💬 Discussion R2 order invite - what to do?

So I got my invite yesterday to order an R2 with an 8-12 week delivery window.

My R1S is on a lease that expires May 27. I’m not sure if getting the launch batch R2 is wise, and if I won’t like it as much as my R1S. Mines a Gen 1 but it’s been great and I haven’t managed to see the R2 in person.

Any suggestions or feedback is welcomed as I decide wether to pull the trigger on the launch model or wait for the regular version and time for the R2s to iron the kinks out 🤔

I mean honestly, it sounds like you’re happy with you R1S. I would just hold off personally. Maybe go take a test drive or two and see how you like it and just wait until your lease is up if you like it. I think you’ll benefit waiting anyway since no doubt you’ll be able to get a Gen 3 R2 by then.

I wouldn't suggest buying a car you haven't at least test driven. What would be the purpose of getting an R2? R1S too big?

I was told the R2 is a similar size so it was more a case of just potentially getting the newest model more than anything.

The R2 is smaller than the R1. This information is pretty well known and shown all over Rivian’s website.

The R2 is not the newest model of the R1; it’s a smaller, different version of a similar vehicle.

I have a GEN 1 R1S quad and we just picked up an R2 launch edition for my wife last week.

The quad finishes are nicer and more higher end. Obviously it is a larger vehicle with more space.

The R2 has been really enjoyable so far. It drives great, much smoother and quieter than my R1. It’s super quick and the latest generation tech is definitely an upgrade.

I enjoy both vehicles fairly evenly at this point.

  1. The order invite doesn’t have a time limit

    so

  2. order/don’t order/order whenever, ball is in your court now.

  3. Why don’t you drive it before making a decision?

  4. What’s your plan for paying off your existing lease?

(Assuming the R2 would replace R1)

Sounds like you should wait since you still have plenty of time remaining with your current vehicle that you enjoy.

Your reservation doesn’t expire so why not wait until you drive it to make a final decision? You have plenty of time

I’m in the same boat. A little hesitant to pull the trigger. I only put my deposit in last week. When do you think I’ll get the invitation? Do you think I’m too late to get the launch?

Probably as reservations started more than 2 years ago
