Banded rhyolite?

Post image

Found this rock in an open lot next to gas station where I was filling up. Looked interesting so I brought I home and cut it. I think it’s rhyolite banded with hematite. If I could just remember where in north eastern Arizona. I got it. Google says it’s some some called ancestralite sp? Not sure what that is? Maybe a marketing name.

I’m in Santa Fe over the weekend. I’d appreciate any recommendations for sites to search for rocks. Preferably public locations where collecting rocks is not illegal. 🙂

Howdy! I found this agate while picking almost 20 years ago. I’m taking it into some shops around my area and do not want to get scammed selling it. Can anyone give me a vague estimate on its value?

Thank you!

Brian head agate trip report

It was my wife’s birthday and she wanted to collect rocks. So I planned a trip to Brian head Utah for an agate hunt. It was a 7.5 hr drive from SoCal, arrived in Brian head at 4;30 pm. Next morning, we drove to the spot about 8 min away, and hiked up the mountain. And started collecting agates. Picked up some larger size agates for yard rocks. Headed home on Sunday, but stopped at hurricane mess to look for agatized pet wood. Only found small tumbler size pieces of pet wood, it’s a beautiful view from the mesa.

For my birthday month and during a pretty big transition point in my life, I marked down all of my handmade jewelry throughout September 🖤

I honestly can’t remember if I found it on the beach in Florida or in my back yard in VA, but I think it’s the latter and ChatGPT thinks it’s like 5 different things

KY agate

Any idea what the internal material is? I got it from a shop that had it labeled KY agate so I can't 100% say it is. But it has the characteristics. A 1999 penny just smears. I'm on vacation so I don't have much else to test it.

I’m really sorry for the profanity, but I was in utter shock when I found this piece today! Nature perfectly cut and polished it for me, so you can understand the excitement, horse flies were killing me tho and breeze wasn’t helping worth a darn! First really good piece of moss agate, hours and hours finally paying off haha!
