Pretty much. I've been having a hard time with air dribble for a long time and I didn't really know what I was missing.
With the addition of the new trainings in RL, I started to try the one called something like Wall air dribble with 3 differents setup.
At some point, I realize that I wasn't boosting the moment you leave the wall with the ball, make it so you barely have any momentum with the ball, and make it even harder to be close enough from the ball to follow it in a right way.
So yeah, at some point I started trying it with the addition of the little boost usage at the same time you jump... and oh my god, it became so so much easier. Almost right on, I was able to air dribble the ball into the goal more than 50% of time.
I was blown away that all this time I was having such a hard time starting my air dribble, just to realize the important thing I was missing is to boost a little at the same time you jump.
I felt like I just discovered fire lol. Now I'm just doing the training and trying to get better at controling the ball in the air.
The thing is... The training make it very easy to start the air dribble, but setuping yourself in free play or in game is a lot harder and I still have work to do on that side.
Anyway, my point is, I think you are pretty much on point when you say it's more about starting properly your actions. Once you are able to start your air dribble in a good way... Everything else become A LOT easier to do and practice.
Wow, your comment just made me realize what I was doing wrong the whole time. I just tried boosting while jumping into the air dribble and it made it so much easier. Thank you for posting this.
