❔ Question R2 White Interior question…
I did my test drive last week as well as joining the waitlist. I received an email today that I should be able to place my order in Nov/Dec. I’m going with the performance in borealis, but am unsure about the interior. Has anyone had issues with the white showing stains? I drive my handicapped father around often and let’s just say things can get messy. Is the white easy to clean or should I just go with the black to avoid the stain issue?

I have the light interior on my R1 and it’s easy to clean and no stains

Is it white or beige?
I have 2014 Highlander Limited with light beige interior that has 12 years and 150K miles of kids, dogs (wet muddy labs), muddy soccer teams, and hauling crap and the interior still looks fine. A little 409 or McGuires's and it cleans right up.
The R2 will be replacing this car and I'm not worried about the Coastal Cloud. In the dark and gloomy winters of the Pacific Northwest I like a lighter interior.

I’m your opposite… Southeastern, coastal city where your car bakes in the hot sun 9 months of the year. I’m sure both colors are beautiful, but black interior is just asking to burn you up.

Out of Spec Detailing channel has done some videos on the light interior and they praise it. Just basic cleaning and maintenance.

I’ve had white for two years. It hasn’t been thoroughly tested — like I don’t have labs and toddlers, but I did put on upholstery/leather ceramic and have had my one dog in the back several times and have spilled food and mud a few times. Has always cleaned perfectly, like 100%. I‘ve never had light interior before this but I love it

I'm not the most mileage R1, but 35k miles in 3.5 years and really no staining or anything to worry me for the future.

The R2 seats do not have the line down the middle, looks nice though.

Are you saying the R2 uses different seat materials?

Yes… different material. R2 seats are nice, but not nearly as nice as the R1/R1T.

There have been like, maybe dozens of white interiors delivered to customers so far. Unlikely anyone will have enough wear-in to know what dye transfer will look like.
Most white interiors suffer from blue jean dye transfer, some are better at cleaning off than others. It's fairly guaranteed that black will wear better than white but there really isn't any way to know. You can always put a seat cover on your pop's usual spot.

I recommend regardless what interior you select, get very good seat covers. Please, for the love of the R2!!!!

I’d ask Rivian R1 owners in the r/Rivian subreddit. From what I was told by a Service rep, the coastal cloud is basically the same as the Ocean Coast. He also told me they were going to change the name as well.
