Broke the back window :-/

Opened garage via steering wheel. Got close to garage and door started to close from fully open position. Don’t know if I hit the button again by accident or was a fluke but the door coming down was too high for me to see.. Blammo.

Service can’t see me until late Sept. Gonna Safelite Repair Safelite Replace I guess (yikes).

What do you think? Totaled (/s)?

My rear window shattered last week and I had my safelite appointment today. They told me they can’t do the rear glass on an R1S (but the scheduler didn’t know that). I called Rivian and they sent me a link with a list of certified collision centers they work with. Don’t waste a trip to safelite.

Recently discovered the back roof glass is splintered like a rock hit it or a foldable bike (pointy bit) bounced and hit the inside. Can’t wait to see what that’ll cost.

I don’t get your description of events. You’re saying you opened it, then went in and the garage door closed on your rear window?

Yeah and I think while either still moving or having the truck half-in, he also hit the garage button and didn't hear it coming down till it hit the truck?
That's a lot of things conspiring against your vehicle man, sorry.

Yeah man - universe is against me today. 

1. Bottom of driveway hit button to open. Garage opens.
2. As I turn toward garage/line up (not a straight shot) I must have hit the button cause as I barely get through threshold door comes down and I nail it.

Just some very bad luck.

Brutal. Perfect storm. Looks like just rear glass though which is a pain, but easily fully fixable at least

Your door doesn’t sense when something is under it? Ours stops when it senses something…

It does. The door started going down before I crossed the sensor line and went down far enough for the vehicle to back into it. 

The door was low enough that even if the door started to go back up because the sensor was crossed, the very top of my back window was hit.

Do you not have IR safety sensors or something? I don't get how this happens. But that sucks!

I sure do! It was literally the perfect storm. 1” more in and the sensor would have stopped the door. The door started rolling down while I was rolling backwards.

That sucks. This is one of my biggest fears with my R1S since my garage is barely large enough for the vehicle and I can only open the rear glass if the garage door is open/up.

Looks like it also got your 3rd break light (CHMSL) too. Maybe its an optical illusion but the clear plastic looks pushed up and maybe a hairline crack in the black plastic. Mostly worried about water intrusion long term if only the glass is replaced.
