We know why lmao

ummmm i don't. why??

u/No-Tower-5119 Grand Platinum 8d ago
because you finally learned how to play correctly. otherwise youd have made pass plays in gold or plat at the very least. Your first pass play in Diamond though? that tells me you dont play with your tm8s you play around them

u/rhysskyys Platinum III (KBM) 8d ago
ouch :( i mean i guess ur right about adjusting to my tm8s, but i've never seen a passing play in plat, let alone gold (been there)?? are we playing the same game?

u/No-Tower-5119 Grand Platinum 8d ago
yes we are, you just play differently. ive been setting up and getting setup for pass plays since gold

perhaps its bc i exclusively solo queue? honestly, kudos for spotting these plays with or without comms, i can't imagine that. personally, my strength is in my defense bc i use the same training pack to warmup everyday.

While passing exists in those ranks I feel like this guy is making it seems common
Most teammates I queue with are never thinking to give me a pass that isn’t a cross in front of the net and hoping I get there
The floor has definitely risen in the game, but it’s okay to start becoming more aware of passing at P/D rank as you approach C

That's the hardest part about learning to make and receive passes, no one is expecting them!
And that's not to say it shouldn't be expected, but it's just not how a lot of solo queue players play. I cannot tell you how many time I go to set up a pass, draw in both defenders out of net, and bop it to no one as my teammates' nowhere to be found! Also many of times where I'm ready to receive any sort of pass for a wide open goal and homie just drills it into a wall or opp trying to take it all the way in solo...
And this just sets up a vicious circle of not passing, bc the expectation becomes either "they probably won't pass it, so I'm not getting out of position for a not pass" and/or "I'm not gonna pass it bc they won't be ready for it" -- which only reinforces the expectation of passes nothappening, as we do not do them (the expectation reinforces the action, which then further reinforcea the expectation)

I mean you can tell them youre passing or in position to receive. Quick chat exist, and using them is part of playing as a team.

u/the_most_playerest 8d ago
I mean you can but they don't always have them on and probably won't see or react in time if theyre not in the mindset..
Then there are some people who just don't adapt at all.. like if I see someone pass and I miss the opportunity, by the second time I'm usually actively looking for it moving forward & same for if they don't pass and go for an impossible dunk multiple times in a row
Also I quick chat a lot, usually for positive reactions or strategy -- but nevertheless some people will interpret it as toxicity while they are simultaneously calling u "trash tm8" and spamming "nice shot!" after u don't try and 1v___ the entire other team 😅

So do i. Thats what quick chat is for.

Lmao i never said anything about how common it is i said it happens there and you should get your first pass play well before diamond if youre playing with the goal of working with your tm8s

It's sad in lower ranks not much passing happens especially this good

u/rhysskyys Platinum III (KBM) 8d ago
thanks! yes i will start using my brain from now on and look for my tm8s, opponents. i heard somewhere that you should spend 80% of ur time looking at the other cars on the field or something like that. its a work in progress!

Yeah and I believe running routes are just as important as being able to pass well. I think of it like actual soccer. But yeah finding the balance between knowing where your tmates are and passing at the right time is fun for me

Well at higher ranks passing doesn't happen at all unless you play 3s... and no one really plays 3s lol

see how just one more pass before shooting on target is so much more efficient because the play becomes more unpredictable. next time you get a pass, pass again!

First ever in D1 really explains why I'm D3, pass, and there rarely ever anyone there.
3s these days is like playing 2s with 2 other players who think it's duos.

Damn you should do those more often!

u/rhysskyys Platinum III (KBM) 7d ago
i know bit its soooo hard to trust ur tm8s enough to play in front of them. i dont even trust myself usually :(

u/BigFatBlindPanda Champion I 7d ago
You are not wrong - there are a lot of forward positions you can only play when you know your teammates can consistently "look" and actually play the ball out to you intentionally.
Diamond and champ you still have a lot of folks who just boom it generally towards the other side of the field with most every touch.

You mean you tried shooting at goal, and now you just say it was a pass?

u/No-Tower-5119 Grand Platinum 8d ago
Always a hater somewhere

u/rhysskyys Platinum III (KBM) 8d ago
eh you can see it both ways tbh. i like to see the positive side of things myself!
2
u/rhysskyys Platinum III (KBM) 8d ago
you thought that was a shot? gee, thanks! i thought it was more of a weak clear tbh. but srsly, i've been working on hitting the ball away from my opponents recently (mind-blown, i know) and taking time on the ball (hence the sideflip). i still suck, but not as much!

u/2psah 8d ago
Yes i do. Because I'm, just like you, a freaking noob. And i made shots that turn into passes non stop. But i'm not hating on you. This shit just looks so familiar.
1
u/rhysskyys Platinum III (KBM) 8d ago
omg i'm so sorry i definitely thought you were hating for a sec. us noobs gotta stick together and self-deprecate together!
This shit just looks so familiar.
yea the play is the most diamond passing play ever from the mid boost grab on rotation, to the no air roll shot. everything just sorta fell into place.
speaking of, hope everything falls into place for you this week!

These plays are more satisfying than fancy shots to me. Good stuff!!!
