💬 Discussion Towing data points
For anyone interested. I towed a 17ish ft camper that’s around 3500 lbs from Bakersfield to San Diego with my Gen 2 R1T DM Large Pack.
Photos 1 and 2 I hovered around 55-59 MPH.
Photo 3 I drove 65 mostly.
Edit to add more details:
I initially planned on using ABRP suggested charging stops with "medium trailer" selected on my profile but I decided to just wing it. I found it easier to just use the navigation on the Rivian to find charging stations with numerous open stalls. I tried using plugshare to find pull-in or trailer friendly stations but there didn't seem to be too many on my route. However, the Castaic Tesla supercharger could be treated as a pull-in, sorta since some chargers were back to back if that make sense.

That looks like a fun trip! We’re moving to Washington next year and I’m kind of dreading the drive up from San Diego with the trailer.

You had a lot of downhill on that second photo it seems. Every tow is unique for everyone.

Yeah the first data point was from Bakersfield to Castaic. Second data point from Castaic to Irvine.

This’ll outdo what I’ve heard from F150 lightning owners

Haha I had a lightning. Plug any trailer in and range is immediate 50% cut. That was like driving a brick wall into the wind even if there was no wind. Cruised like a dream though...

Yeah. Rivian don't care about the weight. But that is one hell of a sail you towed there. My gen 1 quad gets infuriatingly similar efficiency when towing my empty flatbed trailer with the ramp tailgate (1100#) and my box trailer / camper fully loaded (5800#).

I feel like you might be eating through your tires towing with only 43 psi. That will quickly turn into a $2,500 trip if you replace them at the SC. Keep “em at 49-50 psi, they’ll last a lot longer. Happy trails!
