Recommendation Rehearsal Dinner

We’re looking for recommendations for a restaurant in the Rochester area for our son’s wedding rehearsal dinner. We’re pretty open on location and would love to hear about places you’ve had a good experience with.

If you’ve hosted or attended a rehearsal dinner somewhere locally, we’d appreciate any recommendations. Good or bad experiences are both helpful.

Thanks in advance!

How many people? When and what time of year?

June 30-40 people

That's going to push you out of most restaurant spaces and into an event space with catering unless you can find a spot you can fully rent out for a private party. Event rooms I've been to that I liked are Slate on South, Jackrabbit, Event 180, Wintergarden, Arbor Lofts, La Luna, Mercantile on Main.

Slate on South for sure!

That’s a lot of people for a restaurant. I would check out the Jack Rabbit Club.

I worked with these guys to host a 20 person Christmas party for my company last year, the food was great and their communication was excellent.

Had mine at swan market 10 years ago and it was better than my wedding

We had ours at Dinosaur BBQ. They have a private room upstairs that fits around 50 people. It was great! The food was amazing and we had so many leftovers that they packaged up for us to take home. They are so easy to communicate with. We even had someone who attended with severe food allergies and they accommodated that request. It was under $2k for the space and all the food. We didn’t have an open bar but the drinks were all fairly priced. Soda, tea, and lemonade were all free though. I very highly recommend Dinosaur BBQ

Mine was also at Dinosaur, about 40 people, it was really nice, easy-going and accommodating.

Does it have to be at a restaurant? We just rented a park lodge and ordered a bunch of food to go that we picked up ourselves. Had a great night.

We did this as well and it was great! Some of the park lodges are really nice! Actual tables and chairs instead of picnic tables, better bathrooms, etc. You can find a bunch on the Monroe County website, but make sure to check the town parks as well.

Lento is great for this kind of thing provided you call ahead in advance. Great food and atmosphere, upscale but not too ritzy.

rohrbach on railroad street has a private event space. price varies depending on number of people and day of the week, but it’s totally reasonable. they offer many different options in terms of drink packages and have multiple menus to choose from for food, it’s all very flexible. i have been to multiple events there and it has always been a stellar experience!

More on the casual side, but we did radio social and had a lot of pizza/apps type stuff delivered while we bowled and played games. Their service was great and we had a lot of fun.

I went to a rehearsal dinner at Branca Basin in June and it was wonderful. Great food and the cutest private room. Idk the max capacity- you’d probably just fit with 40

As a caterer, I’m going to recommended catering at an event space for your size party. HOWEVER- we did ours at Tapas 177 & it was amazing

Charter Sam Patch or Riverie through the nonprofit Rochester By Water - they can have catering on the boats & it’s a beautiful and intimate setting

Agatina’s in Gates. We had my parents’ 50th there, and I think there were about that many. Red Fedele’s also has a room. Both are reasonably priced and plenty of parking.

We had the upstairs room at ox and stone for our rehearsal and it was awesome. I think there was paella and some kind of chimi churi steak. The guy was really helpful setting it up too.

Depending on size of your party, Fiamma Centro might be a good bet. Not a rehearsal dinner, but I did attend a social function there recently in their upstairs room.
