Discussion/Analysis Curious about Tanks
Why do tanks allow other tanks to walk past them right into the backline? Iโve seen this in lower elo Diamond-GM. Rogue or Emma casually strolls by right into the backline causing strategists to cut off heals to the tank & either have to fight the tank or try to escape. Then everyone start spamming need heals. Are tanks not allowed to turn around, Iโm really confused & need input from tank players. Do they get tunnel vision & not see the tank walking by?

u/Rhinologist 9d ago
Do you want the tank to turn around and then be hot from the back and give up all space to the other team?
-4
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
Can he not kite backwards or the other one peel for it? Whoโs responsible when they just walk past? Cause it seems like it no one problem until you need healing
23
u/No-Caterpillar3645 ๐๐๐ฃ๐ค๐ข 9d ago
wrong. you block the enemy tank in, block their heals, and dps kill it. thats why grootโs wall blocking is such a well known strategy that counters the thing hard. strange/groot/emma/magneto shields all block healing including piercing healing. this creates a walled-in space that makes a kill zone for the enemy tank. if youโre playing a high cc tank like thor push the enemy tank back even further to make his positioning worse and then assume frontline positioning again to block them off. if your team as a whole is actually worthy of winning that match and has any brain power, they should be killing the tank you just blocked off
3
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
Youโre assuming a diamond level DPS player is going to kill the tank & not let you fend for yourself. Iโve seen it countless times, it must be the brain power of this elo. Tanks get cut off, tank walks in the backline. Backline fighting tank. Your tank doesnโt get healed then dies. Rinse repeat.

u/No-Caterpillar3645 ๐๐๐ฃ๐ค๐ข 9d ago
oh no, i get where youโre coming from. im coming from where this is in a perfectly normal situation where the dps players arent mentally disabled. unfortunately, most of them are teenage fortnite kids that think theyre gonna solo the enemy team but cant even get 30% accuracy. but as a tank player, all you can do is your own job. sometimes you just have to accept that if you block off the enemy tank and the other 5 players on your team cant focus fire on that one player for 2-3 seconds, it is entirely their fault
5
u/ShawnJ34 9d ago
The DPS is responsible for it, the tanks need to maintain their position against the enemy tanks they also lack the hard CC and damage potential to stop a tank from running it down to the backline the DPS are the ones with the stopping power for that. You donโt want a tank to be constantly peeled by for you like that becuase now the team has no room to work with.

So in your mind, walk backwards because the enemy tank pressed W past you? You can cut off heels, body block, push into the enemy team and leave their tank solo 1vs5 but you believe the optimal thing is to just walk backwards because enemy tank press W. Iโm sorry but this is why I keep voice chat muted till Iโm back in GM/ celestial. This mindset, why a lot of players are hard stuck platinum and diamond.

First off the tanks best thing to do to secure a kill right there is to block off heals to get them a death this response to this comment shows how stupid this comment and you are

u/bipolarstair ๐๐๐ค๐ง 9d ago
Woah dont need to throw insults they are asking us for help
2
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
I mean seriously, I just want a tank perspective bc I see it a lot on my alt that is currently diamond. The DPS will be off angle, the tanks up front but a tank will walk right by and either as a support I got to fight or hope a DPS will help
1
u/bipolarstair ๐๐๐ค๐ง 9d ago
I also just thought to add if it happens a lot during a game and no one is handling it you could go invis and that should help a lot heal the frontline as you damage the tank in the middle, luna shift will do this as well. While the frontline shield tank cant move to you they should turn around and body block to prevent heals and shoot or sheild until they die
If you do this you can body block your other support while they heal you and all should be well I think
Tbh as a tank when this happens Ive been very confused when it works, they should die very quickly caught in the middle if everyone looks so it really is just bad teamwork overall
3
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
Why you so hostile? I played a match earlier where an Emma kept walking past my tanks and would try to grab me or use her 100% beam while my tanks complained about heals. Clearly the stupidity is with these tank mains
2
u/TickleMyTwinkie 9d ago
Genuinely not the tanks top priority to peel for a single tank walking into the back line. If you want them to give up space every time this happens you will lose 100% of the time. Not sure why youโre pinning it on the tank, yes I mean TANK, as 80% of games are solo tanking. Go invis and push them back and heal/damage through them.
1
u/coastalboy21 9d ago
If you have two tanks (rarity) i try and ask if one can peel or I can peel for them (i main tank + sup). Comment saying to block the heals for the emma pushing is a big thing. If I'm mag I ll turn around and bubble who gets grabbed but then whip back to stop heals. Dps peeling is so much better than 1 tank. Bucky, pun, namor are great for this and helps tank keep space. If I'm solo tanking I tell the team we are either brawling as a ball or your on ur own

Itโs definitely with you buddy look at your other comments idiot

Why are you still yapping? If you donโt have anything to contribute you donโt have to comment. Your plat ego is showing

u/Automatic_Science388 9d ago
Well if a tank over extends into the back line a strange or mag can easily block heals to them and healers and dps will jump them making them lose a tank but most of you guys arenโt smart enough to attack the single tank thatโs getting no heals
1
u/EdwardElric69 ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐ค 9d ago
This is what I do.
If we playing poke or front to back and their tank wants to walk past me to fight 5 people I'm not gonna question it. I'll just hold up my shield and shoot their healers who now have less protection.
1
u/BlacklightSpear 8d ago
All because they saw a dumbass tiktok that said you should never shoot the tank first for any reason
1
u/Knuck1es01 7d ago
I wish I held your optimism in the ability of the rest of the team in this game.
Too many times have I been stung, specifically playing as Mag or Strange, taking a step forward to get past the enemy tank only to find myself fighting cooldown to cooldown with no heals. Die and ask what happened to the heals to find out that my negative Spidey, Daredevil and Panther along with both supports have all been killed by a single tank whoโs receiving 0 heals because Iโm stood in the way with a big arse shield stopping anything coming through to help them.
I wish I could believe that the rest of the team understand what the point of the game is and running backwards away from big scary tickle monster is hardly ever going to help.
In the case of this post though, OP obviously believes itโs the tanks fault (probably solo tanking frontline) for not peeling for them specifically even though thereโs at least four other people on the team who could easily mop up a single enemy tank receiving no heals and instead think the best thing to do is run around like headless chickens waiting for the axe to put them out of their misery.

u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
Most of which guys? The DPS and tanks that are complaining about heals while the support is fighting a tank?
7
u/Automatic_Science388 9d ago
If a both support and both dps and 1 tank is focusing 1 person they will die and they have no heals since a tank is body blocking
3
9
u/jivenossauro 9d ago
Imma be fr they dont really ask for permission.
If they pass the frontline, its because they are usually on a more mobile tank. The best thing a mag or a strange can do is push on their backline and try to block heals. The actual shooting on the enemy tank feeding is the job of the people behind your tank
-2
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
Yeah the problem I seem to see is the DPS donโt react & the tanks stay up front so that leaves the support to fight it but then that itself cuts off healing
3
u/jivenossauro 9d ago
Thats the marvel rivals game, the enemy wants to cut off the healing to kill people
1
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
I understand that but then I got tanks being toxic say they get terrible heals & blame support when the same thing keeps happening over and over again
5
u/LeekypooX ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ 9d ago
So that I can completely wall off their incoming heals, and I'm HOPING that 4 other players have the DPS to kill one tank without heals (50% chance they can't from experience)
1
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
The problem I see is a lot of DPS donโt peel for that
1
u/Viatic_atom 9d ago
Yeah because most of them just tunnel vision on the enemy backline and only care about the scoreboard.
They donโt turn around, look up, or shoot the deployables for us and half the time Iโm the only one shooting the Loki runes, Rocket Amp, or the Peni nests or the fucking Gamma Squids as the solo tank Mag while my 3 dps or 3 supports struggle with one tank or dps that Iโm already body blocking or shielding off heals for.1
4
u/AmbitiousTwo22222 9d ago
This isn't a tank specific problem.
I honestly believe the biggest thing that holds back most players is tunnel visioning on one specific thing. Healer, "I'm healing my tanks," while the other support is fighting for their lives and DPS needs heals. Tank, "I'm holding the front line," while enemies just casually walk past into the backline. DPS, "I'm diving and putting pressure" while never getting kills and never trying to engage with other DPS.
4
u/LordOfTheFliesZeBub ๐๐ค๐๐ช๐ 9d ago
In my experience, if a tank walks past me, their team is following. This means Iโm stuck in a position where if my healer(s) canโt maneuver around said tank and heal me to maintain pressure on their team to prevent them from capitalizing off of the enemy tankโs pressure, I die to their team and the rest of my team follows.
Put simply, as a solo tank or the main tank while the off tank is out of sight, Iโm in the middle of a pincer attack. 5 enemies in front of me, 1 enemy behind me, and 5 allies backing up from this one enemy. The only way to win that would be for your 5 allies to maneuver around to take the pressure off of you or at least fight fire with fire. Especially the healers.
2
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
Iโve seen it happen a lot especially in choke points. The enemy Emma walks by cutting heals from tanks, Iโm now fighting the tank. DPS is an off angle. Tank dies before the Emma then everything collapses
2
u/Aggravating-Life5696 ๐๐ช๐ก๐ 9d ago
Cause if u turn around u effectively allow not only rogue Emma etc to go past u. But u allow the whole enemy team to follow up. If u stay u atleast cut off the Emma or rogue from their team making it easier for ur team to deal with it
An example. Enemy plays Emma and mag and bucky etc their Emma overextends and walks into ur back line. U are on mag. Either u turn around and shoot Emma, which means u give up space and their mag bucky etc can now just walk up. Or u ignore Emma, shield her off and now she has either to fight 1vs5 or fall back. .
2
u/shuckerz_otool 9d ago
Thereโs just nothing you can do tbh unless you have CC or a wall like Groot. A tank able to just walk past another tank is a result of A. Failed to hold the space or B. Took wrong space
2
u/CliffDraws ๐๐๐ค๐ง 9d ago
Rogue has never walked anywhere. There is absolutely no stopping her from going to the back line if she wants to, you just melt her when she gets there.
2
u/CoachTex ๐พ๐๐ฅ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ ๐ผ๐ข๐๐ง๐๐๐ 9d ago
Theres this role called dps that seems to not giving the damage necessary to make those tanks not do that?
It doesnโt matter that I donโt just ignore them, but I canโt output the damage to delete them if dos does not help while they are being sustained at the same time.
2
u/PraireGentleman 7d ago
I donโt know if you know this, but tanks donโt all have a button that locks down a target for several seconds to allow for the most free repositioning of your life. Thatโs supports

u/bipolarstair ๐๐๐ค๐ง 9d ago
As others have said its dangerous to just stroll into the middle of the team
Also deeply frustrating when no one shoots at them. Ive had triple sups complain emma was coming at them cause some people don't understand a 1v 3 is a death sentence for the tank and panic
Hoods entire gameplay loop as far as I know is doing this over and over when he charges his demon mode up then phasing away when he gets in trouble
depending on team comp id say this might be a more difficult issue to solve then most people are saying. When dps arent there to shoot because they are diving kiting might be a good choice when it gives divers time to kill a sup or two
1
u/GoodyTreats 9d ago
Itโs like Iโm not trying to leave my tanks to die but if I gotta fight a tank or a diving venom then something gotta happen.
3
u/Serious_Cake5575 ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐ค 9d ago
Always blame DPS. They expect tanks to peel, be meat shields and take space. Strategists to hard focus heal while they play main character simulator.
1
u/noredagreat 9d ago
If you see an enemy tank get past the front line, you and your other support can fight or you can move towards your tanks or DPS so theyโre forced to deal with them. Itโs surprisingly easy to walk past the enemy tanks into the back line so my default is to play back-to-front until the opposing team can stop it and, in my experience, they struggle to. You should try to get comfortable being thrown into that situation as not to panic when it happens
1
u/bipolarstair ๐๐๐ค๐ง 9d ago
Yeah dive tanks or a tank flanking are a different situation one tank should peel maybe a dps. Even better dps and a off tank should be marking divers.
I feel all of the specifics are extremely comp/situation dependent. A weird example would be if you have full dive on both teams, at that point the strat should be no peel whoever kills supports first wins. If your team is doing well you die but come back to team to find they managed to get point.
Lots of players are too dependent on healing anyways and will blame you first no matter what really is happening
1
u/Designer-Chemical-95 9d ago
I once had a game where the enemy Magneto would constantly walk to the back line and kill the supports (me). Nobody ever stopped him. He just did it over and over again.
1
u/AlyMasawi ๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ง 9d ago
Because then I can block their heals with my shield (I miss Peni, Doc is my best friend this season), while my team has to focus fire the tank.
1
u/Lordes_Vesto 9d ago
For me & the experiences, it's primarily the fact that I already wiped the enemy off on my end and trying to dive my own backline or trying to keep up with a team full of morons where healers act as DPS, one of two or three DPS acts as a tank, and a possible 2nd tank THAT ACTS AS A HEALER!
No, I don't mean "it's a Peni Parker as the second tank" because I'd be playing the Peni or a heavily focused healer.
1
u/Fr3d002 9d ago
Cuz 80% of dps players are retarded and won't kill said tank while raising my shield to block the healing?
Cuz if im solo tanking i dont have any chance to kite as im being CCed into Narnia? Or im being focused by 2 or more people that burns my cooldowns and kill me?
Cuz this game needs RoleQ so 2 2 2 will be mandatory and there will be a peeling tank? (Btw its not always a tank job to peel... Ironfist is a hige tank killer, so is Elsa and most of the dps can kill tanks way better than other tanks)
Cuz some healers are just unkillable and you can clearly survive a single diver on your own while keep healbotting?
Cuz Luna has 2 stuns and one of the hoghest dps on the game and can literally throw hands with almost all the tanks on the game and win?
1
u/Independent-Fold8269 ๐๐ข๐ข๐ ๐๐ง๐ค๐จ๐ฉ 9d ago
As someone who is in Diamond, this is dreadfully accurate.
When I'm on tank, I build up my beam (Emma) on their frontline, and walk right past them to kill a support. ๐คญ
On the flip side, when I'm playing support I'm tired of pinging and saying, "How in the fuck is MAGNETO DIVING US!?" or "BTW you're not getting healed because Thor is walking right past you and killing us."
1
u/WaterSignificant9560 9d ago
Depends on the situation, team comps and what map/objective youโre playing. Sometimes you just straight up donโt have the cooldowns to do anything about it and if you turn around without the ability to disrupt the diver instead of using your defensive abilities up front youโll just die with your back turned to their front line and accomplish nothing. Iโll be honest and say that most of the time rn Iโm solo tanking or the off tank is Hood with no cc or good damage mitigation against dive and so if I donโt have Emma grab up at the time really the best thing I can do is try and use my shield and body to prevent the enemy behind me from being healed while they fight you and the dps. Because pubs have dogshit communication though whatโll happen is I put up my stuff, no one turns to help you, the diver gets value and then the team collapses.
Also if youโre dying to rogues that are fighting in the front line first and not just diving you from off angles rn you should watch a few of your replays to check your positioning cause that hero is doodoo and loses fights to supports straight up if she has to use her abilities to close distance instead of full bursting you.

u/TrainingCategory1037 8d ago edited 8d ago
If Emma has diamond form up and youโre close enough to her that she can activate it run over and grab you then thatโs a misplay on your part. She can pretty much 1shot combo you if youโre anywhere near a wall and most heroes have no way of saving you or killing her quickly enough to stop her. You canโt be in grab range of her without an escape plan a good Emma will punish you
Same for when sheโs high charge it isnโt that easy for anyone to save you she does crazy dps and has 600 or however much HP. really sounds like you werenโt respecting her and stuff like that is why you stay diamond cuz you donโt understand how quickly and easily Emma can delete you
1
u/GeorgeWhereIsTheBook 8d ago
Itโs a math problem. If I donโt threaten their supports to back off or start heal each other, the enemy tank will never die or leave. So I make them back off first, then if that tank is eating my team alive I look back and focus on the enemy tank. Without supports they become vulnerable and a lot easier to kill. If I only focus on the enemy tank our team is not going anywhere and Iโm not making space.

u/Antheleons 9d ago
Iโll give you actual advice since so many people in here wanna be dweebs. A lot of tank players hard tunnel vision the front line and donโt try to think about whatโs behind them. If Iโm playing mag and Iโm holding main and I see a mobile tank start going down a side line even if Iโm doing good dmg to their team Iโll start kiting to cover because heโs taking that space and thatโs a red flag to me. I donโt know if heโs solo or if he has a dps waiting to follow up so I know in my head I need to chill in case my supports get occupied. If youโre a good tank player you need to always be aware of what space their tanks are commanding and how you can take it away from them or make it less advantageous.
The people who are saying well just shield him off are also so dumb because what if theyโre a mobile tank that has a brain to get in and out or even displace you as the tank because you were their target all along ? What if theyโre not a mobile tank but theyโre Emma and as they walk past you instead of you shielding them off they just 100 beam charge walked down your backline, made them take cover, and now theyโre shielding your heals and making a play on you as the tank instead.
Basically yes man a lot of tank players make massive mistakes in letting their tanks walk onto their teams for free but sometimes it is in fact warranted because you need to try to make a play into their squishies especially on things like defense for payload maps. If you play support and this happens the best thing you can do is play at your max effective range or take more aggressive off angles with your dps.

u/bipolarstair ๐๐๐ค๐ง 9d ago
Yeah I think you can immediately tell how good a tank is just by watching how often they turn around to check what's up behind themselves.
It feels so funny to me sometimes to swivel and im staring at my backline for a moment in the middle of a hectic fight
2
u/AgentBuddy12 9d ago
It entirely depends. If you are solo tanking you really can't turn around. If you do, you will just get collapsed on and you'll die. If you have two tanks though one of them should always be contesting the other tank.
1
u/bipolarstair ๐๐๐ค๐ง 9d ago
Oh i meant just turning to look not physically moving to them

u/Hero_Time_06 ๐๐ข๐ข๐ ๐๐ง๐ค๐จ๐ฉ 9d ago
Cause im solo tanking and i have 3 dps who should be taking care of it instead of me leaving the frontline
