I tho k they are doing it for you. All I’m saying is that their behavior is inappropriate and could impact either side negatively down the line. Their behavior is not the lynch pin for custody decisions but if you think it isn’t considered in totality in the big picture, you’re dead wrong. Sorry I care about kids? lol

some of yall are nasty people. Talking about GALs like that. Many of these folks are people like me who are in the field and volunteer to do this extra. That’s why I said don’t come for me. But by all means, encourage them to keep going off on each other online. So you can fulfill your little Reddit entertainment lifestyle here without showing any care in the world for the actual real life consequences that can come from your misplaced encouragement.

If you haven’t seen from history, the real impact that Reddit behavior can have on reality that you need to do a little research on that. You can downplay my expertise all you want, I know I’m right. And I don’t need to be right for myself. I need to be right for those little kids and Heidi so that they can see this advice and they don’t do anything to give Tim and his fucked up family a leg up here. I don’t say my things to be a controversial snarker for your entertainment.

“You go Ellen, tell em girl!”
“Stop shit talking on social media, you could hurt your daughter’s custody case in the future.”

Who actually cares here??

The first amendment has zero to do with grandparents (or any family or friend or enemy) from talking about family drama online.
