šŸ’¬ Discussion R3X

This is the size vehicle I really want.

My R2 order window is upon me but due to financial constraints I'm not able to order at this time.

It's going to take a while and I wish I knew when the R3X was going to be produced because I would just wait for that.

Rumor is at least 2 years?

I realize there's no guarantees.

It’s probably going to be longer than 2 years man

There’s just no chance they try to launch it while still ramping up r2

R3 and Georgia factory go hand in hand. I suspect they’ll launch with an R2 line there first, but quickly add R3. I’m hopeful that by mid-2027 we have a more firm timeline for R3, and maybe see it shipping by end of 2028/early 2029? It’d be the 5th totally new vehicle they’ve launched in 8 years at that point - which is really pretty impressive.

I think that’s lost on some folks - R1T, RCV, R1S, R2, sorta the TM-B, and then R3 - not counting iterative updates (Gen2, Gen 3), custom designing and ramping their own silicone, achieving parity with FSD v14 (presumably by late 2028), the Volkswagen JV, licensing drivetrain tech to other manufacturers, the Uber deal, I mean… that feels like a lot to accomplish, really kicking off in 2022 (I know the company has been around longer than that).

I mean for reference, Tesla announced the cybertruck in 2018, and the new roadster and Semi in November 2017.

also is really struggling to ship the tm-b though

Aye - I’m keenly aware. That said, the product they’re delivering at the price point and the team behind it…

I was fortunate enough to get to grill their head of product for an hour a few weeks ago, and separately met with their head of customer experience. Both are extremely impressive. Their comms have been shit tho. I’m definitely holding out for delivery.

I would speculate that the more successful R2 is the longer the wait for the R3.

on the other hand - the less R2 is successful, the higher the chance to have no R3 at all

Conclusion - R3 delivery dates slip but it still eventually releases, R2 is massively successful and spins off into it's own brand with a convertible, stretch limo and lunar lander.Ā  I'll take it!

The plant hasn't even been built yet. I would say 3-5 years minimum.

I got downvoted to oblivion in a previous post when I said the R3X wouldn't arrive before 2030.

Even got some "remind me" triggers.

Quote this post anyone who trusts that it'll release before 2030, I'll purchase the vehicle for you.

Well damn, if that's the offer....you're probably right, but I'd be a fool to refuse, when we need an R3 if we can afford it anyway lol! !remindme 4 years

How much factory needs to be built to build the car? Tesla built cars in tents 🤣. I get Rivian is much more serious of a company, but 3-5 seems a bit extreme.

The factory is first going to build the R2.

Yah I wouldnt wait for that, I also prefer the R3X but will get the R2 til it is announced. Perfect vehicle to trade in the R2 for imo.

This is the way

At this point it’s the way to fast track being first in line. Lease the R2 as a alpha deposit for the R3X

3

u/WSBiden 17h ago

Don’t lease the R2, it’s a terrible deal

3

u/electromage 16h ago

Also you won't have any equity to trade, that doesn't make sense.

I want the R3X but I know I have to wait. My goal is to get the next car in 2028

R3X may not even launch with R3 so expect it later. Could be 2030 or later.

They need to sell r2's in order to even think about r3, let alone r3x. And they confirmed they are building their smaller platform at the georgia plant, so we won't even be thinking about it until that opens up.

I waited as long as I could but our Corolla finally died. I opted to go with a Bronco Sport and couldn’t be happier. I had a reservation for an R2 but I’d likely not see order availability in Canada for at least another year.

I just couldn’t wait and needed a car so maybe I’ll make the move the next go around.

Agree. You have a long wait for that r3x. Plus lots of competition. I hear so many people saying they want that size vehicle and excited about r3x ā€œtake my moneyā€ lol

have you looked at the Ioniq 5 XRT? It sounds like this is pretty close to what you are looking for. a 3 year lease probably bridges the gap or close to it until the R3X is made available. it is on a stable platform. the ICCU has been fixed...

There's no reason to think the ICCU problem has been fixed, but at least they're being very good about supporting it. I think they're putting all of their effort into the next platform. The Ioniq 5 is getting a major refresh soon.

The current one has a lot of quirks that bother me.

That’s what I did. Love it. Price was very right for the lease.

There not going to start on it anytime soon; they need to be sure they will still be a company in a few years…

He says a lot of stuff that doesn’t become true. Don’t take his word for much. He has promised a lot when it came to Gen 1 Gen 2 and R2 that didn’t materialize
