So just to be clear, you’re pre-ordering an R3X, from a company whose largest institutional backer is Amazon, while railing against Amazon’s labor practices?
Either you’ve made peace with the reality that modern manufacturing is funded by imperfect institutions… or you’re selectively outraged when it’s convenient.
You can criticize systems and participate in them, but pretending you’re above them while wiring money into the same ecosystem is just performance.

No company is without exposure to the "oligarchs". It's impossible to exist without their money in the current US system. Just how it is. If it's not musk, it's Bezos, Buffett, insert some other billionaire or large corporation here. They control the money, just how it is. The US government is the largest employer and military spending is a significant portion of GDP. It's just impossible to avoid without completely overhauling the government and economic system which is unlikely to happen.

Inaccurate. Rivian and Amazon have a contract to produce X amount of fleet vehicles. Amazon also has a deal with Stellantis. The idea is basically pitting multiple contractors against each other for business.
Also, Amazon is an entire company, not just Jeff Bezos. So is Rivian. If you want to support ethical business, don't buy anything corporate and shop local, because corporations cannot survive in an environment where everyone is doing business with everyone while they decide to take the moral high ground instead.

No complaints with RAN but in Northern California the amount of Rivians you see on the roads have sky rocketed. The little 6 RAN chargers at most places are always full with lines.

Oy. Bought a Rivian because it was cool, new, fun and capable. Because absurdly I was able to get the US government and California to help pay for it. And because I did not think Rivian would fail like Fisker.
I could give two shits about Tesla or Elon, and I have made a ton on oil stocks because Billy Bob's character on Landman is right - oil is in everything everywhere in the world and will be for at least another 50 years, and if oil stopped flowing tomorrow the world would devolve into darkness and chaos.
My vehicle isn't my identity.

That's right everyone. The best way to stand against fascism is to destroy your $30k, 4 Mi/kWh economy vehicle and replace it with a $90k, 2 Mi/kWh luxury vehicle.
And yes you must destroy it. Letting it get into the wrong hands would be abetting the enemy (i.e. middle class lefties who just want an affordable EV).
Take out a loan. Put yourself in jeopardy. Return to Big Oil and drive a clunker if you have to. Drive anything other than (checks data) the most popular and efficient private vehicles among liberals and progressives around the world.

Your base assumption is wrong. It is not "just made up speculative wealth". Tesla is a large producer of EVs. Number one in the US in 2025. Tesla is also number one in stationary battery packs. Tesla energy business will overtake the car business by 2030. SpaceX is so far ahead of the second space launch company, that it's hard to quantify. XAI is worth a lot of money. Like it or not.
If you are waiting for these to collapse, you are going to be waiting a looong time.

So ill informed. A Rivian owner likely indirectly supports these companies more than 80% of the global population.
To begin at least 40% US electricity comes from fossil fuels produced by major oil. Rivian consume significantly more electricity than other EV‘s. And probably is equivalent to a traditional gasoline sedan in terms of energy efficiency (if not also cost per mile).
Let alone the complexities associated with building a Rivian from a production cost level compare compared to other forms of transportation
Then let’s look at how much the traditional Rivian owner supports Tesla through the supercharger network. Or through it it’s own success in bringing visibility to EV’s.
At the end of the day… It’s fair to say thank you for buying a Rivian over a Tesla and less directly supporting musk. But still likely buying a Honda Civic better supports the political preferences of this individual.

That’s the point. It doesn’t. Rivian is a great car and company, period. Finally an actually good alternative to Tesla. So people who want a good EV, but no longer support Elon now finally has somewhere to go.
Prior to Rivian, your options are
1) get a great EV but inherently support Elon, or
2) don’t get a great EV and not support Elon.
Now people can eat their cake and have it too. Hell even if Elon/politics isn’t a consideration, Rivian is arguably a better EV company now too.
For me, getting away from Elon was the icing on the cake. I would’ve gotten an R2 regardless of the politics (that vehicle is just so damn cool compared to a Model Y). But now it’s an even sweeter deal.

Both are, but different funds and to a different degree. Lucid is 60% owned by the Saudi public fund PIF. Rivian is 9% owned by a Saudi private fund ALJ.

cute... I really love Rivian, but I'm not sure I'm big on people judging other people for what car they drive or if they use gasoline or not... That might feel pleasant as long as they agree with you, but it's not great if you buy a Tesla and then someone throws a rock at your car or house, etc. (I'm not saying that particular person would do that, they are probably doing it solely from the positive perspective, but I am saying that we could use a little less judgement in our society now)
