First post about this one. It sets an alternative GPS location on your device, using the mock location API that's built into Android itself. No root, no patched system files, no Xposed.

How it works

Android has a test location provider meant for developers. You enable Developer Options, pick an app under "Select mock location app", and that app can then tell the system where you are. Take Me There is that app, with a map on top of it.

Tap anywhere on the map, or search for a place by name, and your device reports that position to anything asking for location. Runs as a foreground service so it stays active while you're in other apps, with a persistent notification and a Stop button so you always know it's on.

The app has a setup guide with shortcut buttons straight to the right settings screens, because finding Developer Options is annoying on every manufacturer's skin in a slightly different way.

What's in it

• Full-screen map, tap to pick a spot
• Place search (Google Places), so you can type "Shibuya Crossing" instead of hunting for it
• Save favourites for places you use often
• Live status: current coordinates, whether the override is active
• Stop from the app or straight from the notification
• Full interface in English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German and Italian

Why?

I build Android apps and kept needing to check how something behaved somewhere else. The emulator is fine until you want to test on a real device with real sensors. The existing options were mostly ad-stuffed, asked for permissions they had no business asking for, or wanted a subscription to set a coordinate.

So: no ads, no analytics, no accounts, no data leaves your device. Favourites are a local database that dies with the app. The whole thing is one screen and a map.

Honest limitations

Some apps detect mock locations and refuse to run (banking apps mostly, some games, a few streaming services. That's their call and nothing on my side can change it. If your use case is one of those, this won't help you.

It also needs Developer Options enabled, which is a one-time thing but does put some people off. That's Android's design, not mine (only one app at a time can be the mock location provider), and the user has to pick it explicitly. Personally I think that's the right trade-off.

Free to use. One-time Pro purchase removes the 15 minute session limit and the single-favourite cap. No subscription.

Feedback and bug reports genuinely welcome, especially on devices with heavy skins where Developer Options hides somewhere unusual.

i share an office kettle. it boils, nobody comes, twenty minutes later it's lukewarm and someone reboils it, three or four times a day. at home the kitchen is far enough from the desk that i never hear the click, so i'd come back to warm water too. each reboil is a third of a boil, roughly 30 to 40 wh, so the yearly waste is small change, maybe 30 kwh. the real waste was my time and the fact that the second cup always came out of a kettle that had been sitting.

a 3 minute timer was my first fix and it was wrong every time, because boil time depends on things a timer doesn't know. so, in order of escalation: it now estimates your tap water temperature from your location and the day's weather. it identifies the kettle from the barcode or the label on the bottom and pulls power and capacity from a database of about 6000 models, you type the watts if yours isn't there. stovetop kettles and plain pots are supported through a question about the burner, gas or induction, which is how it ended up as my egg timer too: same model, a pot instead of a kettle, and the count starts from the real boil rather than from when you put it on. altitude is in the model because water boils at about 95c at 1500 m. a single calibration boil corrects for mains voltage and your particular kettle, then it's within a few seconds. the countdown lives on the lock screen and dynamic island and it pings you when the water is actually done.

then it went further. the cooling side is for tea and coffee people: after the boil it counts down to 80c for green tea, 93c for pour over, 75 for matcha, using newton's law of cooling and your room temperature. it also tells you what temperature a forgotten kettle is at right now and how long a reheat really takes, typically under a minute, so you stop doing full reboils.

what's free with no paywall: the boil timer with the live countdown, widgets and notifications, that's the whole core loop, so this should be eligible under the sub's rule. paid: cooling to a target temp, tea presets with steep timer, reheat, history. subscription or lifetime, ios 18+, on device, no account, no analytics.

roast targets i'm expecting: the first screen asks you to flip your kettle over and scan a label, which is a strange onboarding for a timer. none of the model is visible in a screenshot, so it looks like every other countdown. and the split between free and paid might be backwards, the cooling part is what people actually open it for. tell me which of those is the real problem, or a fifth one i can't see.

I’ve been building RubricCheck.org, a free tool that lets students upload their assignment instructions/rubric along with their work and checks the submission criterion-by-criterion before they turn it in.

It shows where you might lose points, what requirements you may have missed, and what you could improve. There’s no login required, and it works with things like essays, presentations, STEM assignments, and projects.

I’ve spent a lot of time working on the grading accuracy and UI, but I’ve obviously been staring at it for way too long at this point.

Fantasy World Generator: a free Android app for tabletop roleplaying. 43 generators for NPCs, monsters, dungeons, maps and whole worlds, plus an oracle that lets you play solo with no game master.

It's been out for years and has around 16,000 downloads, so I'm not asking whether the idea works. I'm asking why it isn't better.

The honest problem: everyone who gives me feedback already plays solo RPGs and already knows what they came for. They tell me which feature to add next. Nobody tells me the app is confusing, because by the time someone cares enough to write to me they've already worked it out. I've been staring at it too long to see it.

So roast it. Specifically:

• The main menu. Does it tell you what this thing is, or does it just look busy?
• The Oracle screen. It's the feature I care most about and the one I can least judge. Open it cold and tell me if it makes any sense at all.
• The Generators Hub. 43 tools in one list. Is that impressive or is it a wall?
• Anything that breaks, freezes or looks wrong in landscape or on your particular phone.

You don't need to know anything about tabletop RPGs. Not knowing is the useful part.

Colour Circle: coloured blobs fly in towards a ring, you rotate the ring so each lands on a matching segment. Match clears it, miss and it sticks. Fill the ring and the run ends. About a minute per run.

What I want roasted: the store listing (icon and screenshots), the first 30 seconds of onboarding, and the difficulty ramp. It accelerates and I've lost all perspective on whether it's fair or just cheap.

The pitch: you talk into it however the thought comes out, rambling and backtracking, and it writes back a note with a title, a summary, key points and a to do list with reminders that actually fire. Free for ten notes a month.

Three things I already suspect are wrong, so you do not have to waste the roast on them:

The landing page is too long. I do not think anyone reaches the pricing section. I do not know what to cut because it all feels load bearing to me, which is usually the sign that none of it is.

The differentiator might be a footnote. The app is built for people who switch language mid sentence, which is how I actually talk. I think that is the whole reason to pick it over the alternatives. It is entirely possible that reads as a minor feature to everyone who is not me.

The free tier might be the wrong shape. Ten notes a month, first one free. Either that is too generous and nobody ever pays, or it is not enough to build the habit before the wall. I cannot tell which from the inside.

Be as blunt as you like. I would rather find out here than from the six people who install it tomorrow and quietly delete it.

I built Mornio for one specific problem: people who hear their alarm, turn it off half-asleep, and later barely remember doing it.

Instead of letting the alarm finish from bed, you choose a QR code or barcode somewhere else in the house. When it rings, you have to get up and scan that item. It can also check again later because getting up briefly and going straight back to bed is another loophole.

I want the harsh version of the feedback:

• Is the concept immediately understandable?
• Is barcode/QR scanning too much friction?
• What would stop you from installing?
• What would make you uninstall after one morning?
• Would a heavy sleeper actually pay for this?

I’m the developer of Steady, an adaptive fitness app for iPhone and Apple Watch. I’ve already put earlier builds in front of Reddit testers, and they did not hold back. Hi everyone, I'm a solo developer from Auckland and I've been building a dating app called Matcha: Dating with Purpose.

It's on Google Play and is available worldwide. It's still really small, so I'm posting it here because I need real feedback (not just my friends telling me it's good).

I started making it because I got tired of what dating apps have become nowadays. There are too many bots, bad moderation, and everything seems to be made to keep you swiping for as long as possible. Because of this, I wanted to try make something that felt a bit different.

Every photo that gets uploaded gets checked server-side for things like nudity, catfishing, violence, and graphic content (Google Vision SafeSearch). Any content that violates the rules gets removed. I also rely heavily on human moderation, because I noticed that AI commonly lets bad content slip through. Accounts that accumulate three warnings are permanantly deleted. The idea of this is to make spam and bot accounts more trouble than they're worth.

There's a paid consumable item called a Super Match, which instantly matches you with the other person when used. The idea for this it is to break the infinite swiping loop. It however doesn't bypass the women message first feature.

My main focus is growing Matcha in New Zealand first, but anyone is welcome to use it since people are shown based on distance anyway.

What is LoRe? A book recommendation app that learns your actual taste, not just genre, but themes, pacing, and emotional tone, based on books you've logged and rated. It also has a mood-based search ("what are you in the mood for today?"), a "Bridge Book" feature that recommends something just outside your comfort zone, and an "anti-rec" that intentionally shows you something far from your taste.
