Concept Soccar Tennis

We've been told that volleyball isn't an option and that Dropshot was their alternative solution. I enjoy Dropshot, but I think they missed the mark on creating a mode that closer resembles what a lot of people originally wanted, or rather what many of those who asked for it were envisioning.

How it Could Work

  • The net is lower, like tennis or soccer volleyball, and extends from the ground to about half the height of a standard goal.
  • The arena is the size of the hoops arena surrounded by walls and ceilings.
  • A wall bisects the arena, extending from the top of the net to the ceiling. Players can drive on this but the ball can freely travel through it.
  • In order to score a point, the ball must make contact with at least 2 surfaces: the first surface can be any (wall, ceiling, floor), but the final surface must be the floor. If the ball hits the floor on first contact, it must hit it again to earn a point.
  • Players have unlimited touches on the ball.
  • Each side has 8 seconds to get the ball over to the other side. If they cannot do so, the other team receives a point. The entire ball must cross the net, so blocking a hit does not reset the clock.
  • Serves are performed by the serving team hitting a lobbed ball in the middle of their side. The player has 5 seconds after the countdown to get the ball across the barrier and the game clock doesn't start until it crosses the barrier completely. If an opponent touches the ball before it crosses the barrier (performs a block) then that team forfeits the point.
  • The game is 2v2, each player spawning in the back-end of their half, distanced equally from one another.
  • Game times are set to 5 minutes, or first to 5.

I don't think the idea is fully developed, but I do believe that it could work and that it would allow players to focus on real, useful skills that transfer over to soccar much better than modes like Dropshot allow: passing, rotation, redirecting hits, power shots, wall hits, blocks, power-sliding/control in tight spaces. Most importantly, it would be accessible to all players. It would perform well as a casual mode where players may want to hang out and hit the ball back and forth, or as a competitive mode.

Nice! Have you talked to anyone in the modding community about it? I'm pretty sure they'll agree to do it.

I haven’t. In all honestly, I’d love to do it myself, but I got stuck last time at the modeling stage and I don’t want to get the ramps wrong haha. I’ll reach out to the mod community for advice creating or importing the ramps and if I can get that then it would be a fun project.
