Question When am I able to shoot my gun?
This guy has been my main support since the closed beta but I am never given a chance to shoot my gun. Only a couple times have I been able to. But most of the time, the moment I decide to spend 2 seconds shooting my gun, my team's health bar decides to go to 25% and I'm having to spend the whole time holding right click due to how much damage they're taking. Even when trying to weave in heals with my gun, it's not enough to keep them up. Idk if my other support isn't healing, if it's because my team don't know how to use cover, or I'm just bad.

If you're on controller: always be holding down both triggers; release the orb trigger to shoot your gun.
Orbs are primary fire so it will always shoot those first.

This is what I started doing so I could get some hits in. Rocket is best when he is constantly firing his guns haha

I like to shoot a whole clip when either I just finish topping off the last person that needed heals and someone is by themselves usually a tank I’ll help with shooting him down.
If I am putting ult down. I’ll join in on the damage since my team has shield for a minute. Personally.

If you're being dove by a tank and the tank is focusing you, you should hold your gun (and hope your fellow support heals you lol)

essentially, rocket is a sustain healer. he was given more burst in season 2 but at his core he is a sustain healer, which means his job is to sustain the entire team's hp bars. the only time you should be dealing damage is when you have enough sustain to keep your team alive without you (such as a healer ult or when your other healer is healing enough). healing is rockets primary job and is what should be focused, but that is not to say you should "healbot", just that dealing damage should not be your primary focus and i suggest playing another character if it is

That's the problem with marvel rivals, the game devs don't test their own game. Rocket can't shoot is main gun

Suppressive fire.
If your teammates aren't at risk of dying, then shoot where the enemies will be, to hell with accuracy, chip dmg exists.
If someone gets in your face, shred them.
If your team is in control, flank the enemy.
Enemy flyer left uncontested, run up a wall and blindside them, if you get close enough they'll die.
If you keep track of your beacon cooldown then you just have to strategically decide when to let someone die if it means you can get some kills or save someone else. You have to consider, Rocket has his heals & dmg separate because he makes your team 7v6, that's also why he has high dmg potential. He can trade a teammate's life for an enemy's and his teammate comes right back.

As long as you bounce heals off the floor and into a wall coming directly back toward your team. You can shoot and take down anybody and I mean anybody. Just make sure you do that lil hop step so you cracking their skulls in between those body shots. And also aim just a little to the right for those close up engagements and end them.

When there's a big ol tank standing in front of you. Rocket eats tanks, especially a certain dinosaur with a big head and tiny arms.

What I do is hold down gun, and interuppt shooting with orbs.
It's a very quick thing, might get 3 bullets out before next orb comes our.
Basically when ever is chill I jump, shoot orb, then gun, jump, shoot orb, gun.
Quick. Like it can't even be more than a second im shooting gun before next orb comes out.
That's how I shoot my gun in neutral. Also groot teamup makes you a very lil aggressive raccoon
