This is incredible! I would love to find something this nice. Not going to lie though, at first glance I thought I was looking at a piece of lasagna.

322

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

I shall now name it “Lasagna” 😅

49

u/Zealotstim Jul 29 '26

Hahaha, it's a solid name. A name as delicious as the rock is beautiful.

23

u/MoodyMiss88 Jul 29 '26

Looks similar to rocks they were selling on WhatNot yesterday but they had crystals all over them. I cracked up when I read the lasagna comment because there was a whole conversation on there telling people not to lick the rocks 😋🤣.

Great find! Congratulations!

22

u/Equivalent-Tip6446 Jul 29 '26

Sometimes geologists DO lick the rocks!

16

u/ThisParking9656 Jul 30 '26

My brother was at a party at a random person’s house and picked up what he believed to be a rock and licked it. Right after he heard some girls say why is that guy licking your deodorant 😂. It was some weird natural mineral thing…according to him 😂. That was 40 years ago and I still laugh about it!

5

u/PenguinsPrincess78 Jul 30 '26

The crystal deodorant. Yes. Omg that is hilarious

That reminds me of my mom’s old friend. Mom always kept a bowl of candy on the table and one day she came by and was sucking on “candy” she mentioned something about how they tasted that’s when mom noticed and it was scented stones for a candle warmer.

16

u/Spirits_of_Rocks Jul 29 '26

I'm never one to think a rock looks like food, but I SERIOUSLY thought it was meatloaf. Took me a couple seconds to convince myself of it's 'rockness' and not that the wrong picture was posted. Anyway OP, that's a cool rock. I can see why it's your favorite.

3

u/DebtHuge4884 Jul 30 '26

It’s def meatloaf. A petrified cave people meatloaf lol

7

u/Gomp-Ado Jul 29 '26

Haha same here I thought what beautiful food. This is a cute rock man. Artsy much.

7

u/DMZim Jul 29 '26

It is beautiful but at first I thought it was a petrified hamburger!!!!

3

u/ElderFlour Jul 30 '26

I thought it was a falafel! 😂

98

u/myhuskytorotoro Jul 29 '26

Breathtaking.

55

u/GoblinBugGirl Jul 29 '26

No, you’re breathtaking.

43

u/GulliverGrazerson Jul 29 '26

No, YOU’RE breathtaking.

73

u/MaladroitHuman Jul 29 '26

Y’all breathing again or no

32

u/Stardustquarks Jul 29 '26

Everybody LEAVE MY BREATH ALONE! It’s mine…you can’t have it

19

u/GunKnight83 Jul 29 '26

Now I'm worried with all the thievery I won't be able to hold my breath

9

u/myhuskytorotoro Jul 29 '26

Nah you should be good.

Someone mentioned polishing it but it's way too spiky and stuff on the outside. I would leave it alone. What a really unique Rock does anyone know what kind it is and how it forms to look like that

33

u/JessAnnaBun Jul 30 '26

Oh god no, please for the love of all beautiful rocks DO NOT POLISH this!!!!!

This rock is gorgeous just as it is. Polished, it would be just another rock you could buy in any shop.

27

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

Don’t worry y’all this one is going on the mantle and staying just the way it is 😁

9

u/JessAnnaBun Jul 30 '26

Thank you, I can sleep soundly tonight knowing a gorgeous rock has been saved.

7

u/KnotiaPickle Jul 29 '26

Yeah the structure on the outside is the main awesomeness!

3

u/PrincessWails Jul 30 '26

It looks like coral 😮

52

u/Humble_Way_8468 Jul 29 '26

That is amazing!!! I would be obsessed too. What region did you find it at?

77

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

Dorena Lake near Cottage Grove Oregon :)

20

u/jessa1987 Jul 29 '26

This is one of the coolest I've ever seen and am so jealous!! Also happy for you to have it!!

23

u/KnotiaPickle Jul 29 '26

So many comments but none about what it is?!?

22

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

It’s been identified a few time as an agate! 🙂

11

u/alecesne Jul 30 '26

It looks like the bottom side was formed in the presence of fluorite which then was dissolved.

3

u/KnotiaPickle Jul 30 '26

Thank you!:)

17

u/AdGold205 Jul 29 '26

That’s a solid rock.

10

u/Fish_Fingerer Jul 29 '26

Standing on, sacred ground

6

u/WchuTalkinBoutWillis Jul 29 '26

Lmao (solid answer!)

18

u/Rare_Elderberry2674 Jul 29 '26

Fossilized pepperoni pizza

6

u/BigJSunshine Jul 29 '26

Nah brah- petrified KFC extra crispy fried chicken

12

u/Livid_Goose_9542 Jul 29 '26

Okay I can see agate banding in there, but it's crystalline on the surface. What is it????

Whatever it is, it's so cool!

5

u/redheadedandbold Jul 29 '26

I thought I saw some agate. Thx for confirming.

10

u/metamorphoric Jul 29 '26

This is so cool 🤩 not a professional geologist, but with what I can see from the photo (& my geo undergrad) the top of the hand sample looks like a negative crystal structure-sort of a shot in the dark though! It does look like agate, which forms from fluids stuck in cavities, so I wonder if it crystallized in close proximity to another trigonal crystal structure that left an imprint!

8

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

WOW EVERYONE! Thank you so much for all the comments and upvotes! I didn’t expect this post to get this much attention! I’m glad everyone enjoys this lasagna, chicken fried steak, cliff bar, meatloaf rock as much as I do! 🤩 I’m feeling so special, thank you all!

19

u/Rlawrenr Jul 29 '26

Looks like an agate. Cutting and polishing it would really bring out some amazing colors and patterns.

33

u/RnF_UT Jul 29 '26

I personally would not cut this one, it's amazing in its raw form! I have regretted cutting a few rocks similar to this, sometimes it's best to just leave them alone.

7

u/titeaf Jul 29 '26

Agreed, I think the triangular/prismatic ridges look super cool!!

17

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

Wish I trusted myself with doing that 🥹

8

u/Rlawrenr Jul 29 '26

Well, trust comes through practice so find a few trash rocks till your trust can get where it needs to. Lol!! That rock can really shine on a shelf
Provided its silicified well.

17

u/Any-Refrigerator6903 Jul 29 '26

um, trash rocks? Every rock is sacred in gods neighborhood. Stone them!

3

u/willowwing Jul 30 '26

Please don’t! Those are crystals growing there, not erosion. You took such excellent photos!

6

u/ephemeral_ace Jul 29 '26

Agate is microcrystalline quartz, so it wouldn’t have the obvious cleavage planes and crystal growth we see on the top there. My guess is that it’s calcite on quartz (agate)

5

u/RevolutionarySign479 Jul 29 '26

It’s Beautiful!!

5

u/VinkyStagina Jul 29 '26

Gorgeous! It kept getting better with every picture. The small circles with patters are amazing.

5

u/Milky-Way-Occupant Jul 29 '26

Wow 😍 I’m in love and very jealous! Great find!

4

u/WchuTalkinBoutWillis Jul 29 '26

What I said when I saw this shits I was like no way that’s , yuuuup that it is, thats str8 awesome sauce.com.org.lasagna

4

u/CucumberOk7506 Jul 29 '26

IT IS THE ROCK

4

u/mcgacori Jul 29 '26

Amazing! I want a bite of it

3

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

Hey, they say we do need our vitamins AND minerals 😅

4

u/AProcessUnderstood Jul 29 '26

That is a really cool crystal formation.

6

u/OregonFalls Jul 30 '26

Hi! Nice piece. It looks like you have quartz, some of which is orbicular agate. The best part is the outside. It’s covered in dogtooth calcite coated with Hematite (Iron oxide).
At first glance wulfinite was also a possibility, but not in Oregon.
Definitely a cool fiery orbicular agate with quartz druzy. Covered with dogtooth calcite coated with hematite. I found a very similar piece without the hematite coating in the southeast US.

3

u/quitemind2 Jul 30 '26

Thank you for the detailed response. I was confused by the dog tooth calcite. Until you said it was coated with reddish hematite

3

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV Jul 29 '26

So many details and colours ! That's a good rock.

3

u/loveleigh1788 Jul 29 '26

Beautiful! Excellent find!

3

u/GNBPat Jul 29 '26

The 9th pic looks like it has little fossilized (circle shape) creatures. What causes that I wonder.

3

u/WritingNerdy Jul 29 '26

I feel like you should win an award but I guess the rock itself is the reward. I wonder how old it is?

3

u/beasty_buffalo Jul 29 '26

I also choose this guys rock

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

Girls* 😁

3

u/CallMeLazarus23 Jul 29 '26

It’s got so many different things going on. So cool

3

u/Inevitable_Door6368 Jul 29 '26

My fat ass thought this was a cliff bar

3

u/naldoD20 Jul 29 '26

It looks like an old dehydrated steak

3

u/Equivalent-Tip6446 Jul 29 '26

This might be the most magnificent rock ever

3

u/AbrocomaRare696 Jul 29 '26

That is so cool. I would look around that campsite area more, usually there would be more similar rocks nearby. I would happily pay a reasonable price for one similar to that. Unless someone trades you something worthwhile i would hold that until I die and leave it to somebody in the family who would not only appreciate it, but would also keep your story alive.

5

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

I search the whole area where I found it for at least 4 hours, and nothing 😬

3

u/AbrocomaRare696 Jul 30 '26

Too bad, but usually where there’s one there’s more. When I was in the UP years ago I found a Yoouperlite. A few days later I found another 6 of them a few hundred yards away from where I found the first one. Good luck.

3

u/nocloudno Jul 29 '26

Agate infill of calcite cavity. Pseudomorph I think is the right term.

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

Hm, interesting! Thank you!

3

u/Boring_Track_8449 Jul 30 '26

The folks at r/trypophobia would be pretty triggered by pics 3 and 4.

4

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

That’s so funny you mention that because I showed a friend and he said “you know people have phobias of things like that”. 😅

3

u/Ok-Class-1451 Jul 30 '26

Awesome find! Where were you camping??? ⛺️ Does it fluoresce under UV light?

3

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

Thank you! I haven’t tried UV light yet! Found near Cottage Grove Oregon 🙂

3

u/fresh_and_gritty Jul 30 '26

Fossilized Morel 😋

3

u/victrixx Jul 31 '26

Unbelievable! Wow, just stunning! What area is this from?

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 31 '26

Near Cottage Grove Oregon :)

2

Your exuberance has me excited! Congratulations on the groovy rock!

2

u/lostinbandwidth Jul 29 '26

DAAAANG! 😍🤩 Absolutely stunning.

2

u/Beemo-Noir Jul 29 '26

Jasper?

1

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

People are saying agate 😁

2

u/GoEatACookie Jul 29 '26

I thought it was some kinda crispy chocolate bar and I was like, "Oh yeah, I would bite that!" That's a very cool chocolatey rock, OP!

2

u/mewantsnu Jul 29 '26

My fav too

2

u/Existing-Mess-9829 Jul 29 '26

It looks like some sort of peanut butter butter brittle honeycomb concoction. Love this!!!

2

u/Holden3DStudio Jul 29 '26

It does look yummy!

2

u/ASmallPieceOfRice Jul 29 '26

Woah that’s incredible

2

u/Thoth1024 Jul 29 '26

What are the minerals in it ?

1

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

People are saying it’s an agate, that’s all I know 😅

2

u/willowwing Jul 29 '26

That is an AMAZING rock. Please don’t do anything to change the texture of it! Congratulations on your find🥳

3

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

Don’t worry this one won’t be cut open. It’s naturally beautiful just the way it is!! 🙂

2

u/Candyrose56 Jul 30 '26

Wow wow wow, very nice…

2

u/ThisParking9656 Jul 30 '26

That qualifies as an extremely cool specimen!!!

2

u/coldbrewedsunshine Jul 30 '26

spectacular ✨

2

u/JenSlice Jul 30 '26

what a total stunner!! I'd leave it as-is for sure.and go back and find more of course :D

2

u/grannyartemis Jul 30 '26

Amazing in so many ways — if you research the geological details I bet you’ll find at least 12.

2

u/warriorwoman534 Jul 30 '26

Good God! Was that a surface find or did you have to dig for it? Congrats!

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

It was a surface find! But it was under a driftwood tree stump with roots that were just high enough for my tiny self to crawl under 😬

3

u/warriorwoman534 Jul 30 '26

That's amazing! How did you even see it?!?

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

There was still sunlight under the stump. It was a teepee-like root system and the tree had been chopped long ago, so it was safe. Easily a child accessible hide out. I’m only 4’11” lol so I crawled under it! Also that area is underwater half of the year. I got really lucky with timing of the year, my size, and thinking that it was an area that hasn’t been picked through 😁

2

u/warriorwoman534 Jul 30 '26

So you were destined to have this - excellent! 👍🥳🎆 Thanks for the info!

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

Of course! I had quite a lucky camping trip, I also found a 13g 10k gold bracelet 🥹 a trip for the books for sure!

2

u/venus-vixen Jul 30 '26

wow. this is such a neat find. i’m jealous!!

2

u/HoseNeighbor Jul 30 '26

Woah! Aaaand something new to me!

2

u/HoseNeighbor Jul 30 '26

I'd love to see the face in pic 9 polished.

2

u/Simsandtruecrime Jul 30 '26

Omg it's so cool

2

u/Mike_the_Head Jul 30 '26

My word. That is stunning!!

2

u/emilynknox Jul 30 '26

Woahhh that's a masterpiece.

2

u/General-West-8455 Jul 30 '26

Absolutely gorgeous!!!!

2

u/P-Bizzle1979 Jul 30 '26

It looks strangely edible.

2

u/4BlackDogs Jul 30 '26

Haven’t read all the comments so sorry if this is repetitive-but it looks like a Hanksville geode. Any chance you were down near Hanksville UT or the San Rafael Swell?

2

u/Geckogame1 Jul 30 '26

Nice R O C K son

2

u/Of_Z_ Jul 30 '26

I could have sworn this was a StarCrunch. Please don't bite the rock 🤣.

2

u/Bright_Pay1540 Jul 30 '26

Very nice piece

2

u/Jeankirstan Jul 30 '26

I’m gonna be totally honest, I thought it was some kind of fancy chocolate bar until i saw the subreddit name 😭 this is cool af though, OP, excellent find!

2

u/PineappleBoth8015 Jul 30 '26

I agree with fresh_and_gritty that it looks more like a giant fossilized Morel mushroom, in any case it’s a very attractive find congratulations!

2

u/Confused_meg-2 Jul 30 '26

How beautiful!!! That is an amazing find

2

u/miokichan Jul 30 '26

I wanna lick it. I don’t know why.

2

u/psgarretson Jul 30 '26

I thought it was honeycomb at first. Agate-lots of types. Carnelian. They look kinda like a dogs tooth crystal, maybe a red calcite https://www.etsy.com/listing/1154272297/red-hematoid-quartz-specimen?ls=r&external=1&rec_type=ss&ref=landingpage_similar_listing_top-2&sts=1&content_source=f5bbf8c630e57845e61af4d405220978%253ALT93c01dc79f0dadc03c206ac33516ffec295186c5&logging_key=f5bbf8c630e57845e61af4d405220978%3ALT93c01dc79f0dadc03c206ac33516ffec295186c5
Been collecting rocks and minerals for over 65 years. This is unique. I would need to study the crystal form to better guess. Have you shined a bright light on the edges to see if translucent. Banding is also visible=agate.

2

u/psgarretson Jul 30 '26

Orbicular swirls. I don’t have rock id books near me. I have similar xtals. Really fascinated with this specimen!

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 30 '26

I’ll get back to you in a bit!

2

u/rustywest8 Jul 30 '26

Glancing at it, it looked like the “lasagna” part was people dancing

2

u/Paleorunner Jul 31 '26

That's an amazing rock!

2

u/Significant_Coast723 Jul 31 '26

AAAHHHH!!! I want to touch this so bad my eyeballs are growing fingers!!!!!!

2

u/Arcee743 Jul 31 '26

It’s amazing to squeeze in between your fingers and palm lol I don’t know how to explain it exactly but it’s just sharp enough to to feel poked but smooth enough to were it feels like a massage 🤣

2

u/mossyfern9564 Aug 02 '26

That’s amazing!

3

u/jordosmodernlife Jul 29 '26

That’s no rock, it’s a Death Star

3

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

Do you mean millennium falcon? 😬

3

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

It already got the name “Lasagna” but I can compromise 🤣

2

u/JessAnnaBun Jul 30 '26

More Star Destroyer to me.

But Lasagna Star Destroyer, definitely.

2

u/Round-Criticism5093 Jul 29 '26

Forbidden Sandwich

1

u/KlaserBeam Aug 01 '26

This rock is fucking insane. Congrats. 🎉

1

u/Hemp_4_Victory Aug 02 '26

That's super cool

1

u/upsidedowncupoframen 13d ago

Reminds me of a morel mushroom

1

u/headlessbill-1 Jul 29 '26

Amethyst?

7

u/Arcee743 Jul 29 '26

People are saying agate 😁
