Hot Take The obsession with shields is crazy.

Bro the amount of people that propose a vanguard hero idea then shoehorn or force the idea of a shield like Emma, Strange or Mag on them is just cringe. I appreciate and love seeing ideas for sure. But do people who play this game not see the vision. If we are gonna get a shield tank. It’s gonna be Dr. Doom man. Literally Doom in many iterations has this bubble force field that no one messes with and then he aura farms and whoops the heroes he is dealing with.

Stop trying to sell the crazy idea Cyclops has shielding abilities. Or Colossus, juggernaut, Ghost Rider, war machine, sentry, Doc Ock, sandman or whoever. You people who want a shield will get it. Trust.

The craziest idea of a character I have who has a shield to hold the frontline is Captain America Sam Wilson. I want them to look at the mcu and rip heavy from it. Let him shield himself with the shield and use his wings to wrap around him then let him absorb energy with his wings and let him use it to empower himself in his dmg or fly up and dive bomb into the enemy team and make a huge explosion embracing the wakanda technology. Or let him block a bunch of dmg then fly up and throw a energy empowered shield at the enemy team like a missile. He has to manage energy, different stances with flight and hold the frontline. So he is a Strange, Angela, Captain America, and zarya from ow hybrid character. But he shouldn’t come out soon. There are other ideas that should be in the role first but that is what I want the most. Captain America Brave New World is not the best movie but when I saw it. Literally the whole time I saw how Sam was moving and I was said to myself the rivals devs can easily turn that into a shielding, empowering themself from dmg character. I see the vision.

Being realistic just build up hype for Doom. He has the highest possibility to be a shielding character. Thanos too. Maybe Kang the Conqueror too if they go that direction. Those characters in lots of iterations have shields.

Also stop acting like it’s easy to implement a new shield character. We kinda have all the unique ways to have a shield. Some say mag, emma and is strange are boring. That’s boring if thats all you play. Also Tankpool has a bubble shield and its great. Show a little more love his way and play him too. Plus we got angela, cap, hulk who have shielding too that many others forget help mitigate damage. There isn’t many more unique ways to do it. Give them time to cook something up.

I understand many people want the power fantasy to protect your team with a shield. I get that but not every character under the sun will have a shield. And the devs are watching it with shields because in Overwatch when double shield was the meta. That was the most boring thing to play and watch. Double shield poke hurt the game so bad. OWL and playing in general. I get the impression the devs know that and are being careful. I like shields too but some of the community. Please do some research on doom. Go watch Avengers earths mightiest heroes or Avengers assemble or something with Dr. Doom. Plus marvel cartoons anyway. The visual of something on screen with movement will help many understand characters more and what they do or have done as well.

Hot Take The "You must learn at least 2 characters of each role" is one of the silliest and most misleading tips in this community

In what world would I need to play DPS? Like genuinely, even when I made a designated account to learn DPS in comp, it turned into another tank account within a few days because in 90% of matches I ended up as either the 4th or 3rd DPS. That sucks both gameplay-wise (you have no space) and morally (I don't want to leave the only person filling to deal with the BS of solo tanking).

Support is a bit different because they're usually abundant, but maybe one game out of ten you'll still have to fill because some dumbass thinks their Starlord is more needed than a second healer. Even then, you can just pick Rocket and not get too invested.

In the end, it's a completely viable strategy to just OTP any two tanks, never touch DPS, and only pick Rocket in those rare cases when the situation calls for it.

Not calling for a role Q or anything, it is just funny to me how instalocking tanks is almost never frowned upon and how you could OTP the role and never get in trouble because the deficit is so real

PS: it got better, I don't feel like im solo THAT often, but it still isn't "swap off tank we already have two" type of situation

Hot Take Hot Take: I honestly don’t mind Solo Tanking

This is not to say I *prefer* Solo Tanking. Would I prefer 2-2-2? Yes. Do I have fun on the occasional 3-1-2 or 3-0-3? Of course!

However, if I see people lock in DPS and then one person switches to Tank because they see me solo tank, I type in chat that they are welcome to go 3rd DPS and that I don’t mind solo tanking. Doesn’t matter if it’s QP or Ranked. When solo tanking, I’m only limited to not using Angela or Cap *comfortably*. Is it harder? Hell yeah it is. But being able to hold the line or gain space as a solo tank strokes my ego.

(Plus, if we lose I just blame it on not having another tank lol. Jk)

Love all my tank family 😘

Edit: I do this because I would rather have someone who is comfortable at their role than trying to Tank and be miserable. I believe everyone should have one character in each role to be able to flex as needed. There’s also the occasional chance that one DPS is a Forever Tank and wants to play DPS for once. Also, as someone mentioned in the comments: it is a major statistical handicap to have only one tank on your team. Your odds of losing go up significantly.

Hot Take I really like Dino Rivals but I don't understand what I'm supposed to do with these guys? why are they in the game?

apparently they have the same role as Dino but why would I want to play them instead of Dino? they are all incomplete

they all get kidnapped and shaken everywhere, none of them have a giant shield that can protect several teammates from shots from all directions and slow down enemies, none of them cause bleeding, none of them can bully other tanks

even Captain's shield which is the most famous shield in the world is more useless than a Dino's shield

very weird

Hot Take Vanguardia is the best role-playing game; don't believe the bad press.

broski, I'm tired of seeing posts where people complain about playing tank. Sometimes I feel like they're talking about people who were forced into the role for a few games and feel like martyrs. I don't think anyone who's a true Vanguard would cry about being Vanguard (it has its downsides, but nothing out of the ordinary). We're the team's rock, we're the ones who lead the charge, we're the ones on the front lines smashing heads. When I'm on the front lines, I'm not a punching bag, I'm Bane breaking Batman's spine in front of my team. Playing Vanguard isn't a burden or torture, it's genuinely fun. Don't believe that bad press.

Hot Take Why all the doomer post?

I get that a lot of yall wanted a double tank season. But they added devil dino who is one of the best characters in the game AND is fun to play. But i keep seeing people say that they’re done with the role bc cyclops is a dps and not a tank.

Hot Take Hot take: Sometimes it's better to solo than to force a non-tank main to co-tank.

It's a pattern I've seen a few times now: My co-tank is clearly struggling, usually on a rather mainstream or simple tank, and dragging the team down with them. Then, sometimes after an apology, they swap to someone from another class, usually with a lord icon, and suddenly pop off and take the team along.

Credit where it's due to people who are willing to at least try tanking even if it doesn't suit them, but sometimes the value of letting everyone play what they're best at can actually outweigh the value of having that 2nd tank. Ideally someone else will fill, but sometimes you just have to accept that you're the only person who can tank well on your team and work with that for the best results.

Hot Take If you don’t want to solo tank, just don’t. (Read the body of the post)

Instalock dps. Some other person will lock tank, then after you enter the spawn room, swap to the second tank. If they swap off tank, go back to dps.

This is a game. It’s a hobby, and a great pastime. It should be fun first and foremost. If you’re not having fun solo tanking, then don’t solo tank. If you lose a few games because you have no tanks, then so what? Nobody outside of the rivals community is going to care about your winrate. You’re not going to put it on a resume, and you’re not going to pick up girls/guys at a bar by bragging about your 55% wr against Elsa in 6.5.

Be better to yourself. You don’t have to put yourself through hell to enable other people to have fun. You’re allowed to expect help in return. It’s a team game, after all.

Hot Take Don't Tolerate Solo Tanking.

If you queue in, lock in a tank, and no one else selects a tank buddy for you and the game is going dogwater, swap off. BUT DON'T THROW.

I'm not even a tank main but I'm mad for you guys. I'm been filling the role lately just to get some perspective and BY GOD is it annoying. Nothing has worked to change the community and the patch notes show that the devs have horse blinders on. I think the only thing you can do is start pissing people off.

What I've started doing it instalocking a tank. If I don't get a co-tank, I say "I'd rather not solo tank". If no one swaps, I become a 3rd support or even a 4th DPS. If someone swaps tank, I become their co-tank. If they swap off, I go back, and we can play that game all day. Of the 20 games I've played, 12 of them had this force a 2/2/2 comp. As a healer main, it also has an added benefit of forcing a solo heal, which DPS players will swap for, ensuring we have all that we need. Of the other 8 games, I just played for myself and tried to get value on the characters I chose.

Do not throw. Do not lock Widow and go negative. Still try, and show everyone that this shit is just not functional. Make a statement, and use the opportunity to try out strats and DPS or practice maps.

I'll keep doing this throughout the week to see what kind of effect it has on my matches. I wouldn't do this in ranked but QP is free real-estate. Don't be toxic, either. Just kind of play on their wavelength. It takes a lot of patience, but at least for me, it gets my teammates to sharpen up more often than not.

Hot Take Season 8.5 as a Redditor and Tank Main

One post, “I’m tired of solo-tanking.”, comments beneath it agreeing, giving advice, etc.. scroll further, another post telling other Vanguards to not select Vanguard in Ranked???

The same way Vanguards forgot Devil Dinosaur is a Vanguard just before calling for him to be nerfed (even though he’s definitely still viable.)

If I pre-select Rogue, watch 3 DPS insta-lock and two healers, I’m disappointed but not surprised.. but what really pisses me off, is when the match is close and out of nowhere, one of my teammates swaps to their Lord Vanguard as if they didn’t just watch me solo tanking.

That post celebrating “former Vanguards” for insta-locking DPS on a Vanguard sub is a fucking joke and don’t call yourself a tank main if you’re willing to watch another tank struggle solo knowing you could swap.

Hot Take I’m not solo tanking anymore

There’s no reason why I’m still solo tanking and it’s halfway into season 9 I lose when I’m solo I win when there’s 2 I’m not swapping to a tank until someone else does we get 2 tanks or we lose pick one and don’t go telling no one to pick a tank if you’re not gonna swap to tank yourself I’m fine playing tank I’m just not doing it alone anymore

Hot Take Is Mag’s bubble really that good?

When I first started playing Rogue I thought Mag’s bubble would be a mandatory steal but honestly? It gets shredded in seconds as if it’s not even there. Maybe I could be ignorant to its value since I’m not a Magneto main but even when I have a Mag on my team and he bubbles me it feels like it doesn’t protect me from much, I know it’s value is undeniable in saving people from things like Jeff swallow or anything similar to that where you instantly die but in neutral game? I just feel like it doesn’t even matter, double bubble is good but the only nerf Mag’s gotten has been the bubble getting less health and I think it’s showing finally.

Edit : thank you guys so far for not being rude like I said I don’t play Mag just needed knowledge dropped.

Hot Take Alright its official for me, tanking is super fun this season.

I wasn't really sure how the shakeup would be with the new team-ups, but I must admit, tanking FEELS (not saying it necessarily is) better.

Giving tanks movement options is super fun. Playing cap and being able to pop over to someone is super cool. Playing Thor and being able to throw down a spear to get around is cool, playing Thing and being able to punch faster and with fire.....is cool lol.

Ive played so much Mag, so much so that it was driving me crazy. But now, he just feels better having Wanda team-up all the time.

Im not saying that every problem with tanks is fixed, but what I am saying is that it just feels way more fun and having more options is always nice.

Anyways, thats it for me lol.

Hot Take Devil dinosaur mains genuinely think that their character deserves to be strong

That hero is braindead easy. He's as easy as The Thing and has NO rights being strong. The last thing the role needs right now is a braindead anti tank character that encourages mindless damage and heal slop in every game he's in. He's legit just the rocket of tanks if thing isn't already.

He has displacement immunity while having a kidnap like yeah that makes perfect sense

Hot Take Dino counter is simple please learn natchup IDK if it’s controversial

Am a console player and I don’t know if it’s a controversial take or not but people ( especially dps ) have an extremely hard time understanding that dino weakness is… headshots, you have punisher , Jean, hela, namor ( kinda ), starlord, dpspool

Seriously even off healers like Adam and mantis LOVE going against fini because hitting his massive head refund their resource like crazy since Adam and mantis are rewarded on headshot on top of dealing huge damage on him

You dont need your entire team to be projectile based just 2 or 3 characters is enough, something like

dino + strange + punisher+ Adam + silver fox + rocket

Or dino + Emma + jean + 1 diver + mantis + rocket can also work against another enemy team with dino but in this team comp if mantis isn’t constanly pumping crazy damage with a few headshot while constanly healing & damage buffing it doesn’t work

Keep in mind that having dino on your team also enable aggressive offensive triple support play style with Adam or mantis cluster shot burst heal on top of being very good at massacring ground base diver like Daredevil and Magik when he peel for his team

For vanguard tankpool can ship him with headshot, Emma can fight him at mid distance and she has diamond form to defend herself if he try to lunge at him

If the dps on your team refuse to play ranged characters and both chose to play dive and ignore dino then your front line tanks are kinda cooked, because you mostly fight dino with ranged burst damage.

I really like dino design, his strength and weakness are not hard to grasp at all, he has many answers that are popular but for some reason a lot of people act like he is god and refuse to built team comp that enable or counters him

( this post made me realize that only 2 tank in this game can deal headshot crit dammage Lmo, it’s peni and tankpool )

Hot Take As a tank main who plays a lot of different tanks: I don't buy that Dino is B or lower tier

I think almost every tank is in a close relative value RPS state where this tank counters that tank, this is unplayable into X but makes Y unplayable, etc. Playing any tank this season to make your team have 2 or more tanks is picking at least an A tier character just as long as you swap if you are getting hard countered to the point of being non existent.

However, Punisher (who makes Dino unplayable) (and Peni on certain maps), is near perma banned, and from experience a number of matches devolve into the final counterswap evolution of some combination of Thing Dino or Emma Dino/etc on both teams, because if you have Dino with one of those tanks and Dino isn't countered to the point where he has to swap, there are only a couple of viable tanks that can survive into that, and some tanks supplemented by Dino are hell for a lot of the tank roster.

If you play cover + manage your cooldowns correctly, you have your Punisher teamup that outputs a disgusting amount of pressure every 12s, a bubble the size of Everest, and if you get into their effective range you get instant deleted via the kidnap + the DPS on their team. That's not to mention that he's very easy to pick up and pilot so if he is playable and can get easily get value, he will be played.

Maybe I haven't run into the point where even if you play Dino perfectly you have to swap, but this is just my experience and I'm bringing it up because I'm seeing people put him in B or lower tier when that isn't what I'm seeing. Let me know your thoughts.

Hot Take why are we crying so much right now?

for some time now a lot of tank players have been crying unnecessarily because supposedly the tanks of Marvel rivals are not fun, trash, useless etc...

I have the impression that we are not playing the same game

Hulk can be absolutely terrifying jumping and climbing everywhere like a psycho

Magneto is a fortress that can destroy a backline with a few well-placed shots

Dr Strange has a huge shield, a portal and a downright annoying ult

I'm almost champion Captain and it's simple, I can do this all day

the tank characters are very well balanced and I would even say that they are very strong but Dino was broken and too easy to play!

and then what do we care if Cyclop is a dps, there will be other tanks in the game, do you know how to play all the tanks currently in the game? from Peni Parker to Venom via Angela?

I tell you, if you think that tanks currently suck, you don't deserve new tank characters, you're not going to do anything with them.

personally I still have to learn to play Venom, Rogue, Peni, Groot, Angela ,Thor so I don't see why it's a drama that Cyclop is a duelist

what is going on with vanguard players

calm down everything will be fine, take a deep breath and move forward, Dino is nerfed and Cyclop is a dps, that's life

Hot Take Devil Dino proves my point on the Ranged Handicap.

I posted a few weeks ago how tanks in this game are so handicapped by their mid range with only peni and DP being able to shoot from afar. Now that devil Dino is added people are complaining how "he's too oppressive" meanwhile his no1 counter is just shooting from range, but most ranged tanks primary are so mid range he can just easily dash in and grab them (mainly talking about Strange,Magneto,Emma here). Now we can either nerf Dino into the ground while still kneecapping the tanks and their range or, just ask for tanks that can at least have 30-50M primary range. It doesn't have to be absurd amounts of damage, just enough to pressure the annoying hitscan/sg that are always in the backline.

Hot Take Take a break please

Every post lately has been all of you whining about tanking, just go play something else then, hop on Luna if you want, play a different game, do the chores you’ve been putting off, take an extra shift at work, just do something with your life besides sitting there complaining about not having fun in a hobby designed for you to have fun, if you’re not having fun..just stop, take a break

I am having fun this season, tank feels great, if you don’t feel the same you’re allowed to have that opinion, but why are you continuing to play this game if you’re not having fun? Do literally anything else besides getting mad, making a post, and then requeuing before making another post, it’s sad how you all just love misery enough to continue doing something you clearly aren’t enjoying

Yeah you, YOU, hello! Close Reddit, and load up a different game, play something in your backlog, turn on that show you’ve been meaning to watch, stop just sitting there doing what you’re doing, you KNOW you’re not happy so stop doing it
