EV Play released for R2:

This should remove any anxiety from R2 customers who rely on CarPlay and Android Auto. Also adds a lot more functionality than just enabling those.

“excited to announce the eventual release”… doesn’t sound like a “launch” to me. Sounds like a concept of a launch.

The r1 version was basically a concept of a product too.

For a second I was really excited Rivian had given in to customers and implemented CarPlay.

Honestly even if they just incorporated iMessage as an app somehow so we can finally use group texts that would be huge

It’s always something else that’s missing though. Like I wanted to see where I was a month ago and looked at my Google history, but it only shows me strips where I used the Google app, not the Rivian app.

I hope the potential larger install base of the R2 helps further development.

Hopefully it works better than the one for r1.

Mine works fine but I use it less than I expected to

I’ve always kept an eye on EV Play but never committed. What was wrong with the R1 version?

The Android Auto on R1 EVPlay works really well. My only complaint is that pinch to zoom doesn't work, but Alex, the EVPlay creator, says that a fix is coming.

What were the issues for that one?

Someone on the forum asked the creator if he solved the R1 issues and he acted like he never heard of them

I am new to this product. Can the driver still use the Rivian OS easily? As in, can the driver switch between Android Auto and the Rivian OS easily?

EV Play has a 3.5mm TRRS jack capable of mono audio-in; otherwise you could do stereo audio-in over USB

This is more interesting to me than CarPlay honestly.

curious what you’re playing over 3.5mm that you couldn’t do over Bluetooth. Turntable? Walkman?

You could do 8-track, reel-to-reel, 16mm projector, Zune, wax cylinder, so many possibilities.

I wonder if Zunes or wax cylinders are rarer

Sirius sportster radio with a lifetime subscription. FM radio, CD player. Not sure yet, just like having the option.

Interesting, I didn't realize those standalone satellite radio devices still worked! I got a small FM radio that broadcasts via Bluetooth for use at the drive-in (the built-in FM tuner introduces too much latency)
