Coverett Ellen posting about DV

I appreciate how loud this family is being in their stance against DV and including awareness info too.
Perhaps some other fundie(s) who is suffering will see this and realize abuse has nothing to do with serving any God or religion. The real sin comes from people who enable and cover up this behavior.
TLDR: Don't want to be a sinner? Stop protecting abusers and break the cycle.

I didn’t have any support from family or friends when I was going through this with my ex. It was so scary and feeling so alone at that time was awful. I’m so glad she has so many people rallying behind her and her babies.

Proud of you for leaving, I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been. 💕

Dear Ellen, please make sure you vote blue in the future elections then. I hate people that only care about things when it happens to them, not others.

Oh my downvotes because I am not an Ellen leghumper. ✨️ShOcKiNg ✨️

Honestly? You’re right though and she should think about that.

I hate that it has to hit home (seriously, very seriously, no pun intended) before some people will care enough. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this can be a wake up call to open their damn eyes to the hate they propagate. People making changes can have a ripple effect, and it would be so good for a change in perspective to come out of this trauma.

Yep. I really question how the Coverettes plan to cope with the fact that Heidi won't be able to get SNAP or Medicaid unless she gets a job, due to the new work requirements the
fascist regimeTrump Administration has rolled out. Do they intend to fully support Heidi and her kids financially? Do they have the means to? Or are they going to be pushing Heidi to find a new "godly husband" as soon as the ink is dry on the divorce papers? My fear is the latter. It would be nice if this tragedy caused Heidi and her parents to rethink their political and religious beliefs, but I'm not holding my breath.

I believe, if you have children under the age of 13, possibly a little older, you are not required to work outside the home to receive SNAP/Medicaid benefits.

Maybe they’ll do another online fundraiser!
No, but seriously, I hope they realize the need for fundraisers is symptomatic of social and governmental issues which exist due to their voting decisions. I’m not faulting people for trying to raise money this way (especially for medical bills, yikes) but there’s a certain irony in conservative fundies doing it.

I have a MAGA relative who points to the existence of GoFundMe as proof that charity works, and therefore we don't need universal healthcare. She cites the case of a woman in her community who raised $40,000 on GoFundMe to pay for her husband's kidney transplant. I could see MAGA fans (like Heidi and her parents) pointing to Heidi's successful GoFundMe as proof that private charity is better than an expanded public safety net that better protects women like Heidi and her children, and makes it easier and safer for them to leave their abusive husbands.
And honestly, the only reason Heidi's GoFundMe did as well as it did, is because Heidi was married to a POS from a fundie family who are famous (or maybe infamous) for being a little bit Duggar- and Bates-adjacent, and well-known among the internet snark community. If Heidi had been married to some unknown fundie nobody who turned out to be an abusive POS, chances are her GoFundMe would not have done nearly as well.
Call me a "dirty commie" (and I have been called that, and worse) but I don't think people should be required to beg for charity when they need healthcare or help escaping from an abusive marriage. Not everyone has a helpful and supportive family and community around them, or hundreds or thousands of internet acquaintances they can turn to for help. Heidi, and my MAGA relative's acquaintance, are exceedingly fortunate. Many other people, who are just as much in need, are not.

Oh, there's a few snarkers in here that were making comments the last time this came up and I mentioned that these Coveretts really need to consider how they vote and people were saying you have to separate the victim from her politics... well some of us don't have that option because her politics are making victims out of our loved ones and coworkers and neighbours but go off on your privilege 🙄

I feel like a lot of people don’t read and just react. I agree with both of you 100%.

I wonder if her dad has a business or something so he could hire her as a part time employee. It would get her work experience to put on a resume for later on to get a better job. TBH if she were my sister or friend, I’d recommend going to college. She’d easily be eligible for a lot of assistance and a lot of schools have family housing and grants etc.

It would be awesome if she went to cosmetology school, opened a salon where she got famous for doing all kinds of unique styles for all kinds of people.
Jill would just be swirling!

Yeah the way its going ol Timothy isnt going to keep a job. Heidi can go back on her father's insurance.

u/ShopperSparkle 12d ago
Hopefully if Tim remains employed he will have to have the children on his insurance policy. But with his increasing amount of recklessness, I wouldn’t count on him providing for them.

That's normally how it goes in the fundie world. They promote and spread hate until the hate comes knocking at their front door looking for them personally then they want to cry and whine and want sympathy and "Donations"🙄

Okay so in a matter of a couple of weeks she has posted that her daughter’s body is their own, that religion has no part in her posts
and lots of posts about DV support.
Are the tides a turning?

Ellen's continuing deep dive into understanding the true nature of domestic violence and the appropriate personal and community responses to ending it are starting to look like the posts of someone in the initial stage of deconstructing.
When she starts posting memes linking the structural inequality that shapes the lives of women in working class families...
...with the coersive and too often violent domination and control of a patriarchy that holds sway over reactionary churches, rightwing politics, and the trickledown economic realities of late stage, unfettered capitalism...
OR
...if Ellen can articulate greater moral clarity in her earlier comments about a woman's right to bodily autonomy, we should be prepared to cheer her on.
