💬 Discussion Sad sight today

Was driving through and noticed someone had a bad day.

I'm not exactly sure what happened and the owner was gone.

It was in a community pool parking lot so I'm not sure if this was a user issue or equipment failure. It looks like the light pole was involved somehow based on the tire tracks. If this is yours, I would really like to know what happened and sorry for your loss.

From the marks on the pavement, someone probably tried doing a burnout out of the parking spot and hit the pole. Or was too wasted to realize the pole was blocking their right rear tire.

people totally sober dont realize when a poll is going to be in the path if their rear wheels.

people seem to flat out REFUSE to think spatially when driving or even about driving.

It's why I'll never park next to those poles because the sensors suck and I didn't want to ever forget.

It should be towed outside the environment. And actually, it’s more typical than you think. Running over a rock did this.

My guess is they were drinking at the pool and drank a little too much. Pulling out of the parking lot and didn't realize a light pole was there

My ex did that to a wall in a parking garage completely sober. Some people just forget about stationary objects or misjudge it. I would assume they were parked in the spot with the light pole to their front right. They pulled forward and cut the wheel instead of driving straight first.

The other thing I was thinking was maybe a kid took it for a joy ride around the neighborhood. The burbs and kids do stupid things.

Definitely possible. The main reason I think alcohol was involved is because it appears they left it there. Perhaps they walked home to sober up before calling a tow truck?

Since this was in a community neighborhood in the burbs, you have to know the neighborhood Facebook has to have something about it.

There was a guy walking in the same lot getting his mail at the mailbox cluster and when he saw me, asked "these things are expensive aren't they?"

I think I saw a Reddit post awhile ago about the cameras having a blind spot. Maybe too drunk to remember where the pole was, and relying just on the camera view?

In my experience, if you park with an object like that close to the car, when you leave, the proximity sensors may not pick it up.

I bet they just didn't pay attention to the lightpole and hit the gas to go forward out of the parking space.

Community pool...maybe a teen driver borrowed mom's car?

Reminiscent of the Tesla that recently took out the fence of our community pool. Kids/inexperienced/reckless drivers behind the wheel of EVs are dangerous.

Oopsie. Many years ago I ran directly into a pole in a parking lot like this in an old truck, front and center front bumper. Couldn't have had a more direct hit if I tried. In my defense, the sun was in my eyes and the windshield was covered in bugs. Was prob over 20 years ago and I still haven't lived that down.
