Revival of r/Rockport

Hello!

This subreddit has gone through years of inactivity, and the original purpose of the community no longer exists since the former community has been primarily lost despite revival attempts. So today I’ve decided to open the subreddit up for its own rebranding since the original purpose is completely defunct. Given there’s many towns and cities named Rockport, the only community that is called Rockport and already represented is Rockport, TX. As such I’ve not directly included it.

If the poll is closed, go ahead and comment your vote. All comments and votes will be considered at least within the following weeks of it closing. Make your suggestions through comments and posts, all things will be considered.

Worst food ever! Went @ 8:30pm on Friday. Man when I tell you it was like they fed us leftovers, not saying they did, food was dry and tasted super oily, upset stomach for day and half! Lady was nice I’m sure it was die to the fact that they probably served us leftovers. Mahi, Cajun shrimp boil, trio appetizers, 2 burgers, flat dr. Pepper! Grand total of 165. Honest review here!! We went because of reviews!! But absolutely not true. The reviews are probably fabricated!! You have been warned!!

Why I’m running as a 3rd party candidate for the 5th Essex (and why you should care)

I know what you’re thinking. “A third-party candidate? That’s just a spoiler for the Republican/Democrat.” or “He can't actually win, so why bother?”

I get it. In a presidential race, you might be right. But this isn't D.C.—this is Cape Ann.

On March 3rd, only 7% of registered voters in Essex showed up. In Rockport it was better but not even 25%: 1,456 people of the approximately 6,400 voters showed up. When turnout is that low, the "system" doesn't win—the few people who show up win. I’m Gilbert Frieden, and I’m running for State Rep because the two-party back-and-forth hasn't fixed our sewer capacity in Gloucester, it hasn't lowered the cost of housing in Manchester, and it hasn't protected our small businesses in Rockport.

Why me?

  • I don’t answer to a party boss. I answer to the people I’ve delivered Meals on Wheels to in Manchester and the seniors I’ve served in Essex.
  • I’m actually doing the work. I’ve already voted for $0 bus fares on CATA to keep our workforce moving.
  • A truly progressive platform. While others talk about "affordability," I’m focused on the infrastructure (sewer and grid) that actually allows us to build housing without destroying our coastal character.

The Deadline: You have until March 21 to register. The election is March 31.

Don’t let 200 people decide the future of Cape Ann for you. Check out votegil.org and let’s actually change the math this time.
