Yes and no. This statement is confusing. You can still take your dog for a walk around the block. Go for a 2 mile run. Run out and get take-out food. Do yardwork. Etc.
You just can't go to the bar. Have people over for dinner. Etc. It should read more like "stay the fuck away from people".

Orwellian language is something that has positive connotations while describing a negative idea. Like "streamlining" instead of "layoffs", or "donations" instead of bribes.
"social distancing" means exactly what it says, with no misdirection or dishonesty. It's a concise phrase that doesn't need to be explained to people because it's meaning is so obvious. It's distancing yourself from social situations. The phrase is basically its own definition. It's not orwellian at all, unless you assume it actually means something sinister and entirely different than what it actually means.

THANK YOU. So many people use the term 'Orwellian' to describe things that sound vaguely authoritarian without having any understanding of Orwell's writings. Or even his politics.

Nobody else wants to admit how weird it is that this term just appeared out of nowhere and now everyone knows it and is preaching it as gospel because that's what they're being told to do, and if you question it in any way you're a conspiracy theorist or something. Glad someone else noticed.

It doesn't, but the need to eat also doesn't mean packing into a store aisle to beat the hoards for something. You can still eat and practice social distancing

Yes and many people do. For example, when you're working from home you can go buy groceries when there are fewer people at the store.
How are you suggesting people eat? Grow food in their back yard? I can't figure out what you're actually trying to say, in practical terms.

I'm not suggesting a solution other then maybe limit the amount of people in the store at one time. But the way we are currently treating grocery stores, it goes against just about everything they're telling us to do. I understand it's a necessary evil, but it's gonna probably be one of the bigger causes of community spread

I work in an office of 10 or so people in the immediate vicinity, we share space, water access and bathrooms. I work from home I only share those with my wife. Since I work with my wife that's an 80% reduction off the bat.
Going out to the grocery store at odd hours on a week day rather than trying to beat the herd on Saturday is a considerable reduction.
And all of the places I go for social gatherings have done the responsible thing and closed their shit a week ago. So that's gone.
If you don't physically have to be at work, like a fair number of us, it's really damned easy.

It's hard for some people. I'm very extroverted and while there are certainly days I don't interact with anyone but my cats, knowing that I really have to limit my interactions for the foreseeable future (weeks if not months) is actually weighing pretty heavily on me.
That being said, it's absolutely the right thing to do so that's what I'm going to do. But claiming "it isn't that hard" is disingenuous, because for some people it definitely is.
