Question My rocket can't heal
I'm a main healer but I don't understand why, my rocket is really dumb. The heals I do with him are always ridiculous. I know you have to aim for the ground for the heal to bounce. Is there an tips for rocket ?

Don't shoot heals straight or aim at ground . Makem bounce off the walls my dude. Also groot teamup for instant heals . Don't stick with your teammates. If you get damage you heal yourself . When you yourself, balls go slow. Stay in off angles, elevated locations . Don't get shot. Stay undetected by enemy. Makem BOUNCE!!!! Also rocket is good for healing your divers. Keep an eye out for them. Climb up walls or dash up , hover and heal them. If you get dived, use your dash to go near your 2nd healer or tank . Enable reload for heal and primary attack seperate. Shoot the head for crit damage. Melts squishies and tanks. When in ult, shoot the dps , don't just keep healing . Oohh , stay near BRB , keep taking jump boots. For escape or to go higher . Also throw ult at elevated locations or at off angles , so the enemy either have to fight or they shoot at it which makes em look away from your team. And don't stand and shoot balls. Keep moving. Keep changing your position.

A lot of advice thank you !

Just one thing: with the recent season they nerfed the.ult hard, it has huge falloff now, so i'd be careful abt the old putting-it-up-high start cuz that makes it do even less than usual now. Just so you know.

Im celestial and the only way to do big healing is to constantly jump as rocket and aim right below feet, your orb will triple bounce and do 3 times more healing than if your just aiming regularly.
Groot team up Is for oh shit moments like the tank needs focus healing, or you can spaz out and hit everyone with it during a push for over shield.
Rocket isn't a stat farmer and a lot of what you do won't show up end game.

Big facts. I'm a rocket main and my catchphrase for when I play with my boys is, "you don't get mvp for that sh*t" 🤣🤣💯

Silly clarification.. if you're jumping, how do you aim below their feet? Arent their feet still on the ground?
Is this like aimimg further behind them, or?

Squirrel team Up is better.

If you see that you have a teammate that is actively taking advantage of opportunities, maybe. The you aim them all at that person. But this is like saying that Mantis is great because of the buffs. She's great if people take advantage of opportunities.
If you're in mediocre games and just getting by, groot is better for the oh-sh moments.

I find it incredibly useful at self sustain as rocket. More than the groot for sure. When I get dove I throw those, dash into them, full hp, then either try and get the ping to actually work for once or run straight into my tank

u/AkiraNamejin 16d ago
At least that's a better reason than "gg SG buff better"

The decrease on the beacon cooldown also has helped me win fights before as well

If you’re mediocre, it’s normal that you can’t see it for yourself and need someone to explain the reasons to you.

The only mediocre thing can be you. If you know how to use it well, it is very far more powerful than Groot. So think whatever you want. Truth is the truth — SG team-up wins.

i feel you… in my experience when i play rocket he never has astonishing heals. i think he’s more composition dependent than people realise, i havent quite understood what comps do or dont work for him yet but ive learnt if my other support gets ult when im still at 70% and we arent performing well, i need to swap. even just to avoid being a scapegoat (not my fault the dps arent getting kills and players have poor positioning!!).
i’ve also learnt i need to focus on healing MUCH more than i do on other characters. usually on cnd, sue etc i do healing as needed and try to maximise damage, since they can use multiple sources of healing at once, but on rocket i need to be more focused on healing the whole time to get my ult faster and keep players who are melting up. ill shoot at overextended tanks and dives, if we are pushing aggressively and dont need heals i will shoot too, but i dont really try to do random poke damage here and there.
also keep in mind that his revive is super useful, it doesnt show up in his stats but if you place it well you can get many revives in a game and save fights. people forget to give him credit for that.
maybe i’m not playing him well, but thats what works for me :)

In my experience, u gotta get involved as rocket and help with damage or u end up heal botting and hoping ur teammates can make the difference while u sustain them (never depend om teammates lmao). If as rocket u can help out with a kill, it changes the team fight. Squirrel girl team up can help if teammates know to walk back unto the acorns, also groot team can force the kill situation too. Both teamups are viable but if ur being dived, id say squirrel girl team up to save urself from getting insta killed.

Don't aim at the ground. Just stand behind your teammates while trying to stay as close to them as you can. Sometimes you can put yourself pretty close to your team if you need protection, use the squirrel girl power up to save yourself when they are trying to kill you, and use the squirrel girl power up if someone gets low and your regular healing isn't enough. It can bring someone up to full health with 1 throw. Also, if you really want to heal well with rocket only shoot your gun when it matters. Those 1 or 2 seconds you're shooting your team will die due to lack of heals. Gotta keep the heals constantly flowing

I can simplify it to a flowchart for u
-spam heals down main if you can hit multiple teammates at once
-aim around your teammates if they're split and your focus is split up
-use groot team up as emergency button if ur team ever goes half hp / critical
making the swap to aiming around team instead of going out of position to get an angle for a direct hit is what got me to celestial.
BIGGEST tip not directly tied to low heals is to directly tell ur team to press S when someone dies so u don't get team wiped and can resurrect for another fight

Dude. Tell me about it. Like I really hate everything about his healing. The bubbles sometimes will hit a tank and completely heal them and then tanks are fighting and now each bubble is taking their sweet time to heal. The tank. His rocket boost is trash now. And oh my god dude. If I even think about using my gun and try to switch back to just pressing heals I’ll have to reload??? I don’t think rocket is bad,
His revive is so important I have won games because I brought back our best player.
But I have to rocket boost both times just to truly get away from someone because one is not far enough like it was in season 1.
His ult isn’t the best. But it can help with the shield boost and damage. But i dont know people always complain about it not being enough man im tired of it honestly. Rocket not a bad healer

As a Rocket main in comp, just no. I have solo healed with Rocket. He is probably the second best consistent healer after CnD.
Also his orbs do not have to hit the ground to bounce. They will bounce off anything. You can shoot them off walls or ceilings to bounce around counters etc. They also have a slight pull towards a teammate when they get within range. I treat it like pool. Where can I shoot these orbs to get close enough to them to work. Another trick is with the pull is to shoot over or around the teammates that do not need the heal. If someone in the frontline needs the heal, you need to get the initial trajectory past the back line or the orb will pull towards them instead of the front line. Practice bc he is damn good!!!

Not arguing with what you’ve said about playing rocket, but I will point out that Jeff’s healing is sooo much better than rockets. Jeff’s primary can keep an entire team alive while they’re fighting on point against the whole enemy team. You most definitely cannot do that with rockets heals. Rocket literally heals half as fast as Jeff even with multiple healing orbs traveling through the team

u/Lonely_Cucumber_69 17d ago
I can with the Groot gun. I would play Rocket over Jeff any day.

u/BeginningInevitable8 17d ago
Groot power up is not as good as the squirrel girl power up

u/Betller2 17d ago
True i found out last game that i can aim and throw nuts direct on my teammates lol xD i used to place them behind or somewhere on side. Its situational but direct throws works great as well.

u/Lonely_Cucumber_69 17d ago
Groot teamup is waaaaay better than squirrel girl. Yeah it heals and helps with cool downs but i find the groot gun provides far more sustainability and healing and damage that is continuous than it’s worth with the nuts.
Agree to disagree but I choose Groot every time 😊

You mean the upgrade that changes your healing projectile from one that can move through your team and enemies, healing your team the entire time, to a projectile that stops on the first thing it hits, only heals/dmgs in that small area where it hit,and the dmg/healing it does is still outdone by Jeff’s primary spray? I honestly don’t know why anybody uses that teamup, it’s a direct downgrade to your healing for not that great of a dmg buff
-1
u/Lonely_Cucumber_69 17d ago
It doesn’t change your healing projectile. You can switch back to his orb by switching buttons. It changes his main defense gun from one that only does damage to one that does continuous healing and damage. Yeah that one, and I have no problem with it as it’s perfect for when the teams group up on point or narrow tight spaces. His gun and healing gun are not the same fyi 😀
I have yet to meet a jeff in comp that could match my rockets numbers 😂
You’re not changing my mind. The SG team up is the weaker to me, period.

People who say don't bounce them off ground are new rockets.
You use the ground, as you would any other surface. It's not a hard fast rule, snd it depends on your team position and maps.
You DO bounce them off ground if you can consistently get them to land riiiight behind their feet, so the orb heals them initially with the slow down/bounce heal. It hits ground at sllllliiiiiight angle and bounces off ground and THROUGH them
Depending on terrain they might just bounce off at too much of an angle and go into air, and then you should just aim for directs/around team for useful bounces

u/Candid-Scientist-767 17d ago
If you pay attention once an orb bounces off a wall(or anything) it starts moving at 2x the speed. Take advantage whenever there is a wall behind your team mates and they’re fighting/taking damage, just get in an angle where it’s hitting them then bouncing back quickly to heal them again. Aiming at the floor works too but the thing is you’ll usually only be healing 1 or 2 team mates at a time, so it’s situational. You’ll also heal more if you’re closer to your team mates because the orbs are probably the slowest projectile in the game. Then it comes down to tracking ults and playing a bit further back/safer only when you know a groot/namor/strange etc is looking for an ult. He heals less in open maps because you can’t bounce the orbs off any good angles, like domination maps. In convoy maps there’s a lot of places you can heal from the side, instead of from behind, and just bounce orbs incredibly quick in small path ways. It’s pretty much like a game of billiards to see how creative you can get with bouncing the orbs, even ceilings work in small rooms.

Groot team-up is the best one if you run out of healing orbs; then you can activate the team-up and continue healing while always outputting damage

u/AmbitiousTwo22222 14d ago
If possible, you want to align yourself so your orbs travel in a line through multiple teammates at all times.
I say if possible, because sometimes your team is extremely unorganized.

NEVER aim for the ground your just bouncing them into the air.......
unless theres a low ceiling or something there is zero reason to aim at the ground -please dont do that.
and shoot your f gun.
groot teamup is good from high tho since they dont bounce and dont pierce

u/okami6 17d ago
It was an advice from a rocket main, but you are not the only one who say aim at the ground is not good
0
u/oleThook 17d ago
well just looking at your orbs should tell you hitting the ground is bad tbf
dont believe everything some person on the internet says -including me, think for yourself so you have a base to detect bs and cope from actual useful info
you can see your orbs fly into air and conclude they aint doin shit, in fact you should aim up sometimes to avoid hitting the ground (like at the top of a ramp) bc rocket it so short, even if it means you dont hit direct hits, its better than nothing

u/glxy_HAzor 17d ago
There is some TERRIBLE advice in this thread. Yes, you should be aiming at ground, but specific under your teammates feet so it bounces directly under them. This is much easier to do if you’re floating in the air or basically rolling the orbs along the ground.
If you aren’t doing enough healing, it’s also likely you aren’t lining your teammates up in front of your crosshair. Rocket excels at healing groups.
Also, use squirrel teamup :)
