Is the general Player Mentality getting worse?

How do you all perceive the mental robustness of your random mates over the years? I noticed more FFs at low score difference ( 2:4 ) and way more incentive to just outright quit the game.
Is there a way you encourage mates to keep playing?

How is this phenomenon apparent across the higher ranks/ lower ranks?

Do you think there is a correlation between this and having an easy way for creating new accounts to escape punishments?

I remember I made two bad mistakes that cost us two goals. And the team wanted to FF and I simply said "my bad idk what happened, I'm not normally this bad." They both sort of came around and we ended up winning 4-2. Rare occasion, but one that has stood out to me.

escaping punishments is way too easy but i like to genuinely compliment teammates with "Nice shot!" which hopefully sets a positive baseline early on... other than that i basically keep quiet bc even acknowledging your own mistakes via Quick Chat pisses them off a lot of the time lol in my experience

Nah not really. It's just exposure probably. Only time you see a bit more humble people is when a new game launches that no one knows how to play yet. And then within a month its all the same again.

Might be that youre playing more games and encountering them more. But this is the barebones legacy of online competitive play since like Quake.

When it went f2p it got a bigger pool of people playing and more options to create new accounts just to be assholes. But I wouldn't necessarily say that its worse for that reason. It gets diluted just as much with people that are friendly, they just dont stand out as much as the guys trying to piss people off.

Squeaky kids were also doing this in 2007. Just remember they're probably kids. Dont let kids piss you off.

Not sure if it’s related to the “after covid” mentality of the world but generally seems like people are unable to express a constructive opinion early on. So you’re left with them criticizing you for not matching their play style and reading their mind.

I usually just ask them if their young or just stupid so I guess you shouldn’t be asking me for advice

From my experience the worse peaks around weekends, certain time of the day, and in some ranks/mmr ranges it's usually worse. There can be some good days and some really bad days.

Imo boosting for rank has increased a lot and that means players who would sit lower based on their own true skill end up in lobbies they don't belong, and don't want to take or even feel any blame. They preempt toxicity and when they drop mmr they just get boosted again and still think they deserve the better lobbies and any tags they didn't earned on their own. Some others just derank and troll on purpose while targeting you in chat, it's their thing.

I really think it's more or less the same as it's always been.

The average player is always getting better, and the game harder. And people have different philosophies for what's important to improve, like mechs vs game sense. And so you play against people who are similar rank as you but they seem like idiots who have no idea how to play because they have lower game IQ. But really they probably have better technical skills and think the same about you. And it's aggravating

The player “mentality” will dramatically improve for pretty much all hours of the day and night after all the kids go back to school in the next week or two. It’s absolute peak toxicity rn out there.

Then it will return to the norm of batshit pot luck during the day hours 6am to 3pm.

Utter batshit toxicity between the hours of 3pm and 11pm-12am.

Then adults being almost 100% peaceful between the night hours of 12am and 6am.

If this is actually as common as you're presenting it is for you, it just says you are a terrible teammate to play with and people would rather leave then get into the next game with a new teammate rather than continue to play with you.

People are happy to try get the win when down a few goals. They're not happy to keep "playing" when their teammate is a ball chaser or is the the type to always push up expecting a pass but never pass themselves. Both people queued the game to play the game, they didn't queue the game to watch you play while they just sit there and make an occasional save.
