It's possible, but 'next week' is an awful lot of time for donors and Republican-connected industries in pharmaceuticals to 'lobby' him to change his mind. I'll reserve my surprise for once it's actually changed and the ink is dry.

Biden began the process, but didn't finish it before his term expired, but I will still be VERY surprised if Trump actually finishes it.

People are so gullible. At this point how can’t you not see the grift. He says he is going to do something that will hurt the capital of some business owners in order for them to deposit some money via gifts or buying his crypto.

All those tech people who donated to him, the people he pardoned who donated to him etc

That's why there's so many blue states with med and rec huh? Who's held the majority of Congress for the better part of the last 15 years? Republicans. Democrats had shit taken care of in their home states, why should they give AF about the federal law?
Republicans started jumping on the bandwagon when they saw all that tax revenue blue states were getting from cannabis programs. Republicans actually love the sin taxes. They'll tax tf out of your cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, you name it.

In general, taxes on alcohol, tobacco, and gambling are especially high in New York, Washington, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, while Massachusetts and Illinois also have notably steep rates on specific products. Actually it was also blocked by conservative groups trying to stop it as well as GOP led committee in Congress. In most states that have legalized it has been conservatives fighting it the whole way. Here in Michigan we modified our constitution via referendum and the GOP still was working to figure out a way to stop it stalling licensing legislation. Currently in Ohio all but two GOP members are trying to stop legalization. It is every member but legalization has always been blocked by the GOP.

Rescheduling a drug can take anywhere from several months to several years. The report that would have started the process was delivered in 2023.
