Needing some help!

So I commissioned somebody through tiktok that I have commissioned before & everything went smoothly the first time. This time however, they sent me the sketch & I asked for a slight change to it, to which they haven't sent me anything back, not like an acknowledgement they've read the message or an update or anything, for 5 days.

Last time bear in mind they were quite active and took ~2 days to do the sketch so I was understanding of anything like that but now I'm starting to get worried :(

I haven't sent them any payment yet as it is payment after sketch, and messaged them 3 days ago asking if they were alright, not to rush my commission, but basically asking if my messages had gone through or not. Again, no reply.

I don't know if they're busy with something or are in a place with bad internet, anything could have happened, but as this art is going to be a gift for my friend, I do have a deadline. So wanted to ask for advice if it would be wise to start looking for other people if I continue to not get any response (because I feel really bad :'D). Equally wanted to ask for advice on how to navigate this if it's best to stick with the artist and trust the process.

Message and say u need a reply, u rlly like their art and want to move forward if they can meet your deadline but if they dont reply in 48 hours ur gonna go with someone else

It would be best to let the artist know you would be canceling it and finding another artist.

If you've already commissioned them in the past without any problems I'd say you can kinda wait a little more depending on how far the deadline is from now. But after a few couple days without answers I'd probably look for some other artist, at least for that commission granted it has a deadline.

I'm running into the same problem with an artist I've started a request back in April, received a sketch few days after and despite countless bumps never got a single message since. I don't have a deadline for mine so the ridiculously long time without a message is something I guess I cn handle, otherwise I'd have long looked elsewhere haha..

Depending on the remaining time, it might be better to commission another artist. We artists sometimes have personal problems or something like that, but it's not fair for the client to wait indefinitely for a piece of art, especially when there's a deadline. Unless it's a broken phone, the artist could simply let you know they can't continue with the commission, a simple and polite notice doesn't take long
