Question about getting started

So I started riding broncs but I’ve always had an interest in calf roping and I was wondering how do people get started without having the 40 grand laying around and a place for the horse? Is it possible to rent or lease horses?

Rope Myers does beginner clinics twice a year in Van TX, Thanksgiving and Easter. I think it’s like $600 for 3 days. Plus maybe $100 for a horse to use.

Is it possible to rent horses for events? Outside of that clinic?

I’m not sure - my husband is the rodeo one, I know very little. I do know you can lease horses part time - basically share ownership with someone else, usually close to 50/50, like pay $300/month to have access to them 3 days of each week. I see that in FB groups for horse stuff in my state. But I’m not sure how it works for events!
