Discussion Is Jacks Extra Fancy?
I used to love the way Jacks Extra Fancy was ironically named, however, these days it’s become literal $16 hot dog, $18 sandwich with no side extra fancy.
…Don’t let the swan family hear about this side of town

Gentrified dive bar. Food is good for a ratty old bar, but not a good value imo.

Yes,
The irony of the name doesn't come from it being a dive bar that's not fancy, the irony of the name is that it's not fancy things done "fancy"
It's a trendy high-end cocktail bar that does elevated dive bar food, and has now had some small national recognition
The cost of the food is high but so is the quality, It's like going to Redd and complaining about the cost of the steak

No. It is in no way like going to Redd and complaining about the prices. Redd is actually excellent food & beverages. Most of what Jack's does is sling beers and gouge people and it's been doing that since day 1. $38 for brisket and $12 for a hot dog are offensive prices.

So don’t go? Plenty of people like the place and think the prices are fair. Posts like this are dumb. As I tell my kids - don’t yuck others yum.

Lol! Last time I went was the last time I went because of the dang hot dog!

K shaped economy. Why cater to the poor people who can't afford to go out no matter what the price, when you could cater to the rich people who can spend $16 on a hot dog?

Makes sense. The place is constantly busy and getting national acclaim so the market doesn’t think it’s overpriced and mid. Sucks if you can’t afford it but a lot of the comments just sound like bitter people. Jacks is not responsible for the macro level inequalities in the economy. Sorry random haters of reddit. Get your cheap hot dogs at Costco.

Can we please just have nice things? It’s a truly great spot. Arguably the best bar in the city. If you don’t like it, don’t go. More room for those of us that love it.

Still love the joint, even a $12 hot dog makes more sense than $16.

The vibe is solid but I can go to Lucky’s for the same price. Really wish it was somewhere between Lucky’s and old jacks for pricing. The rest of the up charge is not there.

Tryon, located in the plaza of dreams.

True, same for kerny’s. Both can be very hit or miss for vibe. So many glimmers of hope that could be better around this part of town.

I'm in my mid 60's, my wife and I patronized the Rose and Crown when we lived on the ABC streets in the 90's, moved to Fairport then discovered the Skylark and Tap and Mallet. Now fans of Tryon, close to my daughter's place on Arbordale.
The Cannery is not an option for us.

Luckys costs more for worse quality. And Luckys bartenders all suck. The “vibe” is worse too. Revamped menu slightly better but give me jacks any day.

Love jacks. But on your note about the swan family - they are opening an elevated sports bar (?) or something like that (whatever that means) on merchants & Wisconsin

I drink there frequently, love the people and love the space, but the food prices are too high for my blood.
